One bright and sunny day in Equestria, in the outskirts of Ponyville, Derpy Hooves was taking her morning stroll around the town. Derpy loved the sight of Ponyville, she loved it almost as much as she loved muffins from Sugar Cube Corner. Derpy had one eye on Ponyville and one eye on the road where she was walking. She walked this route round town every morning; even a pony like her could notice something strange.
Like every morning, Derpy was always smiling during her morning walk before she went to collect the mail to be delivered all around town. It was the same as always. One eye on the town and one eye on the road. But on that day, Derpy saw something on the dirt road. She looked at it very closely. It was small, soft and very fragile, not to be handled by Derpy’s clumsy hooves. She read the label on the wrapper,
“T-Twink-ie.” Derpy uttered as she struggled to read what the wrapper said on its side.
She left it on the ground as she thought it might belong to somepony who might have lost it. She would come back to investigate it tomorrow if it was still there. She continued her day and flew off to deliver Ponyville’s mail.
The next day, Derpy done her regular things, later in the morning, it came to her regular walk down her regular route. This time she didn’t have one of her eyes on Ponyville, she had both on the road, eager to see if the Twinkie was still in the middle of the road. She reached the point where she found the small object before and it was still there, in the centre of the road, untouched. Derpy started to think what to do. If it belongs to somepony, they might be worried sick that they have lost it.
“I know! I can go put up some flyers around town to get everypony’s attention, and hopefully come collect it, and if somepony does come collect it, they will have to give me a reward for finding it, an award of one hundred chocolate chip muffins!” Derpy thought to herself as her devious mind thought about nothing but gaining free muffins.
Derpy picked the small, fragile object up and took it to her house to put in her refrigerator to keep it cool. She got home, put it into the refrigerator and grabbed some paper and some crayons to make the flyers with. She had made around two hundred flyers in total. They all read…
Derpy immediately started posting flyers all around Ponyville. On trees, in mail boxes, everywhere.
“If no pony comes to me about the Twinkie in two weeks, I can keep it to myself!” Derpy smiled.
Derpy continued through her days of her regular, morning walk to posting Ponyville’s mail and every day she was excited and hoping that somepony will come for the Twinkie so she could get one hundred muffins in return.
The two weeks past and no pony came to claim their lost property. Derpy was upset that no pony came to claim their property because she has now lost out on one hundred muffins that she didn’t have to pay for. She had lost her chance for her dream to come true. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Derpy opened it to see Lyra Heartstrings standing in the doorway with a big grin.
“Hello Derpy, has anyone claimed the Twinkie yet?” Lyra asked.
“No, I own it now though because no pony claimed it during the two weeks.” Derpy explained.
“Well, since you own it now, I would like to do a trade with you.” Lyra replied.
Derpy’s mind sprung to life as she realised that this was another chance to get one hundred muffins, this was her chance for her dream to come true.
“Derpy, that Twinkie is a cake, a cake from the world where humans come from.” Lyra explained.
“How many times do we need to tell you, Lyra? Humans don’t exist!” Derpy screamed.
“Yes they do! That cake is from the human world and I want it for my human collection!” Lyra explained as she looked at Derpy with a creepy smile.
Derpy looked at Lyra and was very creped out and confused. I mean, come on, a human collection?
“You weren’t popular as a filly, were you?” Derpy asked.
“No, but never mind that, let’s talk about the trade. How much do you want for the Twinkie?” Lyra asked.
“One hundred muffins!” Derpy smiled.
“What? I can’t afford that!” Lyra screamed.
“Ok, I’ll make the trade a bit cheaper, ninety nine muffins.” Derpy replied.
“No please, make it even cheaper, I can’t afford that, please I beg you. I need that Twinkie!” Lyra screamed as she begged on her hooves.
“No deal, sorry Lyra!” Derpy replied as she shut the door on Lyra.
“No! My Twinkie!” Lyra cried, shaking on the ground.
You could see Lyra’s tears of depression coming under the doorway.
“Ew! I’m going to put a towel to but under that doorway.” Derpy thought to herself.
She walked over to the bathroom and grabbed a towel to put under the doorway where Lyra’s tears were coming through. Her stomach grumbled, she was hungry. She walked over to her refrigerator and picked up the Twinkie.
“I hope this is as good as one hundred muffins, it should be because Lyra is still grovelling outside because I didn’t give it to her.” Derpy thought to herself.
Derpy took it out of the wrapper and put it onto a small plate. She looked right at it, completely focused. She sniffed the smell of the creamy Twinkie so much that it almost came flying into her muzzle. She took her first bite and her eyes lit up and her taste buds exploded with joy.
“Dear Celestia, this is amazi-“ Derpy said as she started to choke on the Twinkie. She fell to the floor with a huge bang. Lyra heard it from outside.
“Derpy? Are you ok? DERPY!” Lyra shouted as she Sparta kicked the door down to see Derpy paralyzed on the floor…
A few hours later, Derpy woke up in a hospital bed, still a bit dizzy, but recovering.
“W-What happened?” Derpy asked.
“Ah, Derpy! You’re awake! You ate an out of date Twinkie and choked on it.” The Doctor explained.
“So?” Derpy asked, still wondering what was so bad about it.
“Derpy, what Twinkie was months old and it spent most of its time outside on the ground. If it wasn’t for this kind mare you would of never of made it here alive.” The Doctor explained as he pointed at Lyra, sitting in the corner of the room.
“Is she going to be ok?” Lyra asked.
“Yes, she will recover in no time, you can take her back home now, just keep her away from foods from different worlds.” The Doctor explained.
“Thank you, Doctor.” Derpy replied.
Lyra and Derpy walked out of the hospital.
“Thank you, Lyra, how can I replay you for saving my life?” Derpy asked.
“If you don’t mind, I would like the rest of the Twinkie for my collection.” Lyra laughed.
“Ok Lyra, you can have it!” Derpy replied.
