Is there anyone out there?

The void glittered with millions of white specks. Each blinking in and out of existence beyond the world's atmosphere. Magnificent waves of color streaked across the spaces between, painting their splendid masterpiece. Many shades of color clashed against one another in a grand canvas of, green, purple, orange and every other color out there. It was one of the most decorated night skies to ever exist, and Twilight was absorbing every detail. The ever studious unicorn,  lounged upon her side on the balcony. One eye was glued to a telescope as she gazed at the stars above, only stopping to jot down some notes.

Twilight had always held a passion for astronomy. It always brought a small smile to her face to mark out the constellations and watch as they worked their way across the night sky. Although books were by far her favorite of favorites, astronomy was a close second that was special to her. It just... felt right. She rationalized that her cutie mark held another meaning besides magic. Twilight was inclined to agree with that belief. After all it was a small collection of stars.

There was always something that fascinated her about the vast beyond. Each Celestial body contained countless stars and each stars could have any number of planets in it's orbit, each planet could have many moons and best of all, each planet could have life. Twilight would be the first to admit that the chance was small, but with the sheer astronomical amount of bodies out there it would be foolish to dismiss the possibility. She had always found the stars alluring for that very possibility. To be able to contact a completely different race. To learn how they solved their problems and issues. Each new race would provide a new outlook on life and the workings of the universe.

It was saddening that there was an equal large possibility it would not happen in her life time.

Twilight breathed a heavy sigh at the thought. Bringing her head back, she parted from the telescope. Without the aid of it's optical lens she looked up above her. Even from without them it was a striking scene to behold from afar as it was from up close. A small smile graced her face as she craned her head around, being sure to see it in all it's glory. She starred in wonder as time past. Seconds became minutes and minutes turned into hours. She never tired of it, not for a moment. It would just so happen that her patience would be rewarded with a single shooting star.

Her eyes shot wide for just a moment as it quickly burned in the atmosphere. Her surprised disappeared as quickly as it burned, and was replaced with a calm smile. Slowly she closed her eyes. and mumbled some words to herself.

It had been a long and fruitful night of stargazing for Twilight. She had found three new galaxies and sent a letter to Luna on her discovery, who she would leave the naming to. She never had a sense for such a thing and right now she was tried and ready for bed.

With a yawn she entered her home and magically closed the balcony doors.
