The Beautiful Thing Called Singing
The begging
The bell rang loudly from the intercom over the head of several high school students. They all rushed out into the hallway knowing that it was the end of school. However I stayed behind picking up my things rather slowly.
“Applejack!” The low voice of my last teacher of the day called from the board which he was currently cleaning off.
“Yes.” I responded.
“Are you alright?” The teacher asked in that teacher voice that showed they didn’t care what was the matter with you but had to ask you because they’re a teacher.
“Yea ah’m fine. Ah was just bout’ to leave.” I said getting up from my desk and heading towards the hallway. “By’ Mr. Howal.” I left the room but only to be surrounded by an unpleasant atmosphere.
“Hey!” Soarin called. “Why don’t you get the hell out of here you country hick!” He insulted as I passed him. I got similar insults as I made my way to my locker and for some reason they always seemed to come from the guys on any sport team. It irritated me greatly but I wasn’t going to fight back because I didn’t want to risk getting in trouble with the teachers.
I finished getting what I needed from my locker, which included my hat. It made me sad that I couldn’t wear it during the time I was at school but any other time I would defiantly and I mean defiantly wear it. I made my way down the rest of the hallway rather quickly because I had to pick up Applebloom and I was already late. I exited the building went over to my blue truck and jumped in.
Shortly after I was at the elementary school and when Applebloom saw my truck she climbed in. Applebloom was a fifth grader and I was a sophomore. I have an older brother as well but he doesn’t go to school. If he did he would be a college student but he couldn’t get into one because of our finical problem. I mean we earn money by selling apple products of a wide range. But when we got the money it was all spent on bills, food, repairing things, and gas. The money we gain from selling our products only last about two seasons, which are autumn and winter. That was good since both those two season are the cold ones.
But this year was difficult for us. My family and I had to move because the other farm we lived on was damaged beyond belief. We had a big storm and it took out our barn where we kept our animals so we ended up having to move. But really the only thing about moving that bothered me was the school changing, other than that I was completely ok with it. So moving cost us a lot of money and right now we were in the middle of winter with barley any money. I had to get another job and look after the farm with my brother, Big Mac.
I dropped off Applebloom at the front of the farm and she rushed inside. Once she was gone I threw my backpack in the passenger seat and put my hat on. I had to drive fast but not over the speed limit if I was going to get to my job in time.
Ever since I got here everything was rushed and I always ended up with a bundle of stress at the end of each day. I even have to deal with the stupid and immature high school students who insult me just for the hell of it. Well I don’t care anyway; they’re just guys who don’t understand the meaning of being mature for their age. After a 30 minute drive I finally pulled in the parking lot of “The Industry of Bright Apples” I walked in the front door and waited for my manager.
“Applejack!” I heard a familiar feminine voice call as she waved at me. I waved back at her and she soon was in front of me. “Sorry…I… was looking out for the new person…who…just got hired today…” She said while trying to catch her breath.
“It’s mighty fine Rainscratch. But may Ah ask who this new person’s name might be?”
“Yeah. She’s called Dash but her real name’s Rainbow. I’m glad you’re interested in the newcomer. Are you thinking about getting along with her?”
“Well shoot Rain course’ Ah want to get along with her. It’s better to know more people here anyway.”
“Yep that’s true. Now how about we get you to your singing lessons.”
“Sure.” I responded then we made our way to the practice rooms. Yep, my other job is being a singer. Ever since I was just a little a kid people would say I had such a good singing voice. Of course I liked hearing the complements they gave me because back then I would sing whenever I had the chance. But I never really thought I actually would become a singer. Also when I was in middle school I had a lot of people say I could be a model too but I would never do that. I don’t even why they would say that but I guess they said it because of my body and looks. My pale blonde hair and emerald eyes are the 2nd and 3rd reasons as to why the stupid guys thought I should be a model. But there is one other reason they would tell me that and that is because of my breast. Even in middle school they were bigger than most girls. They were cup size C and now they’re a D. But believe me I hate those perverted boys who always are looking at them, and that’s why I asked Big Mac to help me learn some moves so that if anyone of them tried to touch me I could easily break their arm. Another reason is Applebloom, she’s my adorable little sister and I don’t want anyone to hurt her so I’ll use those skills when it comes to that as well.
“Alright Applejack take it from the top.” Rainscratch said once I was behind the mike. I nodded at her and then I started to sing. I heard my voice echo off the walls and I smiled. I really like to sing. It’s so fun and takes my mind off things that were lingering there before.
Just I was about to reach the middle of my song the door burst opened and my attention got drawn to it. Rainscratch was surprised as well as a rainbow haired girl looked from me to her. She was confused; you could see that much on her face. “Sorry about that.” She looked at me, “and awesome voice you have there.” She smirked then left the room leaving Rain and me even more confused than when she burst through the door.
“Do you know who that was?” I asked Rain.
“Certainly, she’s the new person I mentioned before.” She smiled happily, her eyes sparkling.
“Hmm, she seems like a good person to meh but will she be alright in this here industry?”
“Yeah, I’m sure she’ll be fine anyway let’s get back to work.”
“Sure.” I agreed then resumed my singing practice.
Several hours passed and I was finally leaving to go home. “Applejack be careful driving home!” The black haired girl waved at me from the automatic glass doors.
“Ah will and Rain, you be careful as well, you hear!” I waved back at her as I made my way back to my truck.
“Sure thing!” Those were the last words I heard before I hopped in my truck and drove home. It was late, almost 11 o’clock to be exact. I knew exactly what I was going to do when I got home, sleep. I could take my shower in the morning since I got up early to feed the animals anyways.
I finally made it home and just like I told myself earlier, I went to bed. However before I knew it, it was already morning. I didn’t want to get up but I knew I needed to so I did and did all the things necessary that I needed to do to get ready for another long day.
It was now nine and I walked into the classroom and took my seat waiting for the teacher to start the lecture. Soon enough he did and I got my notebook out and listened to what he was teaching intensely. But my writing stopped at the outrage of the door bursting open and a girl speaking.
“I’m sorry I’m late. I was playing video games and just lost track of time.” The girl said rather calm and cool sounding voice.
“Yes, yes Ms. Dash just take your sear.”
“Sure.” The girl made her way back to the seat next to me. She got out her notebook and then looked at me. “Hey, do you have a pencil I could…” Her voice trailed off as her eyes went wide, mine doing the same. This girl in front of me was the newcomer at the industry.
