Rainbow walked through the damp cave, keeping her knees rigid. Walking over stones and pieces of trash that had obviously been tossed around by spelunkers and outlaws for decades. She suddenly trembled. Her tunnel vision set in and she sat on the stone cold ground. "I wonder how mama treated her hypoglycemia.." she thought, and took out a cracker from her bag. She had hoped that the tunnel vision plaguing her was a laughable case of blood sugar gone awry, hopefully not diabetes of course. The herbs on the cracker stung her throat and she forced her food down like sand. "Sand *cough*... Maybe I could travel to the beach with Pinkie Pie after this!" she mumbled and a forced smile overcame her frown. Her dimples depressed heavily. Her heart was beating slower and slower, and she panicked. "Oh no, what, a heart attack now!?" she wailed and laid her head against the stone wall behind her. But her heart did not fail. It only became faster as she read the inscriptions across the cave, dead center of the wall. She read them for maybe a minute or two. Well, it at least seemed like a few minutes. A gritty voice broke the silence. The voice was most obviously forced from the mouth of some raspy middle-aged stallion. Her body trembled helplessly with the inflection of the man's voice.
"Celestia has sent you, young girl?"
"Yes, what's it to you, creep?" she said sternly, looking around through the warm lantern light.
"Leprosy runs through the family. Don't look for me, you'll only see a mask. Masks always creeped me out, so I take it off when I don't have visitors." Rainbow Dash looked around the edge of the rock wall she laid against. Adrenaline pierced her body from head to hoof. A dirtied white mask rested over the face of some brown and orange stallion. He was majorly atrophied. Cuts were nestled under patches of mussy hair.
"Be my therapist. I'll tell you some junk that you need to know and you'll learn from it. Just be decent and not some preppy pony wannabe like I usually get down here, "Oohh, I'm just on vacation" or whatnot. It's a cave, princess, not the spa where Rarity and Fluttershy hang out."
"HOW did you know that Rarity and Fluttershy hang out at a spa!?" Rainbow pointed at him, beckoning him to answer.
"Heh, I've seen every episode, princess!" Rainbow paused. What a curious comment for somepony to make.
"You see, history repeats itself. If we're made to be like Rarity or Fluttershy, we'll act like them respectively." He said with a cocky grin.
"You are a weird dude! Like, you seriously think that my friends were made a certain way? Shut up, and stop calling me princess, seriously!"
"Lemme tell ya girl. Thousands of years ago, the network of lit-orb predicted everything. Don't ask, but it predicted everything. And now, you're all gonna die pretty soon. Not at the hands of me, but at the hands of history repeating itself. You're all a mirror image of what was predicted in the lit-orbs 7000 years ago. We make decisions... Yet, we're slaves. You're not all intellectual as I remember from the stories I've heard. I will explain."
"You had better make it pretty quick mister, I am supposed to find some other guy down here who can tell me the History of Equestria." Rainbow now had a cockier inflection in her voice. A bead of sweat rolled down her face.
"Instead of "The History of Equestria", how about I tell you "The Downfall of Man". It's pretty much the same story, and you'll soon understand why."
"In the year 2020, the world was in chaos with the founding of fusion energy having created an energy crisis that caused their governments power to increase exponentially, resulting in a neo-holocaust that swept throughout the world. The same conditions applied: Whites remain, while Jews, Gypsies, blacks and people not fit to survive were killed. But there was a fluke.
"People not fit to survive" were many. Teen and adult My Little Pony fans were one of the major targets, having been deemed too weak-minded and feminine to survive in the new fascist one-world-government.
The show had entered its 8th season and was only becoming better and better recieved by the public.
300,000 people attended conventions regularily, while underground fans were in the millions of viewers.
People who attended conventions were secretly kept track of.
They knew that they would be killed in their homes or sent into labor camps.
And that's why under the Appalachian mountains, in a cave, some brave brony men and women fled their lifestyles to live underground.
Using newly developed fusion power, they were able to live off plants grown underground. At first this group was a secluded 500 people, then to 1000, and then to 20,000 civilians by the year 2030.
But then in 2033, nanobots were crafted that bore into the earth, causing the bronies to leave their homes again and burrow even deeper in the earth where the nanobots couldn't descend to.
They thought that the end was nigh, and they were right. But that was only the beginning of a long era.
Rebel groups destroyed the earth in the later part of 2033. Nuclear fallout and waste was abundant like water on the surface of earth. Any survivors on land died before the fall of 2035.
There may have been pockets of humans underground at this time, and there probably were. But there was no way for underground civilizations to communicate with one another.
So the Bronies were as good as alone. Underground, surviving off a diet of mushrooms, hemp and vitamins.
The community thrived for a long time, but resources were becoming dismal. Times became tougher, and the Bronies relied on religion to take their sorrows away in those horrible times. They began worshiping the ponies of Friendship is Magic, and it developed into a full scale religion with church groups and prayer regularily. Artists devoted their lives to inscribing ponies into the cave walls. With Princess Celestia and Luna as Gods and the main ponies as demigods, people would often choose a single pony to model their life values after.
Visions of ponies would come to people in their sleep. It was a beautiful religion.
But mind you, that scientific advances were still happening at an incredible rate, even below this deep cave in the earth.
Biological engineering was the only path for survival. Human DNA was fixed with traits of ponies, pegasii, unicorns, and all other creatures from the show/faith.
Not only that, but they were crafted to survive under incredible stress, including ionizing radiation such as on land.
Thousands of these ponies were sent above, with little contact from man below. Some believed that they were being experimented on and became paranoid that humans were simply using them as cattle. But their fears subsided as messages from man became fewer and farther between.
They all were brilliant creatures, beautiful too, and they knew that they had a bright future. So out of the dark ages they came, and established life in Equestria and all along the continental US. Some even traveled overseas eventually. The conquest of new-earth was a triumph, and everyone had forgotten about humans within 2000 years."
So you see, our most ancient records of human kind go back to 5000 B.C. We have 7000 years of records, but nothing before that gives us a firm understanding of who lived before us. All records of humans are lost to the ponies of 9000 A.D.
"The stories were passed down through 3 families, but never released to the public, for the secret of human technology must have been kept a secret.
It could destroy their civilization.
Instead we rely on magic; a simple manifestation of the nuclear energy around us.
The royal family is one of those 3 families who keeps the secret of history locked away. I am from one of those families. Princess Celestia knows of the downfall of man, and intends on making sure that Equestria and the surrounding lands remain happy places to live for many millenium more. She probably has good intentions unlike most royal figures.
But in my most humble opinion, you can't stop what's coming, and you can't stop history from repeating itself ad infinitum.
