Dear Zap Apple

I think it's time I told you the truth about some things. There is a lot I haven't had the time to talk to you about, or things I needed to tell you about that you would have been to young to understand.

First thing I want to tell you, is that Momma Dash would have been so proud to see the mare you have grown into. I sure-as-tartarus am. You are a beautiful, talented, young mare, and never let anyone tell you that you ain't. I only wish she were still around.

Do you remember how we had that talk about angels? There were some things that were just too painful to talk about. The day I met Momma Dash seemed like nothing special. She got herself into some kind of trouble at home, and I found her asleep in the barn. Now if I were to say it was immediate love, I'd be lying. I'm afraid there are times where things ain't quite like the fairy tales we used to read to you as a foal. I just couldn't leave her there, it was during a rainstorm, and it was below zero that night, so I gave her some of the Apple family hospitality that your great granny, Granny Smith taught me, I took her in immediately. Now I was only a filly at this point, but I was still able to offer her warmth and a comfortable bed for the night. I will always remember that because the little frozen pegasus I once took in, became a huge part of my life. It took a few years, but these things do.

I think I might have told you this already, but if it weren't for Momma Dash, I ~~probably~~ definitely wouldn't be the mare I am today. Neither would Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy, or Pinkie Pie. Spike may not even have been born for another few hundred years yet. It was your mother's sonic rainboom that collectively helped us all find out destinies, and through Twilight's destiny, Spike was born.

The next time I saw Momma Dash was when I got back from Manehatten. We quickly became friends, often speaking about the night she took refuge in the barn. We found ourselves hanging out more and more, and soon became the best of friends. We went on so many adventures over the years. Some with the our other friends, and some we went on by our selves. The most memorable was the running of the leaves. I think Princess Celestia herself may still remember that episode. How your mothers were too busy trying to trip each other up to concentrate on the meaning of the event. We were the closest of friends, yet still, nothing more. These things do take time.

I think I remember the exact moment I fell in love with your mother. It must have been seventeen to eighteen years after we first met. I was crying alone at your grandmother's and grandfather's graves. It wasn't that your aunt Bloom, uncle Mac and great granny, Granny Smith were too busy to go, I'd just had a stressful day, and i needed an outlet. So I sat for hours on end, just speaking. Then Momma Dash joined me. She just sat in silence, listening to what I had to say, even though I weren't speaking to her. She soon revealed that her parent's, also, had passed away. We sat speaking about our memories with our parents for hours, right into the night time before she flew me home. To put it shortly, I have always been frightened of heights, yet with Momma Dash, I completely trusted her to keep good hold of me. When we reached the farmhouse, the most magical thing happened. I don't know what pushed me to do it, but I kissed your mother for the first time. She was a little shocked at first, but she kissed back. I thought it would have been wrong, but it just felt so right in every single way, like it was meant to happen.

The first few months we were together could sometimes be a bit difficult, with me working the farm, and Momma Dash working with the weather team. One thing about love that is important to know is; it doesn't matter about any difficulties, as long as the love is there, it will always work out, and it always did. You see, the moments we shared together easily made up for time we were busy. All the time we were together was special. We could just sit in silence, yet just being in each others company made it time worth cherishing.

We were together a good two years, in fact, we were together for exactly two years to the date when Momma Dash asked for my hoof in marriage. I couldn't believe it. I knew I loved her, and I knew she loved me, but I never expected it to flourish into marriage. Funny thing is, everyone was doing a whole lot more fussing than myself and Dash put together. Rarity was making the biggest fuss of course. For every pony else, everything had to be perfect, yet for the two of us, it already was perfect. All four of the Princesses were there, our friends, both mine and Dash's side of the family were all there. Yet as long as there was me, Dash, and someone to marry us, I'd have been happy with it.

Look, Zap Apple. A lot of people might say horrible things about you having two mothers. You are grown up now. I don't really want to tell you how you were conceived, but what I am going to say is, both Dash and I are your biological parents, and we both love you until the ends of our lives and beyond.

The day Momma Dash died was the most heartbreaking day of my life. It just happened far too quickly. She had fallen ill only three months before she passed away. It was hard enough when the doctor said she may not recover. It's funny, they will always say the best thing to do is to prepare. Nothing any pony can do will prepare them for the loss of a loved one. I'm sorry I kept this from you. I'm so sorry. Momma Dash's final words before she died were, "Applejack, you and Zap Apple are the main things in my life. My wife and my daughter. You two gave me a reason to be happy, a reason to live. It's funny, when I first met you, nothing meant more than being a Wonderbolt, but now, even if I was asked to take Spitfire's position as Wonderbolt leader a million times, the answer would be no. You two gave me a new purpose in life. Never forget that. I'm in a lot of Pain AJ, and there's no way back. Please, I know it hurts, but just let me pass away peacefully. Let the doctors take me off support. But never forget, I love you, and I love Zap Apple, right through to my dying breath." That day, Rainbow Dash passed away, the world lost a good pony, and I've never felt the same since.

This leads me to the worst part of it. When you come back for another visit at the hospital, I may already be gone. We've been expecting it for a while now. I know it's hard to hear, but I'll be happy with Momma Dash, grandpa and grandma Apple, and Grandpa and Grandma Rainbow. We will be watching over you to see how you grow. I'm sorry I have to tell you like this. Remember, Momma Dash and I love you for eternity. So do your grand parents; don't think that just because you never met them, they ain't been watching over you.

Remember, if you ever need any guidance in life, you have aunt Bloom, Uncle Mac, and your great granny, Granny Smith. Or there is, of course, Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Spike. Remember, you are never alone. You never will be. Even with both your mothers gone, there will always be some pony around for you to look up to.

This is where I have to end it. I wish you all the best in life, my dear Zap Apple. One day you will find your angel. And no matter what may come, you will always love each other. I love you, Zap Apple, so does Momma Dash. Goodbye Zap Apple.

Your loving mother
Applejack.
