Chapters ~Carmella's POV~
The warmth of the sunlight danced across my muzzle and creeped up to my eyes, carefully and tenderly nudging them open, slowly waking me. I bent my forelegs and propped myself up on them, scanning my lilac colored room for my calendar. Upon finding it, and circling today's date, I wriggled from in between the sheets, the comfort of the blankets tempting me into a few more moments of rest. My sleep was a bit uncomfortable. My real bed was being shipped off to a small cottage in Ponyville. I was moving from my hometown of Fillydelphia, all the way to Ponyville. I didn't go from point A straight to Ponyville, though. Currently, I've stationed myself in Manehattan with my younger sister, Dulcy. She's a sweetheart, but she can drive me up the walls sometimes. But hey, that's with all younger siblings, right?
To get back to moving, I was leaving Manehattan today at noon to my new cottage. The exact location of the cottage? I had no idea, but I yearned for a lot placement close to the edge of town, just by the Everfree Forest, but no luck with that idea. Somepony else had that spot. I didn't know whom exactly yet, but I didn't really care that much. Someplace in the middle of the town is better than nothing.
Using a small portion of my already non-existent energy, I focused on my bedspread and the sheets, and a white and yellow aura surrounded the objects. I folded them up in a neat little rectangle and levitated them over a box, then dropped them inside. I put my hoof over my mouth as I let out a loud yawn. I'm not really a morning pony like my sister. I still don't understand why she's so bright and chipper at the crack of dawn. Speaking of which, right upon mentioning her, she bounded into my room with a cheesy smile plastered upon her face.
"Need any help packing? I'd love to help!" She chimed, her high-pitched and happy voice ringing in my ears. I put my hooves over them and spoke softly. "Calm down." Dulcy looked at me, perplexed. Finally understanding that I was still adjusting to the morning, she nodded her head and trotted over to a stack of boxes I had set up in front of a magnetic mirror. Did I mention that the paint I used for my wall was magnetic? Pretty neat, huh?
"Sis, you really need to straighten up your mane. It's all frazzled like some mangy cat was nesting in it." Dulcy spoke, cringing at my unsightly mane and levitating my hairbrush over to me. "Gee. Thanks." I hissed, brushing my mane into something a bit less messy.
"Much better." Dulcy beamed. Upon taking a second glance at my mane, she spoke again. "You know, you should consider having that as your permanent hairstyle. It suits you." "Oh wow. This is coming from a pony with a scruffy looking braid as an everyday style." "That's because messy manes are in, and because this one looks terrific on me." I gave a soft chuckle. "True." I said, tossing some knick-knacks into a box behind me and admitting my defeat in our friendly debate.
Dulcy and I had finished packing up my things for my big move, and were downstairs eating breakfast together. Dulcy had a simple sausage and egg sandwich on a bagel, (more like six of them since she likes to eat) while I had waffles and a slice of toast with scrambled eggs and orange juice. I had to make sure I had enough sustenance to last me the long journey from Manehattan to Ponyville. To be honest, I was excited to move. I had planted the idea in my head that traveling there would be a good experience for me since I'm an aspiring novelist and poet.
With my labeled boxes loaded up in my wagon, I strapped the harness around my waist and got to walking. Dulcy offered a helping hoof which I gladly accepted. Not even the strongest workhorse could pull this much stuff along with him for four-thousand miles! Cautiously, I stepped forward with my front left hoof, then the other. I walked as slowly as ever, not to cherish every last bit of Manehattan I could, but to keep from rolling and sliding out of control down the oncoming hill.
Again, I stepped slowly, the cobblestone path I was treading trying ever so desperately to veer my cart, my sister, and I out of control. Dulcy and I stepped a bit faster, as the cobblestone was clearing out, and the hill began to level out as well. We broke out into a full on gallop to try to speed up the journey. But when you're traveling four-thousand miles by hoof, that's a tad bit difficult.
"Did you.. bring any... snacks?" Dulcy asked me between her exhausted pants and gasps for air. "No, but we're going to be passing what looks like a funnel cake stand in a moment. Will that do?" "Got any money?" "No, I decided to move to an entirely different town with no money." I retorted, my magic holding up a small burlap sack of bits. Dulcy startled me as she broke out into a heart-racing gallop to reach the stand. I struggled to keep up with her, so I occasionally flapped my wings to give myself the advantage of a speed boost.
"You can't really do that while we're hooked up to the same cart!" I screamed. Dulcy nodded at me and slowed down as we conveniently reached the stand. "My mistake, Dulcy. It's cotton candy, not funnel cakes." "Whatever works!" She chimed, passing the salespony three bits. "Two please." "What flavor? I've got green apple, strawberry, blue raspberry, grape, orange, lemon, raspberry, fruit punch, and my personal favorite, sour black cherry." Dulcy's eyes seem to go wild as she scanned over each flavor. "I'll take green apple. Carmella, you want something?" "Sour black cherry." I said, nudging the bits on the counter a bit forward. Knowing Dulcy the way I do, there was a slight probability that she'd swipe the bits once we got our concessions. It's a filthy trick our father, Maximillion the Unicorn taught her. Our mother never approved, but she did try her best to prevent me from also getting corrupted. Good on ya, mom.
Pleased with her snack, Dulcy finally marched forward, munching her cotton candy intermittently like me. We came upon a road sign. "Ponyville - 3,050 Miles Northwest ~ Los Pegasus - 65 Miles East." Dulcy read. "I'm getting pretty sore from all this walking." "Why don't we stop by what motel up ahead? It's oddly convenient in a cartoony sense, but it'll do, correct?" "Yeah, I guess you're right. But I really want to make it to Ponyville by the end of the day." I half-whined. Dulcy looked at her wristwatch. "Then we have six hours to get there." "Then let's hoof it!" I cheered, rearing up for a hard gallop in the direction of my targeted location.
A Hearty Welcome To Ponyville
~Carmella's POV~
Tiredly, I walked over to my door. "Who is it?" I flung open my door to see a pink pony standing at my door with a light pink wagon with balloons on it. She was trotting, or rather bounding around in circles and I caught a glimpse of her flank. The balloons on her cart strongly resembled her Cutie Mark. "Are you alright, Ms... Um... Are you alright?" The pink pony with he mane in the style of cotton candy stopped mid-bound and looked a tad confused for a moment before flashing a bright smile and introducing herself. "I'm Pinkie Pie, and I've got a message for you!" "Well, what is it?" She cleared her throat and began singing. "Welcome, welcome, welcome, a fine welcome to you! Welcome, welcome, welcome, I say how do you do?" She then proceeded to blaring a trumpet in my ears, then pranced around banging a drum. "Welcome, welcome, welcome, I say hip-hip hooray! Welcome, welcome, welcome to Ponyville today!" She concluded her song by sliding on her hind legs and raising her forelegs into the air. She sprang back up on all fours. "Wait for it..." "Wait for what?" Her wagon then spat confetti out the oven and cake batter out the confetti blower.
I laughed a bit at the joyful display. "This cake batter's pretty good." I complimented, licking the sprinkle-filled batter off my hoof. "I know, right?" Pinkie Pie giggled. "Well, this certainly was a sweet welcome. I appreciate it, Pinkie Pie! Oh my, you're all sticky, care to come in and clean up?" "Thanks, but I've got this one." She then licked all the the batter off of herself. I laughed and stepped outside my house and cleaned myself off with the water hose.
"Yeesh this stuff's smell lingers!" "I know! It makes you smell like cake frosting all week! Isn't that neat?" Pinkie queried, looking at me with her big blue eyes. "I do say, it's quite pleasant." "Honk!" Pinkie Pie joked, bopping me on the nose with her hoof. "You're such a weirdo, Pinkie. But I mean that in a good sense." I said. "Oh, I almost forgot. What's your name?" "I'm Carmella. I'm from Fillydelphia, but I moved to Manehattan and lived there for a year. I moved to my final, and permanent destination of Ponyville three days ago." I stated proudly.
"Gee wilikers, that's a lot of purple in there!" Pinkie said, trotting inside this tired Alicorn's home. "Uh, Pinkie?" "Yes, Carmella?" Pinkie responded, turning on the TV. "Do you mind coming back later? I'm still pretty tired from unpacking." Pinkie gave her smile and an "Okey Dokey Lokey!" and bounded away, out of my house, and back through Ponyville.
"How interesting, that Pinkie Pie is..." I thought aloud, my magic snatching my journal and inspirinational guide off of the polished chrome bookcase beside the dark wire model of the Eiffle tower mounted on my wall.
~Pinkie Pie's POV~
To celebrate the newcomer Carmella, I decided to throw a little party at her home to surprise her. It would be a Pie-Style Housewarming party! Although I never understood why they're called housewarming parties. Do we bring blankets? I'll bring some just in case. I laughed at my own little joke while I trotted to Rarity's boutique, my saddlebags jiggling a little. When I pushed the door open, the little silver bell in the doorframe made its little tinkling sound and Rarity came out of her workroom, bespectacled as usual.
"Howdy, Rarity!" "Pinkie Pie, thank goodness. Business has been awfully slow, I was hoping for a customer, and here you are! What can I get you?" "I need a super awesome fantastic dress for the newcomer to Ponyville!" "And who might that be? I may have seen them in Canterlot when I was away." "Nah, you don't know her. She's an ex-Manehattanite." "A M- Manehattanite? What's her style? What's she into? Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me!" Rarity blurted.
"I dunno." I said with a simple shrug. Rarity bit her lower lip and butted me out the store. "Well then find out, and don't come back until you do!" Rarity ordered. Understanding Rarity's nature, I just sprinted back over to Carmella's house to find a note on the door.
On my way to Carousel Boutique and peruse the town.

~Carmella
I sighed. "I was just over there!" I said, sprinting back to the Boutique. Once again the bell tinkled upon my entrance. And there they were, Rarity and Carmella, talking over something. I tried to squeeze my way into the convo, but they were just immersed in their words. "It seems that I forgot my saddlebags when I moved. Could you make me some more, Rarity?" "For a Manehattanite, of course!" The white unicorn gave a little curtsey. Carmella laughed. "Did Pinkie Pie come over here earlier?"
"She most certainly did. Why do you ask?" "It's just that I told her I was an ex-Manehattanite and she got all excited. What I didn't tell her was that my parents are both from Canterlot." "C- Canterlot? I've always wanted to live there, and I temporarily did once." "When?" "I was working on an ensemble for a friend and needed some high-end material." "Ah, I see." "Back to the saddlebags, what color did you want them in?" "White with a grey laced border." "And your cutie mark as the design for the pouch fasteners, right?" Rarity asked, sketching the design on a sheet of parchment. "Of course. Eh- I would love that, but that might be an issue." Carmella said, dragging out the O in the beginning of her speech.
"Oh darling, please tell me that you're not serious." "I'm not." The Alicorn proved her little joke as a joke by exposing her flank from her thicket of a mane. "Isn't it charming? It symbolizes my multiple creative talents." It was a pink neon paint splattered bouquet with a quill and a scroll, silver and white flowers, blueprints, a cassette tape, and a sketchpad all jumbled together inside. I thought it was pretty awesome! "Alrighty then, I'll deliver your Saddlebags tomorrow afternoon." "Sounds great. Thanks a million, Rarity." The alicorn said, exiting the shop. I waited for the bell to ring, signaling the closing of the door before I spoke. "Hey Rarity, that's perfect timing!" Pinkie Pie said. "What is?" Rarity said, a bit startled by my sudden appearance. "The saddlebag delivery! Remember the dress I asked you for? It's a gift for Carmella's housewarming/welcome to Ponyville party!" "Oh dear, I forgot the dress. Considering the things I learned about her today, she's really into sparkly things like me. I'll create the best dress I possibly can... A dazzling red dress with silver and gold accents and matching golden shoes. Doesn't that sound spectacular?" "It does! Well, thanks for the dress and the shoes. I'll be by to pick them up tomorrow." I said gleefully. "Okay..." Rarity managed, her voice a bit tired from the anticipated workload.
Maybe I should offer to help her after I get the party supplies...
(At Sweet Apple Acres)
"Applejack!" I called in a sing-song voice. "Oh, Pinkie Pie. What brings you 'round these parts?" She said, crossing her forelegs. "Oh, I need a barrel of your finest spiced apple cider, and another barrel of the sweetest stuff you can get." "An' why's that?" AJ queried, tipping her hat. "I'm throwing a housewarming for a newcomer to Ponyville!" "Well that's just splendid, Pinkie Pie. Ah'll see what ah can do. " The southern mare complied with my request and headed off to get some buckets for the apples and got to bucking. "Cider request, ya'll!" Applejack called. "One last thing AJ." I said, zipping over to her side. "An' that is..." She said quizzically. "If you have any leftover Zap Apple Jam that would be great if you could get that out, too." "I'm a might sorry, Pinkie. We ain't got none." "Uh, yes we do." Applebloom said, pointing over to a table holding two serving trays of the rainbow spread. "Oh. Well then. Nevermind, Pinks." "Yay! How much?" "Four bits a tray." Applebloom suggested. "You got a deal!" I said, tossing the little filly eight bits and divvying the jars evenly before loading them into my saddlebags. "The party's tomorrow at noon. Hope you can make it!" I called, bounding out the gates of the charmingly quaint farm.
(The Next Day)
~Carmella's POV~
My scheduled hunt for an artsy job was later today, so I wanted some time to relax at home for a moment. Much to my horror... When I opened the door... There she was. A roommate. "What in Equestria is going on here?" I fumed. "Oh, hey there, roomie." "Out of my cottage, now! I don't know who you are, but get out of my cottage before I hurt you." I lowered my body and huffed through my nose. "I'll do it!" I warned. The yellow mare on my couch just laughed. "I'm your roommate, Spitfire." She stuck out her hoof and smiled. My ears fell back, yet I still shook her hoof. "I'm Carmella Holloway. What are you doing in my home?" "Our home." She corrected. "Anyhow, why are you in here? I bought this house with my own money and decorated it myself, ya know. Where were you, Ms. Spitfire?" "Doing some Wonderbolts training excersies." "Well..." I huffed again. "Explain yourself completely!" "The pony who sold you this house is a con-stallion. He sold this house at the same time you, me, Carrot Top, Cheerilee, and our other roomy bought it." "So my money went where?" "We got back every last bit, but since most of the other places in town are owned, we decided to split it. You did pay for it first, though." "Then get out." I gritted my teeth and scraped my hoof against the ground, itching to charge at her.
"Spitfire! Stop messin' around!" Dulcy said from behind. "Hey, sis. Look... I got you this house and these roommates so you could socialize more. No cons. No money-funnies. Nothin'." Dulcy truthfully spoke. "What?" I fell on my back, shocked from having to share a house. "Exactly how many other ponies are there?" "Well, there's Cheerilee, and she's at work..." Spitfire put a hoof to her chin. "A source of income..." I said under my breath. "Then there's Carrot Top, and she's selling carrots at the market... That's two." "Another source of income, too." I mumbled. "And then there's that unicorn... What was her name?" Spitfire floated in midair, trying to think. "The unicorn? There's only one magic user in this house an that's me. Anypony else can happily high-tail it outta here." I instantly sprung up and narrowed my eyes, shaking my tail when I said high-tail. "Tanacity? Tubular? Trident?" Spitfire paced around mid-air, trying to think of the name. "Tri... Tripolar?" Dulcy guessed. "Twinkle?" Spitfire's guess was another hit and miss. I sighed. "Think of her appearance. Is she green, orange, yellow, white, grey, purple... What?" "She's pale." Dulcy deadpanned. "Okay, so common pastel colors. Pink, green, orange, purple, blue, and-" "BLUE!" Dulcy sprung into the air and did a flip. "She's a blue unicorn!" "So then what's her mane look like?" I queried. "It's got little curls in it and it has streaks. It's light blue and sorta looks white." Spitfire, at this point, did not seem all that bright to me. "Tri... Tri... Her name was a normal Tri name." Dulcy tried again. "Trixie?" I simply said. "Yes!" Spitfire's wings went unto a rapid flap, almost a buzz as she applauded my guess.
"Does she have a job?" I asked, growing uninterested in the pony herself. "Yeah! She's a magician. She's not very good, but she does carnival performances in Fillydelphia and Manehattan." "Not very interesting if you ask me." I trotted over to my lime green corner sofa and lazily slouched into the corner on the right. "Really? I thought you loved hearing about everypony's careers. "That was when I was six. I'm not a filly anymore, Dulcy." I blankly stared into the blackness of the flatscreen TV in the licit room. A soft tapping of a hoof came from the front door. "It's me, Trixie! I went grocery shopping and can't get the door!" "Oh goody. Another pony in my house that I didn't even know existed. What. Bucking. Joy..."
~ Carmella's POV ~
I tied a bandana around my head and put my mane in a messy bun. I trotted up the stairs to my room to fetch my drafting board and my fabric swatches. "I'll make the basement walls pink and do... Wooden floors." I did a rough sketch of the basement on my drafting board. I crafted the picture of posh pinkness by accenting the drawing with spots of blue and orange. The walls were to be painted pink and the floors a nice wood. Soft maple wood, to be exact. A piano would go in the corner of the room, and a green shag rug in the center of the room. As a finishing touch, I'd throw in a chandelier.
Satisfied with my sketch, I wrangled up the supplies needed for decoration. Picture frames, magnetic paint, a circular wooden frame, a few paintbrushes, a slab of wood, and a chisel. For starters, I had to put in the flooring, so off to my attic I went to fetch the wood planks. I coated the concrete floor with glue and placed the planks on the floor. I added some moulding on the lower half of the walls and painted them white. The rest of the walls were painted a light shade of pink. As any smart pony would, I left the basement to let it air out. Paint fumes are not pleasant. I left the house to pick up a silvery-blue chandelier from the light shop in town.
I nudged the door open with my nose and a light switch clicking noise sounded. "How charming." I giggled. "Hey there!" The pony at the front desk greeted. A handsome stallion with a wondrous lemon coat and ice blue eyes waved at me. His thick mane was a radiant golden yellow. "Welcome to Gleam-N-Glow Lighthouse! I'm Sunset Gleam, hoe may I help ya?" For a moment, my legs went weak. "I'm looking for a chandelier that gives off a silvery-blue light. A large crystal one. Think you got it?" I asked.
"Let's see here... Chandeliers are in the back, follow me and we'll see what I can do." The gleeful unicorn trotted off to the back of the store, and I absent-mindedly walked behind him. I'm used to playing follow-the-leader. "Here we are! A silver drop-down crystal chandelier." He pressed a button in the wall with his hoof. "Is that the kind of light you're looking for?" I beamed. "I'll take it!" "56 bits." "Wow, you charge cheap for such wonderful light fixtures." "I make everything myself, so I like to charge half of what it cost to make it." Sunset explained.
"Well, Sunset Gleam, I enjoyed your service! Thank you so much for the assistance." "So where do you need this delivered to?" "My cottage. 247 Rainbow Drive." "Sunset Gleam gently lowered the chandelier into the box with his blue magic aura and hoisted the parcel onto his back.
"Shall we go then?" Sunset asked. "Oh, of course. And don't carry that box all by yourself." I slipped under the box and helped even out the weight Sunset had to carry. We walked out of the store through the wide double-doors in the back, and through town.
Sunset Gleam and I had a nice chat on the way to my home. "Is this it?" He asked, positioning himself to lower the box. "Yep." I held the door open with my magic and levitated the box inside my home. "Need any help putting it up?" Sunset wasn't asking. He was offering, and I couldn't say no to such a precious face. "I do, actually." I half-lied. He limbered himself up and came inside the cottage, drinking in my decorations. "Who in Equestria did this?" "I did..." I bashfully admitted. "You're pretty good." He complimented.
"You schmooze." I laughed lightheartedly, heading down the stairs. "This house seems awfully large for one pony." "That's because it's not. I have some roommates, but they're out of the house for now while I finish the basement." I opened up the box. Sunset Gleam hooked up all the wires and put in a new light switch.
"Now just set the chandelier up and you'll be good." Sunset stood on the box and levitated the light fixture out of it. "And... It's done." The yellow unicorn simply flattened the box and whisked it away with her magic. "I'll be on my way." Ge said, leaving my home. I smiled to myself. "He's so precious." I giggled.
I then busied myself with furnishing the room. A white leather mattress sofa across from the window, an easel, beanbag, and a bookshelf and a lamp went into the corner. Lastly, I had to carve out the table for the lamp. Groggily, I pulled out the large slab of wood and a chisel. "Let's get this over with..." I complained, chipping off the first corner, the starting gun figuratively being fired in the distance.
To highlight the previous events, I travelled 4,000 miles by hoof to get to Ponyville, unpacked, decorated, furnished, painted, improved and spruced up my new home, and I am exhausted. After unpacking my stuff and settling in, I consider this the time to officially move into a town, and guess what? It's my very first day in Ponyville and I already know somepony I can talk to freely. Her name's Pinkie Pie. She showed up at my doorstep with a wagon and sang a random song outta nowhere and splattered the both of us with cake batter and confetti! She's a mighty strange pony, but I truly enjoy her company.
I believe that if I keep hanging around her, I'm going to truly enjoy it here! Ponyville can offer many more opportunities than Manehattan could. I mean no disrespect to the good old Manehattanites, but I deserve better than road rage and snobbish ponies 24/7. Pinkie Pie was my first omen of good fortune here.
I'll enjoy it as much as I can. To sum things up in a word: Great (so far).

~Pinkie's POV~
Lastly, I had to run to my home in Sugarcube Corner and mix up a delicious cake for Carmella's welcome party. But first, I had to get the kitchen prepped up, as well as get washed up. Just up the stairs was the actual house-y part of the bakery. My room, Pumpkin and Pound Cake's room, Mr. and Mrs. Cake's room, the family room, the guest room, the hall closet, the bathroom, and the guest bathroom.
I quickly ventured up the stairs and dropped the Zap Apple Jam in my saddlebags off in the fridge in my room. And before you say anything, remember, I'm Pinkie Pie, whaddaya expect?
My saddlebags were then deposited in my closet and a chef's hat soon adorned my head. My apron's ties were broken, so I'd just have to do without it.
My hoofsies were all washed up, and I helped myself to a snack so I wouldn't eat the cake as I made it. The batter was the same that I used for my welcome wagon, so that was pretty easy to make since I've made it before.
And now that I needed a quick way to make cupcakes with my delectable party batter, I needed to break out in... Song.
"I'm Pinkie and I'm makin' cake and some cookies. They're gonna be so delish, I just know it will be great for my party! Carmella's gonna be so surprised! And I'm excited!"
Lo and behold, the cupcakes and cookies were ready. I stored the cupcakes in an airtight container separate from the cookies so the scents wouldn't mix.
Baked goods- check. Beverages- check. Pinkie Pie's break time- check. I quickly cleaned up the kitchen and prepared myself for bed. Man, this pony is tired.
The Great And Powerful Trixie
~Dulcy's POV ~
Carmella's magic aura surrounded the door as she struggled to shut it. "Mella! Come on, let her in!" I begged, trying to open the door with magic of my own. Slowly, a green sparkling aura formed around my horn and around the front door. I concentrated on the door, a strain building up in my neck. "Let her in!" I gruffly said.
"Never! No more roommates! None!" Carmella sprung from the couch and blocked the door with her body and released her magical hold on the door. The door budged open, a smidgen of Trixie's body peeking through before Carmella kicked the door closed. "No!" She shouted, forming magical locks on the doorframe and the creamy yellow door.
"The eggs are slipping!" Trixie shouted. Carmella then had an "a-ha" face and projected an image of the outside of the house on the wall. "Is that her?" She asked. "Yes!" Spitfire and I agitatedly said. Carmella then removed the magical bolts and opened the door. Trixie nearly fell over, but Carmella an her magic caught her just in time. "Are you alright?" Carmella asked, taking the groceries in her magical grasp and bringing them inside. "Are you alright?" "Yes, I think so." Trixie trotted inside and started to put the groceries away. "Don't worry, I got 'em." The tan Alicorn set all of the bags on the table. "Where's everypony's stuff?" Carmella wondered.
"All of my stuff will be here by tomorrow morning." Spitfire said before anypony else could speak. "My stuff is still being shipped from Manehattan. It should be here by this evening. Say, eleven-ish?" Trixie bashfully said. "No problem. I left the last few rooms in the house unpainted and the carpets still need to be replaced. Everypony can just hang out in the basement until I can get your rooms redone." Carmella clarified, tucking the last of the carrots into the produce bin. "Cheerilee's belongings should be in by four if I'm not mistaken."
I put a hoof to my chin in thought. "And Carrot Top's stuff?" Carmella asked. "Same time." I responded. "Okay then. I'll go ahead and get the paint and stuff ready. You guys go ahead and head out while I plan the basement. I haven't finished it yet." Carmella admitted. "Alright. I'll be in Cloudsdale if anypony needs me."
