An archaeological dig is underway in the town of Reinvale, where the ruins of an ancient city were unearthed deep within its gemstone mines. At the request of Princess Luna, and with her friends along for the ride, Twilight Sparkle ventures to the resort to oversee the excavation. It is a simple, harmless task that comes with the benefits of what seems like a luxury vacation for the group of friends.

However, when sudden night terrors warn Twilight of the secrets that lie not only within the ruins, but beneath the nearby Hayseed Swamps as well, the young princess begins to find herself trapped between the jealous blight of those closest to her and the cruel, manipulative forces responsible for it.
