Temporary Home
Summary: Inspired the second chorus of the song "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood. Scootaloo and her twin sister, Emerald Glow, live in an abandoned warehouse and give each other strength. Meanwhile, Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle are trying to find out what's going on with their friends after they say the Cutie Mark Crusaders can't have a sleepover at their house.
"Have we tried pillow fighting yet?" Emerald asked the other crusaders.
They were in the Cutie Mark Crusaders Clubhouse. Emerald Glow, the newest member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders and Scootaloo's twin unicorn sister, was keeping a list of suggested ideas as they planned. She had a emerald green coat that had the strange habit of glowing when it was dark. Her short, wavy dirty blonde mane was neatly brushed with most of it in the back and her bangs in the front. Her bright, ambitious eyes that matched her sister seeme to give off the same luminating glow, but didn't. A pair of green circular-lensed glasses sat sat on her nose.
"No, Ah don't think so," Apple Bloom started, "But this reminds me. We are having our sleepover next week but at who's house are we gonna have it?"
"Well, we can't have it at the boutique. Rarity is having the shop redone." Sweetie Belle replied.
"And Apple Buck season starts the next day so we can't do it here." Apple Bloom added, "So I guess this leaves your girls place."
"Sorry, but it can't be at our house either." Scootaloo said as she fidgeted, wearing a nervous smile upon her face, "Grandad, he's-he's..."
Scootaloo struggled to come up with a reasonable excuse as to why they couldn't host the sleepover. Luckily for her, Emy picked up on this.
"Having guests!" she said gritting a smile before nudging her sister.
"Uh, yeah, guests!" Scoot added in a jerked response.
"Well, I guess we will have to reschedule our sleepover then." Sweetie Belle said with a slightly disappointed sigh.
Later that afternoon the meeting had concluded. While the twins were climbing down from the clubhouse, Apple Bloom called Sweetie Belle back.
"Sweetie, Ah'm startin' to get worried about Scoot and Emmy." Apple Bloom spoke softly into her friend's ear, "Ah've noticed that they been acting all weird whenever we mention their grandad."
"Yeah, I was wondering about that too." Sweetie Belle started at the same volume, "Hey, I've got an idea! Let's follow them home! Maybe that will give us some answers."
Apple Bloom nodded in agreement as they slowly left the clubhouse.
The twins were now on their way back to their place of residence, Scoot on her scooter and Emy in the wagon. Little did they know that Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle were perusing them. They lost their two pursers in the town square, though.
Within minutes, they pulled up to an old abandoned warehouse on the edge of Ponyville and got out. Emerald started climbing up a rope as Scootaloo hid her scooter behind the corner before climbing up the rope herself. It amazed Scoot everyday, how her sister went above and beyond what a filly their age could do despite her severe image processing problems. They didn't know how it was possible to be so able when you have lazy eye such as Ditzy piled on along with ten other eyesight problems.
Each filly climbed through a window that was missing a board. In that room of the warehouse lay only an old, tattered quilt and the twin's backpacks.
It was only five in the afternoon but they had little else they could do so they decided to call it a night. They laid down on the cold floor of the warehouse andgot pulled up the quilt before wishing each other sweet dreams.
About a half an hour had passed when Scootaloo turned towards Emerald.
"Emy, you awake?" she said at no more than above a whisper.
"When am I not awake." Emerald replied with a giggle as she turned towards her sister.
"Good point." Scootaloo agreed, shortly accompanied by giggling from both ends of the conversation. Emy used to have to take sleep meds in order for her to fall asleep cause her energy drained out so slowly.
"Do you think we should have told Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle?" Scoot asked moments later after the giggles died out in a completely different tone.
"I don't know." her sister confessed, "On the one hoof they're our best friends; On the other we might b-"
"Be taken away. You know it hurts even more staying silent than anything that has ever happened in our lives. I just wish we could get out of this rut..." Scootaloo finished at a voice just above a whisper.
"Do- Do you think we'll ever get out of this?" Scoot then asked shakily.
"Yes, I feel that this is only temporary." Emy replied with a calm nod of her head, regaining any strength she had left in her body, "In fact, I know a little song about it. Would you like to hear it?"
"Yes, please." replied the orange pegasus gleefuly.
"Ok then." the emerald green unicorn said before clearing her throat and singing, "This is our temporary home. It's not where we belong. Windows and rooms that we're passin' through. This is just a stop, on the way to where we're going. I'm not afraid because I know this is our temporary home."
It wasn't the best singing in the world but it was good enough for Scootaloo to put some of her fears at ease...
...and just loud enough to be heard by the other half of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
"Hey Sweetie Belle, do ya hear that?" Apple Bloom asked her friend.
They had now reached the near edge of Ponyville. Both fillies were shivering as the winter season was well underway. It was looking hopeless until they heard that voice. It was familiar. It was very familiar. It was...
"EMY!" the two fillies hollered in unison before turning around to see the location of the voice.
Behind them, about 10 meters away, stood an old abandoned warehouse.
"...I'm not afraid because I know this is our temporary home."
The two fillies ran toward the building.
"SCOOT! EMY! ARE YOU UP THERE!" called up the white unicorn.
Upon hearing their friends the two sisters jumped out from under their tattered cloth and ran over to the window to see Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom looking back up at them. They quickly scurried down the rope and prepared to face their fellow crusaders.
"Hi girls, we were ju-" Scootaloo started only to be cut off by Sweetie Belle.
"We heard the song." she said in a monotone voice.
This caused Emy and Scoot to turn their heads down towards the earth shamefully.
"We're sorry we didn't tell you earlier." Emy said apologetically.
"Yeah, we're sorry." Scootaloo seconded.
"It's ok." Sweetie Belle said comfortingly.
"Yeah, we just wished ya would of told us," Apple Bloom added, "But Emy, Ah think ya mean this was your temporary home. We ain't lettin' ya stay out here all night so how bout ya come back to Ponyville with us and stay at the farm for the night"
The two fillies graciously accepted their friends offer. Emy went back up to grab the quilt and their backpacks while Scoot got her scooter out from behind the building. They all then rode back to Ponyville and the twins had a new home. They didn't know if it was temporary or not but it was home.
