First priority: Know your enemy (or just get a book on them)
It was the dead of night in Ponyville, and almost the entire town was sound asleep, save for a certain lavender alicorn in the library whose eyes were chained to the pages of a large tome laying in front of her. Bathed in the candlelight, her fur looked almost like dark sand. A tapping came at the window next to Twilight, and she looked up from her book to see who it was. In the darkness outside, all she could really make out of her visitor was a dark shape with wings, so she lit her horn to make it easier to see who it was.
"Rainbow Dash?" Twilight opened the window to let in her friend. "What are you doing here this late?"
"I just wanted to come down here to borrow a book is all, Twilight, jeez." Rainbow said as she closed the window.
"At 11 at night? That's a bit weird for you, but okay. Which one of the Daring Do books are you looking for?" Twilight asked. Her friend simply just flew past her into the main room of the library and began searching the shelves, squinting to read the titles of the books in the darkness as she slowly circled the room. There had to be something on...
"Vamponies! Yes!"
"Vamponies? Rainbow, since when did you take interest in vamponies?" Twilight thought through all the novels centered around vamponies that she had seen that Rainbow Dash may have read that could have brought this about, but none of the options that went through Twilight's mind seemed viable. Rainbow skimmed through some of the pages of the book she held in her hooves to make sure it was the very one she had in mind. Extermination techniques, how to identify a vampire... Yes. This was the very book she had in mind. A sly grin spread across Rainbow's face.
"Rainbow, you didn't answer my question." Twilight said sternly.
"Huh? Oh, sorry... I... Heard something about vamponies in Cloudsdale a few days ago. They sounded really cool, so I wanted to read about them." Rainbow hoped that lie was convincing enough. She didn't need her friend asking questions right now... Twilight looked like she was analyzing what her pegasus friend just told her. She was good at picking up on a lie. Not exactly the best at doing so, but still really good at it. She gave a shrug and said she was fine with Rainbow taking the book, which resulted in a bone-crunching hug from the pegasus before she flew out the door.
That's the book I can take off the list. I can get the other stuff tomorrow. With that thought set in her mind, she sped off towards home.
