Quick Silver: The Target
Quick Silver: The Target, Chapter 1~The Ember
Load Full StoryIt was dark, Quick looked up. He was at an entrance of an old rundown sugar mill. Unsure of where he was he looked around. The street was empty with only a slight sound of wind and the occasional howl of a dog. Quick recognised the street, he was in the capital of Contar just meters away from where the cobblestone wal ended. He walked over to the worn down wall and saw the ports beneath it. He had been here many times but there had never been a mill here, usually just a wall with a few barrels or crates loaded up agenst it. Quick turned around to face the mill again and decided to take the risk and enter.
His first impression of the mill was that it was just a run down and abandoned heap of wood, but when he had walked inside he got saw that the old mill had been used recently... but not for making sugar. The ceiling of the mill reached high into the sky. There were platforms as well, each one with their own pine fence and roped dangling from them here and there. *Clink*, Quick looked up, he was now looking up at a dozen or so cages... they hadn't been there when he last looked up. One of them was dangling from side to side, clinking agenst the others. Quick took another passe over to what looked like a pile of hay, he didn't feel like exploring and he was half unconscious anyway... he just wanted to sleep. He the heard another clink but this time it wasn't coming from one of the cages, instead he looked over at a small candle attached to the wall that was just above the hey. It was coming loose.
Quick had no reaction, he just watched the candle float over the hay aimlessly. His eyes widened as it just... fell, like gravity had just re captured its grip. The hey caught fire quickly and it was only then that Quick realised the mill was made out of wood. He stood there in shock for 30 seconds as the fire climbed the walls to the ceiling. "If the fire catches to the wooden frames that carry the cages", thought Quick... "Im dead".
Quick ran for the entrance that he had come through. He ran out to the street that he had found himself and looked back... there was nothing there but a stone wall and a few crates laying agenst it. Traumatized he stood there in shock until he heard footsteps coming from his left. He looked over and saw a large stallion trotting towards him. The stallion was wearing a large robe with a hood, he had something slung to the right of his body. After they where about 2 meters apart from each other the stallion reared up on his hind legs and pushed up, using his wings to stay stable in the air he took out the object that was slung over his body... it was a sword. Quick had no time to retaliate, he just stood there as the cloaked figure pounced on him. He stabbed Quick cleanly through the chest. Then turned around and walked off like nothing had happened. Quick looked down at his chest and saw that the wound was glowing a bright red. Like an ember...
Quick awoke from his sleep, he was late...
