Finding Hope

Chapter One

Welcome to Novac

Spike carefully dropped the last box onto the Couriers hotel room floor. Then turned around to face said man, who was siting on his dusty bed.

“Well that's the last of your junk, would have been finished along time ago if 'somepony' had helped me” said Spike rolling his eyes.

“Someone” Blake corrected taking off his boots.

“What?”

“You said 'somepony', but the right word hear is 'someone'” He responded removing his right boot and exposing his sweaty sock.

Spike rolled his eyes “Whatever”

The little dragon walked over to the fridge, but upon opening the door all he found was some beer and wine. Spikes tummy growled, he needed food.

“Um... quick question” Spike transferred his gaze to Blake, who was now laying on his back, hands behind his head “wheres the food?”

Blake smiled “Don't got nun, remember we ate the last of it this morning on our way hear”

Spike crossed his little arms and walked over to the bedside.

“Well where can we get some?”

The human reached a hand down to his backpack and pulled out a .357 magnum revolver, then held it out to the baby dragon. Spike was confused, he had only been in this world for three days and had not gotten used to its peoples gestures yet. Blake sighed and taped the end of the gun barrel to the dragons shoulder.

“If you want food you got to go hunt it down first” Blake declared.

Spikes eyes widened “You mean kil-”.

“Kill?” Blake interrupted, Spike nodded “Yes, its about time you learn”.

“But..but..bu-”

“No buts!” Blake sat up and placed the gun in Spikes hand, closing his little fingers around the handle. “I don't know how you lived back on your world but hear you die if you don't kill, understand!”.

Spike tried to hold them back but a few tears escaped his eyes, some times Blake could go from kind, nice guy too a mean and forceful jerk. Spike nodded and lowered his head.

Blake saw what he had done to the little guy and that made him regret yelling. He's new to this way of life and probably had never even touched a weapon let alone a gun, also he's just a kid. Maybe another day I’ll teach him to kill, but not today.

The human lifted Spikes chin with his index finger, looking him in the eyes he spoke calmly.

“Hay don't cry I'm sorry for yelling at you like that, It was a dick move to push you into killing. But some day soon you will have to learn how to survive out hear, I mite not all ways be around to save you. But that's not today, so how about we go to one of the caravans I been talking about and get some gub?”.

Spike rubbed his nose and smiled “Really, I don't have to kill something?”

“Nope not today” Blake assured him putting the revolver back into his bag and got up from the bed, putting on his boots, and walked over to the door “now you coming?”

“You bet!” Said Spike excitedly “hay, can we get some of that gecko steak like the one we ate yesterday?”.

Blake opened the door, Spike walked pasted him. “Sure if they got some”.

“Yea!”

Blake smiled and closed the door, locking it as well.

...

The Courier and his little dragon companion walked past the giant dinosaur statue and threw the town of Novac, just having finished there meals. The towns people didn’t pay much attend to the little dragon, having seen far worse in the wasteland and also the fact that he was with Blake made him insistently a good guy in there eyes.

Spike looked up to his 'friend'. “So what now?”

Blake stopped (so did Spike) and brought a hand up to his chin in thought. After a moment an idea came to his head. “How about we ask around for some leads to help you get home”.

Spike smiled “Yea! Thanks”.

He returned the smile “No problem”.

Spike and Blake spent all day asking around to anybody If they had seen any strange oddities going on around town, but of course no one had seen anything. After leaving No-bark's shack and almost getting shot by the crazy old man Blake decided that if anybody would know anything it would be the major, Jeannie May Crawford, so that's where they where heading.  Blake opened the door too her office.

Jeannie heard the bell ring, she looked up from her book and smiled at the hero, but then looked down at the little dragon by his side and raised an eyebrow. Spike saw this and got behind Blakes leg.

“What the hell is that thing?” She asked standing up out of her chair, and walking over to the counter.

Blake put a protective hand on Spikes head, giving her a frown.

“He's not a what, he's a whom and he is not a thing. Spike hear is lost and I was hoping that you would have any leads” Blake said not at all amused.

She walked around the counter and got right in Blakes face “How the hell would I know where that thing comes from, I don't even know what it is”.

“That's not what I was asking” He spoke threw gritted teeth “have you seen any odd things going on around town or not”.

Jeannie Ignored the question (which only pissed Blake off even more) and got down on one nee, she looked Spike in the eyes and smiled. “Hi there little guy, can you tell me where your from?”.

Spike looked up at Blake, he nodded, so spike turned back to Jeannie. “Um... Equestria”.

Jeannie looked confused. She got back on two feet, looking at Blake. “Sorry I don't know where that is”.

Blake sighed and looked down at Spike “Well it was worth a shot, come on lets go”.

'I am starting to thank that this is going to be harder than I predicted It would be' thought Blake.

They turned  around and where heading too the door, but Jeannie placed a hand on Blakes shoulder.

“Um, I know what I just said but... I have a job I need you to do”.

Blake and Spike spun around and gave her a 'are you serious' look. She smiled, placing a fold up paper in his right hand, closing the fingers around it. She looked up at Blake.

“This is a letter that needs to be taken to the NCR camp east of here, give it to a Captain. James Ox and when you get back I will pay you 30caps”.

“60caps” he said determined to get the most out of this.

She gave him her best poker face “40caps”

“56caps”

“45caps”

Blake gave her his poker face “50caps last offer”.

They both stood there in silence, nether one of them backing down. Spike was confused, nervous, and scared so he got behind a chair thanking that a fight was about to happen.

Finally Jeannie relented and burst into laughter, Blake did not laugh. She wiped a tear from her eye and nodded “Okay.. okay, 50caps”

Blake nodded and spun around out the door, Spike fallowed.

Jeannie returned too her chair and opened her book. 'Sometimes life is just to fun' she thought.

...

A lone figure hesitantly made his way down a long, dark, and terrifying alleyway in New Vegas. The only light for this traveler was the moon, which shined in the night sky like a lit fire in a dark home. The only sound was the stomp of his boots, one step after the other, and on occasion a drop of water falling from a pipe and onto the cobblestone ground.

The man was terrified out of his mind. The only reason he was going down an alleyway in the middle of the night was to get home from his long trip back from the recently opened 'Lucky 38 casino' on the other side of the city. Which for an old man like himself was already a hard effort in its self. And to make things worse the only weapon he had on him was a rusty old switchblade.

The robot guards at the gate even had the nerve to stop and question him about some missing people and asked if he had seen anything out of the ordinary, to which of course he said no, but now he was terrified.

And by the time that was all taken care of it was all ready midnight. So all he wanted to do was go home to his wife and kids and get some sleep.

But fate had other plans...

With another step the man looked around nervously, as if half expecting to see a monster in the shadows. But unannounced to him their was someone there, or at lest something.

It watched as the nervous wreck of a man slowly came further and further into the alleyway, not knowing that death was only moments away for himself. This 'man' would be his seventh victim. The thought & planing that go's into a hunt was a thrill to it, but the kill was much more fun.

After a few more steps Its target was far away from the entrance of the alleyway, so far that no one who was still out tonight would hear his screams, that was if he even had the chance to scream before... death.

The man was so close now, almost right next to his killer, but the shadows where keeping It hidden.. for now. The old man smelled of fear, his heart was beating at an alarming rate. The killer could already taste the sweet, savory, delicious blood.

As the man pasted the hiding spot of the killer  It slowly reviled its self. It started to move slow, then unable to take another second of waiting it started to move a little faster, until it was in a sprint. The old man did not even realize it was behind him... until its breath was on the back of his neck.

His eyes widened, but that was all he could do before a sharp blade had pierced his throat... Then he was dead....

There was now a 'seventh victim' to Its killing spree, far too many for one place. It needed a new hunting ground, a new place to kill.

Out of the top of Its head  one town came to mind.... Novac.
