Previous ChapterHey sorry for not updating this story sooner. I was waiting on my editor, but got tiered of waiting so here's the chapter. I'm sorry for the grammar and spelling errors. I will update this when it gets edited but if you would like to help let me know.
A stallion stood before the gates of sweet apple acres fully aware of what lay beyond I; wishing that he could just walk away, but knew that he couldn’t so instead he just brought another cigarette to his mouth and inhaled the smoke as he lit it. The cigarette added age to his face, but not as much as all the sleepless nights or stress this job brought him and with that thought he exhaled the smoke from his lungs and put on his stone exterior on, as he walk through the gates into the nightmare that waited for him on the other side.
“Hey what do you think you’re doing here?” yelled a large guard glad in golden armour that clanged together as he made his way over to the stallion. “No civilians or reports allowed, so I suggest you turn right around and go back to whatever rock you crawled out from under.” The guard was about an inch away from the stallions face and his breath smelled worse than some of the corpses he’s dealt with.
The stallion just calmly took his cigarette out of his mouth and exhaled smoke into the guard’s face. “I suggest a weekend solider like you should watch their tone when talk to a FBI agent as if he were some slug that crawled out from under a rock.”
The guard only let out a huff as he looked at the stallion and the fact that he was dresses in a wrinkled shirt with stained jeans and an unkept mane and facial hair. “ Yeah like I’m going to believe that you’re a FBI agent you sh-“ The guard was caught off as a FBI badge that read agent Fitly Carter being shoved into his face.
“Now while you’re shutting your mouth and keeping it shut you can point me in the direction of a Lieutenant Blake,” calmly stated Fitly as he placed his cigarette back into his mouth. The guard just simply pointed in the direction pasted the barn towards the orchard.
Fitly just left guard to feel like their balls had just fallen off and just walked towards the orchard. He hated dealing with guards and other police forces. Most were just filled with weekend worriers, or small stallions trying to act big. He just let out a sigh as he exhaled more smoke. He hated days like this, because they made things seem so calm and peaceful. A pony could look at the cerulean blue sky and feel the warm air that blew through the blossoming apple trees and think that there think of beauty and love not knowing what lay beneath the surface. Fitly pushed those thoughts out of his head as he came to his destination; before him was a taped off area with guards presumably trying to gather evidence and a clean cut stallion in a sharp outfit giving out orders in a course, but strong voice.
“Hey are you Lieutenant Blake?” yelled Fitly which took many of the guards by surprise. He could see that may have been the best decision, as he could see the anger seething from who he presumed was Blake.
“Who the fuck is this? I said I didn’t want any reporter’s within a hundred meters of here. Get him out of here!” yelled the stallion as he waved his arm towards Fitly, as if he were trying to obliterate him with his anger.
Fitly just let out a tiered sigh as he dropped his cigarette to the ground. “I’m Fitly Carter FBI and if we could I’d like to get these formalities out of the way so I can get to work.” Fitly stepped under the police tape and made his way over to the Stallion he was now positive to be Blake. “I’m assuming you’re Blake and I’m hoping just as much as much as you are that we don’t have to work together any more than we have to.”
“Yeah I’m Blake and if you don’t mind telling me why you’re here? If I remember correctly we never asked for the FBI’s help, so maybe you should just go back to Canterlot. Besides you don’t look like any FBI agent I’ve seen before,” replied Blake as he made sure to get as close as possible to Fitly’s face like he knew his breath smelled of garlic and onions.
“Well when you’re out solving the most brutal crime and not behind a desk pushing pencils it changes how one looks and when an element of harmony is brutally murdered and she’s friends with two princesses and close acquaintances with another princess and prince/ former captain of the royal guard word gets around pretty fast. I was just to make sure you and your team gets this case solved before it gets out of hand,” replied Fitly in a tone that left no doubt in Blake’s mind that he wasn’t intimidated.
“So does this mean that that this investigation is now under FBI derestriction, or are you just here for the fresh air?”
“Officially this is still your case. I’m just here to make sure you get this case solved fast and by the looks of it I won’t have much time to enjoy the fresh air, because it looks like you need all the help you can get,” smirked Fitly as he looked past Blake at the mutilated corpses of Applejack. Her body was stripped naked and tied to a blossoming apple tree, but worse than that was the fact that her limbs were cut off and she was disembowelled with apples stuffed into the spot where her guts use to be.
“I’ll be honest with you I’ve never dealt with anything like this before. I mean yeah I’ve investigated murders, but they’re nothing compared to this,” sighed Blake as his line of sight fallowed Fitly’s to the mangled corpse.
“Yeah you got one of those poetic artistic types on your hands.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well look at what the killer did to her body,” replied Fitly as he gestured to the body. “She’s a farmer and by cutting off her limbs the killer took away the means by which she made a living; also he stuffed her body like a cornucopia with literally the fruits of her labour.”
“Great we got ourselves a killer with a sense of irony,” sarcastically spat Blake. “How exactly does that help us?”
“It allows me to make a profile of the killer, and try to get inside their head to figure out how they think and what their next move might be,” calmly stated Fitly as if he were talking to a child. “So what have your men found so far?”
“Well so far we have a series of shoe prints that we’re still in the process of documenting, but from the look of it we got one set coming from the barn that we presume to be the victims and another set of larger shoe prints that seem to fallow the victim’s here and back to the barn, so either the killer was fallowing her or more likely she knew the killer. By the amount of blood on the ground it’s safe to assume this is where the murder and mutilation of the corpse took place here. The killer obviously came prepared and from the gun shot we can assume he’s armed and dangerous. That’s what we’ve got so far, but we’re still looking and waiting on the coroner before we start looking over the body in greater detail.”
“Why is she clean?” asked Fitly earning a questioning look from Blake. “Look at her body she’s been shot shoot and mutilated and the ground is covered in blood, but she’s completely clean. The killer most have washed her body after he tied her to the tree. When the coroner arrives tell them to check the body for sexual assault and seamen, because the killer most likely had sex with her body. Also have your men bring out search dogs because he took her limbs with him and seeing as there does not appear to be a blood trail he must have kept them wrapped or contained in something along with the gut as well.”
Blake just looked at Fitly with a blank, but hard stare. “I really hope your wrong, because if you’re not that means we’re not just looking at some sick murder but something far worse.”
“Yeah I know. Is the family here I would like to ask them a few questions.”
“They’re home, but my men already took their statements…..”Replied Blake but from the look on Fitly’s he could tell that didn’t matter. “But if you want to talk to them be my guest. They should still be in the house.”
Fitly just nodded as he stepped under the police tape while placing another cigarette in his mouth, “after I talk to the family I’ll start on the killers physiological profile and tomorrow I’d like all the evidence your team has collected on the desk you’ll setup for me at the police station, so I can review it and add it to my profile before presenting it.” Blake only mumbled something under his breath as Fitly walked away lighting his cigarette.
Fitly was soon outside the large barn/house that was the home the farms owners, but it was the large stallion on the porch that caught his eye. He had crimson fir and an orange mane that matched the setting sun. He certainly looked like he was a farmer with his large build that was of a man in his prime, but would eventually be worn away by hard work. “Excuse me sir are you a family member of the victim?” I’m FBI agent Fitly carter and I would like to ask you and your family some questions.”
“She has a name,” grumbled the stallion in a low, but yet still powerful voice. “And yes I’m her older brother Macintosh, but just call me Big Mac.”
“Yes well Big Mac I’d like to ask you and your family some questions about the vict…. I mean your sister Applejack.”
“Well we’ve already gave our statements to the guards and that Blake fellow. Besides Grany’s inside trying to put Applebloom to sleep and I really don’t feel like putting them through all that again,” replied Big Mac as he came down from the porch towering over Fitly.
“Well perhaps you can help be by answering a question for me than.” Big Mac just gave him a look letting Fitly know to continue. “Apples were used in your sister’s murder, but I know apples are out of season and most place don’t have them in stock right or if they do they’re a bit mushy. The ones at the crime scene however were fresh and ripe. I wonder if you know where one could get apples that fresh this time of season.”
Big Mac just simply just raised a questioning eyebrow at Fitly’s question. “Well if someone had apples that fresh more than likely they came from this farm. We’re the only far that’s able to preserve our apples and keep them fresh that long out of season.”
“How do you keep your apples preserved for so long and where someone would most like likely be able to get your farms apples, because I assume that it would be the major cities that would be paying the top dollar for fresh apples.”
“You are right most of our stock is shipped to the larger cities this time of year, but if we always keep some of the stock here to be able to sell in town. So either they bought them in another city or they bought them in town, because the only other spot would be here on the farm, but we keep the store room under lock and key and I had the key for it today since I was taking apples into town to sell today.”
“I’ll have to get a statement from you of all the costumers you had today and is there anyone else that has excess to the farms store room or knows where it is?”
“No only me and Applejack have a key for it and the location for the store room isn’t a secrete so it would be too hard for somepony to find it.”
“You mind if I take a look at your store room just to see if the apples came from there?” Big make just simply nodded and led the way to the store room that was on the other side of the barn.
“I would like to know how these apples were used in my sister’s murder,” asked Big Mac in a tone that wasn’t demanding an answer, but more pleading for one.
“I don’t think you want to know.”
“Look I don’t know what happened, but I do know that it was Applebloom that found AJ’s body and now she won’t talk to anyone about what happened. I want to know what she saw,” Calmly stated the stallion as he stared at Fitly with smoldering emerald eyes.
“I’m sorry that your sister had to see her sister like that, but I don’t wish to be the one that stains your memory of her because now that she’s gone it’s that memory of her that will keep her alive and by ruining that memory I’ll ruin her,” calmly stated Fitly hoping that Big Mac would drop the subject.
Big Mac just let out a long sigh as he finally let his stone faced exterior give way to a look of not pain, but something worse as if he were a bird with its wings cut off. “Why would somepony do this to her? She was a good pony I mean she could be as stubborn as a mule, but she never had any enemies. I just…..we had an argument before I left and now she’s gone and I’ll never get to say I’m sorry or that I love her.”
Fitly just extended his hand towards the large stallion offering him a cigarette; while giving him a look of understanding but not clarity. Big Mac just gave a sigh and took the cigarette and lit it. Fitly could see the large stallions body relax slightly as inhaled the smoke. “Are these what help you relax when you come home from work?” asked Big Mac as he exhaled.
“This job has led me to the ends of many cigarettes and left me drowning at the bottom of many bottles, but it doesn’t really make a difference because there is no going home from this job,” stated Filty as he let his cigarette fall to the ground and stepping on it.
“Doe it ever help?”
“No,” was all Fitly said as him and Big Mac arrived at the large wooden door built of solid oak. Fitly bent over to examine the door and noticed the lock was busted which meant the killer more than likely got the apples from here and if any pony knew about the store it really didn’t narrow the list of suspects down any. Other than the lock and what appeared to be a few shoe prints that seemed similar to the ones near Applejacks body nothing else was really off. Fitly grasped the doors handle and found himself straining a bit to lift the solid door, but managed to letting it fall to the ground with a solid thud before slowly making his way down the stairs into what seemed like a dark abyss below. As Fitly made it to the bottom of the stairs and reached out for the light switch a familiar smell filled his nostrils and as soon as he flipped the switch he regretted it. What lay before him looked like an apple stand crashed into a butcher’s shop. The store had been painted a deeper shade of crimson with blood and guts that lay hung out like laundry; with the pulp and flesh of crunched apples mixed in. “Big Mac Go find Lieutenant Blake and tell him to get over hear now,” yelled Fitly as he realized today was going to be longer than he thought.
