Her Despair
Twilight sat there in bed for hours until the dawn greyed the autumn sky. Going over how much her life was now changed. Going over how much she had just lost, and how empty she now felt. She started to droop her head as she looked away from her reflection in the full body mirror, it had shown bloodshot and baggy eyes, but the most evident thing was how dead they looked now, there was no bright shine of happiness and a fulfilling life now. Just dull, dark, and dead eyes staring back at her.
Twilight had done many great and wonderful things, but to her they all paled in comparison to one thing...
Becoming a mother...
~
As Twilight enters the library, she yells to Spike not to dare breathe out. He complies, offering to serve supper instead. She agrees but states that she is tired and dirty after a trek through the Everfree and the storm that had happened on her way out. What she didn't tell spike is that she had found a little black alicorn filly, one who had a purple mane and tail and draconian eyes.
Twilight took the then sleeping filly to her bathing room, gently nudging the filly awake. When she awoke and looked to Twilight, who felt anxious under the gaze of such eyes. Twilight told her to get off her back so she could clean up. After a nice bath, Twilight drained the tub and filled it a quarter of the way. She then proceeded to clean the fillies wounds as she bathed, earning slight winces so small they were barely noticed. After the bath and bandaging of the more serious wounds, Twilight took her to her room and placed her on the bed. She then told the filly to wait, going downstairs where Spike was just finishing up another pot of celery soup at Twilights earlier request. She grabbed a bowl and a sandwich, which she took to her room to the filly.
Twilight then left to give spike the news.
After a long argument and a nearly sent letter, she explained to Spike why the filly should be allowed to stay. After a bribe and a thank you, she returned to see a empty bowl and plate, and a patiently waiting filly.
Twilight then proceeded to ask the filly questions about generalities of Equestria, she was answered with nods and shakes of a little black and purple head, it took Twilight a little bit to notice that each question accompanied a small welling of tears. It nearly broke her composure but she had to continue, if this filly was who Twilight thought she was... she needed to ask one final question...
"Do you know your name?" It was a simple question, with a simple answer, an answer that is as much to most ponies as their lives. And the filly had no answer as she shook her head hard and quietly broke down into sniffles and small sobs.
That broke Twilights heart... Seeing a filly cry due to what she had done, she quickly went to the fillies side and hugged her.
After half an hour, of quiet sniffles and sobs, the filly calmed down and was nestled against Twilight as she had moved to her position to one that felt safe and warm. "Feeling better?" Twilight asked the filly.
"Y-yes" the filly replied with a beautiful voice Twilight didn't expect.
"That's good" Twilight said as she looked at the time. "It's getting late, we should get to bed." She had started to move off the bed.
"C-can I s-sleep here?" The filly asked with hopeful eyes tinged with doubt and worry.
"Are you sure?"asked Twilight, unsure as to whether or not to let the filly sleep with her. She debated this until the filly nodded with a shy expression.
"Yes, Miss Unicorn. I want to sleep here... If it's ok with you..." She said as she shrank and her voice demurred.
At that twilight realized she hadn't told the filly her name."It's Twilight Sparkle, and yes it is ok with me."she said as she prepared a place for the filly. After completing the task, she gestured to the small blue blanket with moons and stars on it along with the smaller pillow that had small purple stars adorning its surface."You sleep here, next to me" she said patting the bed next to her.
The filly squirmed under the warm blanket, after awhile twilight was almost asleep when she heard the melodic voice of the filly call her name...
"Miss Twilight... D-do you want m-me to leave in the m-m-morning" The Filly asked scared of the answer.
"Wh-what of course not!" Twilight snapped awake at the question."What makes you ask that!?" She asked bewildered.
"It's just that when you saw me in the bush you were really angry at me." The filly said as she pressed against Twilight."I just thought that if you were angry with me then I should leave in the morning."
"No! Of course you can stay, I just thought you were some pony else is all." Twilight answered quickly.
"Really! I-I can stay,?" The filly asked hopefully.
"I already said you can didn't I? Twilight said matter-of-factly.
"Thank you! Thank you for letting me stay!" The filly exclaimed.
"Of course, now come on let's get to sleep." She chuckled.
"Um... M-miss Twilight?"
"Yes?"
"C-can you tell me a story? Please? I can't get to sleep. Maybe a story would help." The filly asked, unable to sleep after having slept on Twilights back for three hours.
"Oh, that's a good idea, I have the perfect story too!" Twilight stated. Hovering over a book called 'Nyx of the Night'.
After reading half the book the filly fell asleep against Twilights side."Nyx, I like that name... Maybe I should name you that" she said as the filly on question shifted her head into the crook of Twilights forelegs."Yeah, Nyx is a good name for you and it fits you perfectly too!" Twilight exclaims quietly.
Twilight tears up as she remembers that first night...
