All You Have to Do is Take a Cup of Flour, Add it to the Mix

Marzipan Rumroll, a magic dessert with relatively poor social skills, made her way down the street. She was meeting with all her friends today. First she was visiting the beautiful and generous Divinity at her boutique, then meeting with Cupcakes, the pink party cake that was friends with everyone. After that she would see Applecrisp, the dessert of honesty. Then there was Butter Roll, the kindest dessert, and Rainbow Cake who was loyal to your hips. Those two tended to fly right off the shelves.

Marzipan Rumroll couldn't be happier with her life in Panettoneville. All the other sweets were laughing and playing together, having tons of fun. There was Mr. Waffle, the elderly but nice preacher. He was always out on walks, enjoying the nice weather. There weren't many Panettonevillians quite as old as he, that's for sure.

When Marzipan got to Divinity's boutique she found the fluffy egg-white confection working on her latest creation—another shiny glacé. It shimmered in the light, the minuscule sugar crystals throwing off tiny rainbows from their tiny prismatic formations. So cute! Marzipan and Divinity set off together, they were going to have a wonderful picnic once they gathered up all their friends.

Next they went to Sprinklemena Cupcakes' gingerbread house where she baked treats for everybready to enjoy. She knew they were coming ahead of time because of her Cupcake sense. She greeted them at the door with a big picnic basket full of delectable baked goods. There were tarts and danishes and donuts and cronuts and brownies and lots of fudge! Fudge! Fudge! Fudge!

The three of them laughed and hugged, and they had to quickly move out of the way as the Confection Mark Crusaders zipped down the street on another quest to find out what kind of dessert they would be when they were finished. Divinity waved to her sister Sweetie Ball and grinned happily. It was so nice to see the two sisters being friendly and no longer estranged like last week after they had that big argument.

Just then, Rainbow Cake and Butter Roll swooped down out of the sky, and the group of five best breads made their way to the picnic grounds, where Applecrisp was waiting and had already set up a table for them. She smiled and the six of them smushed together in a big group hug, little crumbs breaking off and falling everywhere. They were all so happy to be together. Then they—

"Pinkamena Diane Pie, you stop playing with your cake this instant," Pinkie's mom chided.

"Aw, but moooooom—" Pinkie started to object, before a glare from her father stopped her cold. Immediately she put her fork down and stopped pushing around the lifeless cubes of yellowcake.

"You know how it upsets your father and I to see you misbehaving dear, I swear you're going to give him a tumor with all this nonsense," her mother lectured sternly.

"But they were just about to go on an adventure. A friendship adventure," Pinkamena whispered, cowering in her parents' gaze. Her sisters gave her sympathetic looks, but not too sympathetic. The four of them were only permitted one shared Cake Day per year, and they didn't want that curtailed in any way on account of their pink hyper-active sister's imagination.

"Cmon Pinkamena, let's go make sure all our tools are in tip top shape for tomorrow's farming," her eldest sister Inkamena "Irene" Pie suggested.

"Yeah Pinkamena, father knows best and like he always says, 'A tool is only as good as the hoof that wields it,'" added Blinkamena "Bliny" Pie, her second-oldest sister.

And then her youngest sister chirped up in a tiny voice, "I wan' mo' cake!" Ah, Dot, barely older than a foal. She just spoke her first word last week. It was "rock." Her father shed a tear that day, and Pinkamena couldn't remember seeing him ever cry before, nor since.

Together the three ambulatory fillies excused themselves politely and made their way to their shared room, ostensively to check up on the status of their various picks and hammers. But really they were going to play together and talk about what they would do when they grew up and left the rock farm. Dot was a lifer, she was going to inherit the farm someday, they all just knew it for sure.

Inky and Blinky though, couldn't wait to get as far away from rocks as possible. They both wanted to go to separate coasts, where the rocks of the sea were eternally smashed down into imperceptibly small grains of sand. Inky wanted to move to Las Pegasus and be a famous model, or a singer. And her house would be by the beach where she could watch the waves crash brusquely into the coast.

Blinky wanted to move to a big city, either Baltimare, Fillydelphia, or Manehattan, and go into business as a civil waterworks engineer, helping the pegasi that moved water to the big cities redistribute it to every thirsty or dirty pony that needed it. It was always a fascination she had, as getting dirty and thirsty out in the rock fields always frustrated her more than anything.

But Pinky's dream was to one day be a baker. Rather than move really far away, she simply had what amounted to be the diametrically opposed specialization in mind. She wanted to create, not destroy. And she would make sweet things to eat, something you couldn't say the same of when it came to the rocks they spent hours moving from one field to another.

As the sun sank down over the horizon and the sky turned twilight, she saw the moon rise and the stars start to sparkle, and she made a wish right then.

I wish me and my sisters can one day find true happiness, and make other ponies happy and have lots of friends an' go on adventures and not have to do anything with rocks anymore ever again, her wish rapidly becoming a run-on thought in her head.

An errant meteor razed across the skyline, though nopony thought to look just there and see it before it winked out of sight.

The next day, many miles away, a young cyan pegasus woke up to greet the day, completely unaware that her status as "Most Awesomest Coolest Flyer Forever Infinity Plus One No Addsies No Cancels" would be challenged that afternoon. How could she or anypony know that she would have a fantastic race that day that would send ripples throughout all Equestria...
