Dreaming of Ponies

‘Where am I…?’ A small girl found herself floating on a bed of thin air. Darkness surrounded her entire being.
Awaken.
‘Who’s that?’ She heard a voice that sounded feminine.
Find the path.
‘What path?’ The girl thought, incredulously.
Save *BZZT* Equestria.
The raven-haired girl found herself standing upright now. There was still utter darkness surrounding her but she didn’t feel alone. She decided to take a step forward, wherever ‘forward’ was.
Just as her foot touched the black surface, a beam of light appeared where her foot touched. The bright light shrunk into a light glow as it hummed. After a few seconds, the light danced around her foot before performing erratic maneuvers around the floor.
The purple light formed a snaky trail before it hit something. Another burst of light appeared at the end of the trail, the short girl could see a dome of purple light out in the distance as it quickly shrunk back into the darkness.
The path is a risky one. Do you dare follow it?
It was that voice again. She ignored it as she ran towards the other light, following the glowing trail that was left behind in the darkness.
Once she got there, she was amazed to see a creature laying at the end of her path. It was curled up in a ball and was furry. Purple, and furry. She didn’t know of any mammals that had such a strange color for a full coat.
“Are you okay?” The girl walked closer to the creature—A pony she realized. This small creature was so…cute, for a lack of a better word. She had always liked furry creatures but this one took the cake, it almost looked like it was a person like her.
The pony was unconscious, by the looks of it. She, it was most definitely a female of the equine species from the looks of it, was breathing in a pained breath.
She reached out to touch the small creature but found an invisible force blocking her from coming any closer.
To save others you must first sacrifice yourself.
The darkness vanished as it was replaced by something more. An image of the purple mare was shown, smiling and surrounded by others like her. This little pony, she realized, had a horn atop her head.
A magical horse like in the legends: A unicorn.
You may find yourself standing alone in the darkness.
The entire scene was washed away like it was a wet canvas, the colors mixing into a swirl of colors before momentarily turning black, again. Now, the purple unicorn was standing in a crumbling castle, she laid on her belly as she started crying, alone.
But know that no darkness can destroy your bonds.
The scene didn’t change this time. The unicorn was still crying. A giant rock was falling over her head and was threatening to crush the small pony. A burst of rainbows appeared just as the ceiling piece hit the floor with a crash.
After the smoke cleared, the unicorn found herself held on to by a winged pony with a blue coat and a mane and tail of different spectrums. The two were later joined by several other ponies, each their own colors. All were smiling.
The other five ponies were probably her friends, the raven girl smiled.
Choose your path.
This time, the human found herself back near the unconscious pony. Three beams of light appeared on the floor like before. One connected her with the pony. Another went to a window that showed a world of light. And the last showed flames and agony.
The life of an individual over many.
The world of paradise hidden behind deceit.
Or the destruction of all things that gives you grief.
‘This is a no brainer.’ The raven-haired girl thought with a smile.
She started to walk towards the pony.
Are you sure?
Choose this path and you lose the others.
No paradise will begot, the world will be in its chaotic cycle.
No vengeance will be fulfilled, the world would be left without justice.
‘The world is fine as it is. We can make paradise what we will.’ The girl smiled, ‘Tempting as it is to take the laws into my own hands, I have no right to decide justice, either.’
The girl continued on her path towards the unicorn.
The path of an individual over many, a great sacrifice.
The path of Love.
Love faces many trials and hardships.
It is no easy path.
With Love comes great feelings: Magic.
A magic in all living things.
Even though the voice would only speak every now and then, the girl felt that the voice had ‘left’ for good.
“Are you hurt?” The girl bent down to the unicorn and asked.
The creature stirred out of its unconsciousness and looked at her with slow blinking eyes. The creature seemed a bit confused as it raised its head to look at its surroundings.
“It’s okay, I’m not gonna hurt you.”
“Who are you?” The girl almost fell back when the magical pony spoke to her.
“I’m Roxane Aki.” She shook away her surprise and answered the weak unicorn.
“I’m Twilight Sparkle.” The unicorn smiled, weakly. There was something wrong with the unicorn, she could tell. “I like your name.”
Roxane blushed when the pony told her that. A few people told her that they liked her name but for some reason when the pony said this it struck a cord in her.
Suddenly, Twilight started screaming before white magical chains appeared. One had a collar and snapped around her neck, the smaller ones each took hold over each of her legs. The chains sunk down hard, pulling Twilight with her belly onto the floor, preventing her from standing up.
“Twilight!”
“Roxane, run! It—”
The unicorn was interrupted as a pair of blue eyes appeared in front of the human. “Roxy! Wake up!”
“AAAHH!” Roxane screamed as she shot out of her bed, hitting the blonde girl near her. Their foreheads collided together, forming a large bruise.
“Ow!” The blonde girl whined, nursing her wound.
“What are you doing here?!” Roxane complained to her friend.
“I came to wake you up, duh!” The other girl, Iris ‘Megan’ Durante, said with a huff. “You were sleeping like a log. I kept calling out to you!”
“No wonder I didn’t wake up,” Roxane growled. “If it’s you, anybody would want to stay in a coma.”
“Muu~ That’s a mean thing to say to your best friend, Roxy.” Iris puffed out her lips and pouted. Her eyes were watering like you would expect from a small puppy dog who was begging for treats.
“Anyway, you didn’t answer my question.” Roxane said. “What are you doing in my room?”
“It’s the weekend, it’s a Saturday! What’s not to do?” Iris smiled in that ‘not-so-innocent’ smile. “Is it weird to watch your best friend in their sleep for hours on end?”
Even though Roxane knew that she was joking, she turned red in the face with anger. “Iris! Get out of here!”
“Oh? Planning on changing?” Iris smirked with a knowing look. She was answered by a large pillow thrown into her face.

Iris was sitting with her back against the door, smiling. She had her eyes closed in bliss and her arms were crossed behind her. The blonde was whistling a happy tune just as a shorter woman came by the hall.
The woman was lightly pale and had long flowing light brunette hair. “Oh, my. Did you two get into a fight, again?” Asked the middle-aged but still quite young looking woman.
“Hey, mom.” Iris giggled. “Yeah, she’s spunky!”
“Iris, chéri, you are too playful sometimes, you know how serious my dear Roxane is.” The woman, Emeline Aki, waved a finger at Iris. “Just make sure you two play nice.”
“Mom! Don’t encourage her!” They both heard a shout from inside the room.
The two females from outside laughed just as a fully clothed Roxane came out. Roxane was wearing thin black jeans and a dark blue tank top with a picture of a cartoon pony on it.
“There’s my little pony fanatic.”
“I’m not a pony fanatic!” Iris looked at her shirt and smirked making Roxane angry.
“Is it about that dream again?” Emeline asked. “The wounded little pony that you try to rescue?”
“Mom?!” Roxane blushed red, her mom and best friend always tease her about her being in love with Twilight or something. It wasn't like that at all! She wasn't into that whole 'free love' thing and she definitely was against the idea of being in love with a cartoon horse!

“Hahahah!” Iris burst into laughter for a full 5 minutes. People were staring as they walked by the 5’10’’ girl. They were walking along one of those park trails.
“It’s not that funny!” Roxane said with a hush under her breath. She glared daggers at the blonde who just kept on laughing. How her friend managed to walk with her head held high and eyes closed, she would never know. “People are staring!”
“What’s not to laugh about?” Iris sighed, finally stopping to take a breather. She wiped a tear out of her eyes and looked at Roxane, apologetically.
“Remind me again about why you are my best friend?” She groaned as she breathed a breath of relief when everyone went back to their own things and stopped staring.
“We grew up together, I saved you from bullies, and also I like you and you like me. That’s why we’re best friends.” Iris wagged a finger at her.
“What a simple way to say it.” Roxane dropped her arms and complained.
“That’s what best friends are for! Now give me a kiss!” Immediately, Iris found an open hand to her face.
“I don’t get why you joke around so much, people might think we’re like that or something.”
‘Why *can’t we be like that?’* Iris smiled, sadly. Her sadness was quickly washed away as a giant smile that stretched across her face replaced it. “Of course, I’m a kidder! You know me! I’m the number one party-goer!” She felt that it was better that Roxane saw her as playful more than serious. It was easier to accept the pain that way.
“I see that your hair is blonde this time.” The raven said off to the side.
“Oh, you noticed?” Iris giggled. “I felt that blonde brought out the real me.”
“That’s what you said last time, too.” At this, Iris pushed her playfully. “So, where are we going?”
“Well, it’s a Saturday, clear skies, nice sunny day…I was thinking of hanging out at one of those new hip joints where you eat outside!”
“I didn’t know we had anything like that here.”
“You are such a rustic girl! There’s everything in the big city, if you know where to look!”
The two of them were eating out at one of those fancy metropolitan restaurants. The two seemed so out of place, with Roxane dressing in a pretty straightforward especially with the cartoon pony on her tank top, and Iris dressing up like she was going jogging with her sports shorts and cropped t-shirt.
Iris looked like one of those beautiful models with well proportioned bodies and large breasts in a tomboyish way. Actually, her attitude and outlook on life was the only thing that made her not as popular as she could be in their school, not that she wasn’t popular or anything. She was the sort of girl to get out of bed and wash up but not spend time putting on makeup or brushing her hair.
A waitress girl, probably only a few years older than them, came by with their food. One was a bowl of tossed salad and the other was a turkey sandwich with mayo dressing.
“Great! I’m starving!” Roxane drooled at the food and thanked the waitress. She immediately grabbed the sandwich and took savoring bites into it.
“You are eating that like some sort of starved dog.” Iris chuckled slightly as she stuffed a baby tomato into her mouth. “Ever thought of trying to go vegetarian?”
“What? Have a problem with me eating meat?” The shorter girl stared at her blonde friend.
“What? No!” Iris spat out in surprise. “I was just thinking of your health, nothing more. Honestly!”
She loved Roxane and while she couldn’t really stand the thought of eating meat, she was not one of those pushy vegetarians that screamed ‘murderer’ at the sight. Besides, ‘murder’ had little to do with it. It was just that meat disgusted her taste buds, and just watching Roxane eat it was akin to watching someone eat a rotten banana. It left a very bad taste in her mouth.
“Forgiveness?” Iris asked out weakly.
“Forgiveness.” Roxane replied with a shake of her head. “It’s also my fault, I know that you never really liked meat, either. I should have took better consideration in front of you.”
The two friends left the restaurant, with Iris leaving a pretty handsome tip for the waitress not before passing her a sleazy wink. This earned Iris a punch to the shoulder from Roxane, “Stop scaring girls like that! You know how people are about that subject!”
“I’m sorry!” Iris laughed, “I forgot that you are the jealous type! Don’t worry, I’ll always love you the best!” The comment made Roxane blush red but she said nothing more.

The two went their separate ways after coming from an arcade establishment. Roxane was a bit upset that Iris had beat her 10 times at one of those racing car games but it was still fun, overall.
“It’s a bit dark now, isn‘t it?” Roxane couldn’t believe how much time had passed when she hung out with Iris.
Iris was the perky popular girl while she was the more quiet and secluded nobody. Even though Iris had a lot of friends, she barely saw her friend hang out with anybody else.
Was this due to pity because no one else hung out with the weird half-Japanese girl? Was it that she felt inclined because they were childhood friends? Why? She wasn’t sure.
It was a bit depressing thinking about how many friends that she didn’t have besides Iris.
Love is the strongest and weakest path.
“Who said that?”
The path is a treacherous journey that many take but few ever truly succeed in doing.
Many lose their way, others have simply given up.
Can you hold a strong heart in adversity?
Her surroundings turned black. The streets were gone, the lights were gone, even the people were gone. Everything was turned into nothingness!
Find the one called Twilight.
A gigantic glowing purple circle appeared underneath her. Light shot out into the sky as tiny stars were falling around her.
“W-What the heck is going on?!” Roxane cried out as she found her feet sinking into the floor. She struggled to raise her legs but they felt like they were cemented into the ground.
“Help! Anybody!” Her cries went unanswered.
Be wary of the alicorn sisters of Deaths and Dreams as they hold the key.
That was the last thing she had heard before she was completely swallowed up by the darkness.
Elsewhere, there was a cloaked and hooded figure who had watched the entire event unfold from atop a lamppost.
“It is time,” The figure, a woman from her voice, said. “Celestia can you nurture this young girl and let her blossom into her true potential?” The cloaked figure jumped into the air, disappearing as a thin line.
