A Grandmother-to-Granddaughter Picnic... With a Special Guest

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Scootaloo woke up the next morning and yawned. Rubbing her eyes, she rolled over onto her back and saw Flutterkind standing over her.

"Gramma?", Scootaloo said, her voice sounding very tired.

"Good morning, Sweetie", Flutterkind said, sitting down on the bed next to Scootaloo. Scootaloo sat up and hugged her grandmother , ignoring the wetness in her diaper. She was pretty much used to it now.

"Morning, Gramma", Scootaloo said, yawning loudly, "Do I have to go to school today?"

"Sweetie, it's Saturday", Flutterkind said.

"Oh... right", Scootaloo said. Flutterkind chuckled lightly and checked Scootaloo's diaper.

"Sweetie, it seems you had an accident last night", Flutterkind said, "Wait here for a moment while I get you a clean diaper".

Soon, Flutterkind had changed Scootaloo and put her robe back on her.

"Thanks, Gramma", Scootaloo said.

"You're welcome, Sweetie", Flutterkind said, "Now, I'm making breakfast downstairs. You may go downstairs whenever you want some". Scootaloo nodded and followed Flutterkind downstairs.

While Flutterkind finished up making breakfast, Scootaloo walked into the living room. The first one to greet her was Sledge, who licked her face several times before sitting down in front of her.

"Morning, Sledge", Scootaloo said. Sledge walked over to the front door and sat down. Scootaloo caught what he was trying to signal. She opened the door and let Sledge out. A few minutes later, he came back and laid down on the rug.

"Scootaloo", Flutterkind called from the kitchen, "Breakfast is ready". Scootaloo walked into the kitchen and sat down in one of the chairs.

Flutterkind served Scootaloo then herself. Scootaloo smiled as she looked at the contents of her plate. Chocolate chip waffles, over-easy eggs, toast, and hay-bacon, along with apple juice. Also, there was a bowl of salad in the middle of the two.

"Thank you, Gramma", Scootaloo said, instantly digging in. Flutterkind chuckled lightly.

"You're welcome, Scootaloo", Flutterkind said, starting to eat.

Halfway through her breakfast, Scootaloo noticed Fluttershy wasn't around.

"Gramma?", Scootaloo said, adding a bit of Zap-Apple-Jam to her toast.

"Yes?", Flutterkind said, serving herself some of the salad.

"Where's Mommy?"

"She went out to buy some more cherries. Angel won't eat his salads with out the cherries. Hmph, such a picky eater". Scootaloo chuckled.

"Yeah. That's how I used to be. I wouldn't eat anything if it wasn't just right".

"Neither would I". The front door lock clicked and Fluttershy entered, carrying a bag of cherries.

"Good morning, Sweetie", Fluttershy said to Scootaloo.

"Morning, Mommy", Scootaloo said, nuzzling Fluttershy. Fluttershy poured some of the cherries into a small bowl for Angel, then looked at Scootaloo.

"I have good news for you", Fluttershy said.

"What is it?", Scootaloo said.

"I'll tell you", Flutterkind said, "Now that Fluttershy and I are sharing bits and helping support this family, we talked and decided it's time for you to start getting allowance". Hearing that last word, Scootaloo's ears perked up.

"Allowance?!", she said, very excited.

"Yes", Fluttershy said, "You get five bits a week. More if you complete chores". Scootaloo hugged Fluttershy.

"Thank you!", Scootaloo said.

"It was Mother's idea", Fluttershy said. Scootaloo turned to Flutterkind.

"Thank you too!"

"You're welcome, Scootaloo", Flutterkind said. Fluttershy gave Scootaloo a small bag full of bits. Scootaloo smiled as she stared at the small beige-colored bag in her hooves.

"Now, I need to set some ground rules", Fluttershy said. Scootaloo turned around to look at her mother. "You only get allowance every Saturday. If you need change, we would be happy to help you with that. There will be no begging for any amount of money if it is not allowance day. Also, be smart and responsible with your money. If you lose it, we will not give it back to you. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes Ma'am", Scootaloo said.

"Also", Flutterkind added, "Remember to be smart with your money. If there's something you want but you don't have enough, you'll have to save it up. Understood?"

"Yes Ma'am", Scootaloo said to Flutterkind.

"Good", Flutterkind said. Scootaloo finished her breakfast.

"So, can I go out? I have a Cutie Mark Crusaders meeting today", Scootaloo said.

"Yes, Scootaloo", Fluttershy said, "Just be back in two hours". Scootaloo nodded and left. Flutterkind looked at Fluttershy.

"What's a 'Cutie Mark Crusaders meeting'?", she said.

"It's a meeting Scootaloo and her friends make", Fluttershy said, "She and her friends are Blank Flanks, and like to do activities, hoping to earn their cutie marks".

"They're that determined?", Flutterkind said.

"Yes", Fluttershy said, "I hope they get them soon, because the last time they had a sleepover here, they were almost eaten alive by a cockatrice".

"Wow", Flutterkind said. At that point, Angel had hopped into the kitchen, having just woken up.

"Good morning, Angel Bunny", Fluttershy said to him.

"Morning, Fluttershy", Angel said.

"Here's your breakfast", Fluttershy said, pointing to the bowl of cherries. Without any hesitation, Angel hopped onto the table and began ravenously devouring the cherries, not even bothering to remove the stems.

"Sweetie?", Flutterkind said to her daughter.

"Yes, Mother?", Fluttershy said.

"I still a little worried about Scootaloo".

"Why?"

"I don't think we're bonding good enough. I'm afraid she thinks of me as random pony in the house".

"Why would she? She loves you".

"But she has known you ever since you met your other five friends. She's only known me for five days".

"Well...", Angel said, finishing up his cherries, "Why don't you and Scootaloo do something together? That's how her and Fluttershy bonded well".

"Well, what should we do, Angel?", Flutterkind asked Angel.

"How about a picnic? That's my favorite thing to do with Fluttershy".

"That sounds lovely", Fluttershy said, "Mother, I'm sure Scootaloo would like that".

"Well... I... OK. I'll take Scootaloo out for a picnic".

"Good. Now, she'll be back in about two hours. You may want to get ready now".

"OK".

Meanwhile at Sweet Apple Acres...

Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle were at Sweet Apple Acres, trying to get their cutie marks by helping the Apples with the chores and harvests. Applebloom was making fertilizer, Scootaloo was bucking apple trees the best she could, and Sweetie Belle was feeding the animals.

"Ah really don't hope ah git mah cutie mark in this", Applebloom said, fighting the stench of the manure she was using. Even with the clothespin on her muzzle, the smell still crept its way into her nostrils.

"Well... this isn't easy", Scootaloo said, trying to knock the apples off of a tree. Her tiny hind legs weren't as strong as Applejack's, so it took her about twenty bucks to knock every apple off of a tree. The good thing was that she could eat as many apples as she could, being cautious not to accidentally throw any eaten cores into the buckets.

"Can you slow down?", Sweetie Belle said to a pig, who was eating rather fast, "You're gonna end up choking".

"Applebloom", Applejack said, having just shucked the corn in the fields, "Time for yer friends to go home. Ya got inside-chores ya need to finish".

"Oh... OK", Applebloom said, rinsing any excess mess off of her hooves with the hose, "See y'all later".

"You too, Applebloom", Sweetie Belle said.

"Yeah", Scootaloo said, grabbing a golden delicious apple and eating it whole. After that, Scootaloo ran off, Sweetie Belle following her.

Once Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle got back into town, she looked at the clock-tower next to City Hall.

"Still got an hour before I have to go home", Scootaloo said, "Why don't we go to Sugarcube Corner, on me?"

"Since when do you ever pay for treats?", Sweetie Belle said, "Do you even have any bits?" Scootaloo smiled as she pulled out her bag of money. "Oh... then let's go".

Once the fillies reached Sugarcube Corner, they walked in, instantly being attacked by a strong aroma of baked goods. They sat down at a table and was serviced by Pinkie Pie, who randomly appeared in front of them.

"Hiya Scootaloo! Hiya Sweetie Belle!", she said in her usual, very enthusiastic voice.

"Hey, Pinkie", Scootaloo said.

"Hi, Pinkie", Sweetie Belle said.

"What can I do for you today?", Pinkie said, pulling out her notebook, ready to write. The fillies looked at their menus for a bit.

"Can I have an apple cupcake?", Scootaloo said, "With a chocolate milkshake?"

"Yep!", Pinkie said, quickly scribbling it down. Then, Sweetie Belle had decided what she wanted.

"I want a peach cupcake", Sweetie Belle said, "With a vanilla milkshake". Pinkie quickly scribbled that down.

"Anything else?", Pinkie said.

"Nope", the fillies simultaneously said.

"Okie Dokey Lokie! That'll be four bits!", Pinkie said. Scootaloo opened her bag, took out four bits, and put them on the table. Pinkie scooped them up and dashed off into the kitchen. A few minutes later, she came back and gave the fillies what they wanted.

"Thanks, Pinkie", they both said, starting to eat. Pinkie dashed off to take the next order.

~~~~~~~~~~
After their treats, they both went home. Once Scootaloo had reached the cottage, she opened the door and sat down on the couch, sighing loudly. It felt good every time she sat down on that couch. She closed her eyes and relaxed, letting the soft cushions touch her back. Right when the relaxation was about to take affect and put her to sleep...
"Scootaloo", a voice called. Scootaloo sat up and saw Flutterkind sitting next to her. "Sorry if I woke you".
"I wasn't sleeping, Gramma", Scootaloo said, "I was just relaxing".
"Oh... well, I have a surprise for you".
"What is it?"
"I was thinking you and I could go out for a picnic. Just you and me".
"Why?"
"Because I wanna do something special for you". Scootaloo shrugged.
"OK", she said, standing up, "I have to go pee first".
"Go ahead, Sweetie", Flutterkind said. Scootaloo walked upstairs to the bathroom.
After handling her business, she came back downstairs. Flutterkind smiled.
"Ready to go?", she said.
"Mm-hmm", Scootaloo said.
"So, you said you've never been to Cloudsdale before?" Scootaloo nodded. "Well... how would you like to have our picnic there?" Scootaloo's ears perked up.
"R-really?!", she said, getting very excited.
"Yes", Flutterkind said. Scootaloo hugged Flutterkind as tight as she could.
"Thank you!", Scootaloo said.
"You're welcome, Sweetie", Flutterkind said, "Now, hop on so we can go". Scootaloo quickly hopped onto Flutterkind's back. "Also, you'll need to hold on tight, because Cloudsdale is very high in altitude, and everything will be very light. I really don't want you to fall off". Scootaloo wrapper her tiny front legs around Flutterkind's neck tightly, but not enough to choke her. "Ready?"
"Yes, Gramma", Scootaloo said. Flutterkind grabbed the picnic basket with her teeth and flew off, Scootaloo getting very anxious.
~~~~~~~~~~

Soon, Flutterkind and Scootaloo made it to Cloudsdale.

"We're... here...", Scootaloo said.

"Yes", Flutterkind said. Scootaloo quickly jumped off of Flutterkind's back. But before she could land, Flutterkind quickly grabbed her. "Sweetie, Pegasus Ponies can still fall through clouds if they put too much stress on them, and Cloudsdale is made of nothing but clouds, so be careful".

Scootaloo nodded and Flutterkind slowly put her down onto the cloud. Scootaloo could feel the soft, damp cloud on her hooves. It felt good.

"This... is... awesome! My first time walking on a cloud!", Scootaloo happily said. Flutterkind chuckled lightly.

"The first time is always the best", she said, "Fluttershy and I had the same reaction". Then, Scootaloo strangely felt cold, as she began to shake a bit. Flutterkind looked at Scootaloo. "Are you OK?"

"J-just a little c-cold", Scootaloo said back.

"Oh, don't worry. Since this is your first time in a high altitude, you'll feel a cold for a while. You should get used to it in about five minutes". Scootaloo nodded, still shivering a bit. "Now, follow me. I wanna show you around Cloudsdale before we have our picnic".

Scootaloo followed Flutterkind to many rooms, like the Wonderbolt's Training Room and the Games Room. Soon, they came Cloudsdale's main room: The Weather Creation Room.

"And this is the main and most important room", Flutterkind said, "The Weather Creation Room". Scootaloo looked around and saw many great sights.

"Wow!", she said, "Can we go in?"

"Sure", Flutterkind said, "Just be careful. It's very dangerous". Flutterkind and Scootaloo walked into the room and walked to a station. "This is Cloud Creation. Cloudsdale makes the softest clouds in Equestria". Scootaloo reached out and touched one of the clouds.

"That is soft", she said.

"Yep". They walked to a different station. "This is Rain Creation. Using the water Cloudsdale gets from the Pegasus Tornado Power, the rain is created". They walked to the last station. "And last, my old job, Rainbow Creation. The best station in the whole room". Scootaloo looked at the multicolored mixture, then back at Flutterkind.

"Gramma?"

"Yes?"

"This is a random question but, can I taste some of the mix?"

"I wouldn't if I were you. One of Fluttershy's friends tasted it and she said it was spicy, but if you want to, go ahead". Scootaloo dipped her hoof into the mixture and then into her mouth.

"It tastes good", Scootaloo said, "A little spicy".

"Wow. You can stand the spice. So, lets go have our picnic". Flutterkind and Scootaloo turned around and was about to walk out when...

"Flutterkind!", a voice called. Flutterkind turned around and saw her former boss, Sugar Twist.

"Ms. Twist", Flutterkind said, "Hello".

"I have good news for you! The security cameras saw that you weren't the one who had the steroids. Your rehired to your position!"

"Really? Oh thank you Ms. Twist!"

"No problem. You start next week". Sugar Twist walked off. Flutterkind and Scootaloo walked off to have their picnic.

~~~~~~~~~~
Soon, they reached a room that was where they were gonna have their picnic.
"Sweetie", Flutterkind said, "I know I said you and me, but my friend wants to join us. Is this OK?"
"That's OK", Scootaloo said, "I'm just ready to eat". Flutterkind smiled and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, someone answered from the other side.
"Come in". Flutterkind opened the door and saw her friend sitting on her bed. She looked at Flutterkind.
"Hey, Flutterkind", she said. Scootaloo immediately recognized Flutterkind's friend.
"Hello, Spitfire", Flutterkind said.
"Sp... Spitfire?!", Scootaloo said, starting to stammer. Spitfire looked at Scootaloo.
"Yes?", she said.
"Y-you're Spitfire?! As in THE Spitfire?! The captain of the Wonderbolts?!", Scootaloo said.
"That's me", Spitfire said, "The one and only". Scootaloo felt dizzy and would've fainted if Flutterkind hadn't caught her. "Looks like you're excited to see me".
"No foaling! You're my idol! I have every poster, action figure, drinking glass, blanket, and everything else with you on it!"
"A fan? Cool. But, I thought Rainbow Dash was your idol".
"Y-you know Rainbow Dash?!"
"Of course I do. She saved my ass during the Young Flier's Competition".
"Spitfire!", Flutterkind said, "Language! You're in the same room with a filly".
"Oh, right. Sorry, kid", Spitfire said, ruffling Scootaloo's mane. Scootaloo squealed as Spitfire touched her mane. "So, let's eat".
After getting served, the Pegasi started eating. Scootaloo, however, could hardly eat. She was filled with excitement, being in the same room with her idol. Scootaloo bit into her cucumber sandwich and was ready to ask some questions.
"Spitfire?", Scootaloo said. Spitfire looked up from her sandwich.
"Yeah, kid?", Spitfire said.
"Can I ask you a few questions?"
"Fire away". Scootaloo smiled.
"How long have you and Gramma been friends?"
"Ever since we were fillies. Went to school together and worked together. We were roommates before she was evicted".
"OK. Two: Do you have a crush on Soarin?"
"What? No! Why would I have a crush on that..." She finished the rest of her sentence under her breath. "...very cute hunk of stallion".
"I heard that!", Scootaloo happily said, "You do have a crush on him!" Spitfire knew there was no use trying to deny it, since Scootaloo had heard what she said.
"Fine. Yeah I do", Spitfire admitted. Scootaloo laughed.
"I knew it! You do have a crush on him!"
"Yeah yeah l know. Anything else?" Scootaloo thought about it for a minute, then asked a final question.
"Do you think you can teach me how to fly?", she said. Spitfire smiled.
"Of course I can. Why do you ask?"
"Because I... can't fly".
"You can't?"
"No. And I don't think I'll ever be able to".
"Kid, it always takes time before a Pegasus can fly".
"That's what everypony keeps telling me. I'm eight years old and still can't fly".
"Well... you wanna know a secret?" Scootaloo nodded. "I didn't learn how to fly until I was fourteen".
"Really?"
"Yeah. I was the only one in my freshman year who couldn't fly, and everypony called me 'Flightless Fire'. Trust me, you don't a nickname like that when you go to school with a bunch of jocks".
"Whoa. Even Spitfire got bullied".
"Yep. But as soon as I learned to fly, I was the fastest in my class, and even Soarin liked it. Oh... Soarin..."
"Wow. So, have you ever told Soarin how you feel?"
"No kid. That's my only fear".
"Why don't you tell him?"
"Because... I..." Spitfire couldn't finish her sentence, so Flutterkind finished it for her.
"She's afraid Soarin may not want to be with her", she said. Spitfire nodded.
"Yeah...", she said.
"Spitfire...", Scootaloo said, "He won't know what you want until you tell him".
"B... but-", Spitfire tried to say before a knock on the door interrupted her. "Come in". The door opened and who walked in completely surprised Spitfire.
It was Soarin, who was carrying an envelope.
"Letter for Flutterkind", he said, giving Flutterkind the envelope. Before he left, Scootaloo talked to him.
"Hey, Soarin", she said. The stallion looked at her.
"Yeah?", he said.
"I'm a fan of you and Spitfire!"
"Cool. A fan".
"Anyway, Spitfire has something she wants to say to you". What Scootaloo said caught Spitfire by surprise, and she knew that there was no way out of her situation when Soarin looked at her.
"What is it, Spits?", Soarin said to Spitfire. Spitfire nervously looked at Scootaloo, then at Flutterkind, who both gave her a nod.
"Uh... well... um...", Spitfire tried to say, "I have to tell you that..." Spitfire's tail started quivering with fear as she tried to speak.
"Spits?", Soarin said, "You OK?"
"Uh... uh...", Spitfire kept trying to say. Flutterkind leaned over to Scootaloo.
"She's having a hard time, Sweetie", she said, "Maybe you should help her". Scootaloo smiled.
"I got this", she said. Scootaloo got up, stood behind the nervous Spitfire, and kicked her back with her hind legs, instantly making her spit out what she had to say.
"SoarinIhaveacrushonyou!", she said all together as if Pinkie would. Soarin caught every word.
"R... really?", he said, very surprised.
"Y-yes. I love you... Soarin", Spitfire finally said. She peeked up and saw Soarin walking toward her. Spitfire instantly buried her face behind her mane, afraid at what he might do.
Once Soarin reached Spitfire, he knelt down and placed her muzzle on her's, locking in a kiss. Spitfire's eyes went very big as Soarin kissed her, then let go.
"Spitsy", he said, using her secret nickname, "I love you too". He nuzzled her and kissed her cheek. Spitfire buried her face in Soarin's coat, nuzzling him back. Scootaloo smiled as she leaned over to her grandmother.
"It worked", she said.
"Yes it did", Flutterkind said back. Soarin whispered something into Spitfire's ear, then left. Spitfire stood up.
"Kid, Flutterkind", she said, "I have to go. Soarin wants me to join him for a seven-hour bubble bath". She started to leave, but knew there was something she needed to do first. She turned to Scootaloo. "Kid, you never told me your name".
"I'm Scootaloo", Scootaloo said.
"Well, Scootaloo, I want to thank you for helping me get over my fear. I'm going to reward you for that". She went over to her drawer and pulled out three pieces of paper. She then hoofed them to Scootaloo. One look made Scootaloo gasp.
"Front row tickets to the Wonderbolts Flier's Competition?! With backstage passes?!", she said, very surprised.
"Yep", Spitfire said back, "For you and two others. See ya, Scootaloo". Spitfire left the room, while Scootaloo stared at her tickets. Flutterkind smiled.
"Looks like Spitfire is very thankful to you", she said.
"Yeah!", Scootaloo said, "She gave me front row tickets to the biggest Wonderbolts Competition!" Scootaloo hugged the tickets. Flutterkind chuckled. Then, she noticed the letter that was for her. She opened the envelope and found her room key and a letter, telling her that she was welcome back to her room.
"I'm allowed to live here again!", she said, "This day is getting better!"
"Looks like we both got something cool!", Scootaloo said. The two Pegasi continued their picnic.
~~~~~~~~~~

Ponyville, 9:00 PM...

Scootaloo and Flutterkind had made it back to Ponyville. Flutterkind moved out, but promised to visit. Scootaloo and Angel had fallen asleep on the couch during a movie, and Fluttershy was sleeping in her room.

Flutterheart and Light Cloud were outside the cottage, peeking through the window. They saw Scootaloo asleep on the couch, with Angel sleeping on her stomach.

"Damn!", Flutterheart said, "They're asleep!".

"Who cares?!", Light Cloud said, "Lets get in there and kill them!"

"Cloud! Calm down! It wouldn't be fun to kill a sleepy pony. They wouldn't feel anything. Plus, we still have to get some weapons".

"Oh, right. But tomorrow, we're going in there for sure! My patience is expiring heavily, and if I wait one more day, I'm going to flip out". Flutterheart and Light Cloud flew off, ready for what they were going to do the next day.
