It was a new day, and this was the day I started my second life. I walked out of my room in the west tower, breathing in the morning air and headed down to the courtyard, a messenger galloped up to me when I arrived there.

“Excuse me sir, but are you Spade?”

“Yes, that would be me.”

“Then this would be for you.” He handed me a note and galloped away.

The not had a royal seal on it. I opened the note and it said to meet Princess Celestia in the guard barracks for reasons she would explain when I arrived. I closed the note and headed there. When I arrived, Celestia was standing there with a line of Guards and Adventurers.

“What’s happening here?” I asked the Princess

“Spade, its time… time to choose you companion.” She responded in serious yet sorrowful tone.

I shuttered at the thought of traveling with someone else, and don’t get me started on training some pony. “Do I hath to..?”

“I’m sorry, but yes you do. It’s time to move on.”

“Fine…” I agreed.

“Then let’s get started shell we? Spade, this is General Nova, New captain of the royal guard. And this is Shining Armor, ex captain of the royal guard.”

“Nice to meet you both” I greeted Shaking nova’s hoof.

“likewise.” Nova replied

“Now Spade,” Shining chimed in, “we’ve gathered these warriors because we feel they are fit to assist you on your journey.”

I scanned all the warriors chosen for me, all large burly stallions, they seemed they could handle themselves in a fight, but none had the spark that I was looking for, one that said, “I will fight for the good of the people and to keep them safe, not just to have the chance to smash some skulls.” My eyes drifted out side of the lineup, and I saw her standing behind Nova. The perfect companion and perhaps a new friend. a unicorn with a white mane half in a ponytail the other half hanging out. she also had a grey coat, bright blue eyes, and golden necklace.

“How about her?” I asked

She looked up, surprised. “M-me?”

Nova stepped in front of her. “This is my daughter Faith; she is not one of the available warriors. Besides I’m not sure I want my daughter running off with a Colt I’ve never met before.”

“No offense to any pony here but I just can’t see any of ye traveling with me. I need some pony I can relate to, not a juggernaut, again no offense.”

“None taken,” said a very burly stallion with an eye patch from the lineup.

“I still don’t approve of this and I will not let you take her,” Nova continued.

“Excuse me?” Faith interrupted, but I’m eighteen now and I happen to have a mind of my own, besides, I’m a talented archer and I think with some help I can handle myself.”

“Well, Faith would you like to travel with Spade?” Celestia asked. “This is a big decision and it might take some time to think about.”

Faith thought for a second, “I’ll give it a shot.” She smiled.

My ears perked up joyfully, Celestia and Shining Smiled, but Nova just rolled his eyes and trotted out. “I’ll see you at home, nova grumbled”

“Wonderful! You should gather you’re things and get ready for an adventure, but please, don’t pack too much. Everything you bring you will be carrying on you back,” Celestia stated.

“Understood, Princess. I’ll meet you at Donut Joe’s okay, Spade?” Faith replied then galloped out of the room.

“And as for you Spade, I’m giving you and her a week before you need to leave. Here is you’re objective,” she explained handing me an envelope with several documents explaining the location, important people, and the objective its self, however one thing confused me, it was a small golden card that said royal treasury.

“What’s this? What had happened to the bits we used as currency?” I asked.

“Nothing, but with this all you need to do is hand it to the pony you’re paying and the money will be taken out of the Special Forces fund in the treasury to pay for it.” She explained.

“I see, I suppose I should be on my way,” As I stated exiting the guard barracks.

“Oh and one more thing, times have changed from olden days. Don’t expect things to be the same, and you should also work on that old accent you have. It’s very slight, so getting rid of it should be as simple as talking to people without it.”

“Um, right, I’ll try to lose it,”

Shining met with me outside, as we started to trot to the Donut Joe’s.

“Hey don’t let Nova bother you okay, he’s just a tough pony.”

“He doesn’t, but he dost remind me a bit of Star Swirl.”

Shining chuckled, “I see, so, why Faith?”

“Something about her just seemed, right,” I replied.

“If I didn’t know any better id think you had a crush on her,” he smiled.

I rolled my eyes, “if I were to hath crush on her I don’t believe I’d want to put her in danger.”

“But you would want to get closer to her.” Shining continued.

“Silence yourself.” I laughed.

Shining laughed as well, “Well I wouldn’t worry about it, I had a crush on my little sister’s foal sitter.”

“And how did that work out for you?”

“We’re married and leaving to go on our honey moon in about…” Shining looked to the clock tower in Canterlot Square, his eyes widened and a look of distress hit his face. “About 10 minutes ago…”

“I suppose we should part ways then?” I replied sarcastically.

“Uh, right, I gotta run. Good luck with your girlfriend!” he shouted galloping off.

“She is not my girlfriend!” I yelled back, my face bright red.

Faith trotted up behind me without me noticing, “Who’s not?”

I jumped, “ah! H-hey you hath arrived earlier t-then expected.”

“Yep, all packed up and ready for an adventure,” she smiled, “the donut shop is about 10 minutes that way,” She said pointing down Mane Street.

“Lead on then, Faith.”

“You sure you can keep up, Guardian?” She said lifting an eyebrow.

“I think I can manage,” I replied doing the same.

At this time I was still questioning my judgment of Faith. Though I would soon realize this would probably be the best choice I had ever made.
