Twilight sat alone in the gloomy darkness of her room atop the simple library that Ponyville had to offer. She was studying a very new and very fickle form of magic, a dark and never used kind. It was supposed to place a portal that leads to another realm in the middle of some sort of arch structure. Twilight now sat infront of an arch she made out of a bookcase that she prepared for the portal to be housed in.
The last unicorn to ever attempt this disappeared and never came back. Nopony knew why, it just…happened.
The book she was reading was entitled “Realm Transportation: Your Guide to Realm Travel!” If you entered the room you would only see her body, her head was basically inside the book itself! She wanted to test it for herself to see how it worked so she could show it off to her friends, she loved showing them new tricks.
Twilight knew that this spell would use up almost all her energy, rendering her motionless for a little bit after she cast it. But she wanted to cast it anyway, and there would be no way anypony could stop her from doing it.
“Here goes nothing” she gulped and cast the spell. As her energy was gathering, her horn started glowing a faint purple. Sparks shot out of her horn in every which way, threatening to light her tree on fire. A very bright white light immediately lit the room in a similar fashion to having her very own sun inside her house.
Just then pinkie and the rest of the gang burst into the room for the surprise party they were planning and were instantly blinded. The whole tree shook as they just stood there shielding their eyes and then finally shuddered to a halt.
The light faded and twilight sat in the middle of the room, panting as if she just sprinted in the Running of the Leaves.
They all went up to her and asked what she did and if she was okay, of course Fluttershy was already there when everything stopped. “Oh my twilight, you look tired. Maybe you should rest…if that’s okay with you…” she whispered in her usual tone.
Twilight shook her head, “No no, I’m fine everypony, I was just trying a new spell I learned. Looks like it didn’t work”. But, Applejack piped up with a look of confusion, ”Hey y’all, uh…where in Equestria are we?”
They all rushed to the window, except Twilight who was too weak to even stand. There was one collective gasp as they all saw an orchard, but not like Sweet Apple Acres.
A sort of purplish haze messed with their vision as they peered out into...where? The ponies didn't know where they were or what this strange place was, all they knew was that they had apples too!
These trees looked unlike any they’ve seen, with the cartoony look drained from them to be replaced by…something. They were green and all, apples too, but they just seemed too different, like somepony took all the pastel out of them and replaced it with deeper shades. Rainbow dash barely managed to squeak, “I don’t think were in Ponyville anymore…”
That woke twilight up. “IT WORKED, IT WORKED OH CELESTIA YES!” She yelled and bounced around with joy as the others just stared, dumbfounded. Rarity piped up, “What worked darling?” They all gathered around as Twilight told them about the book and the new spell she was learning.
They all looked frightened and bewildered and Twilight told them she can just reverse it and they will be home. They all cheered up a little, but not much.
Twilight began the spell again, but the light wasn’t as bright as before, it was like her little sun now stood 100 feet outside her window. There was a massive POP! And everypony except Twilight was gone. She looked around, confused, and then looked out the window. It was the same sight they explained to her earlier.
“Oh no, this can’t be happening! This just can’t be happening!” but it was. Her friends were gone and she was alone all by herself in an unknown world with weird looking trees. She decided to take in her surroundings and walked outside.
Everything was normal, it just looked…different. She couldn’t explain how, it was just different. The hills were still hills, grass was grass, and the clouds were clouds. Life just seemed dull, like all the color was deeper and scarier. She heard a noise and recognized it as somepony walking; she ran around her tree house and saw the strangest thing in her life.
It was about 6 feet tall, had four limbs but was standing upright, the other two dangling to the side. It wore cloth on its whole body and popping out between its fore-hooves was a head.
She screamed and ran around the other side, it did likewise. She realized this was a mistake and slowly trotted around to the other side, now the thing had a short metallic thing in its hooves. It gleamed in the sunlight and it was pointed right at her.
She trotted towards him, slowly at first and as soon as she did, the thing pointed its metal thingie straight up and a large, booming BANG was heard as a flash lit up the dusky field.
It yelled “Stay back, or I'll shoot!” Twilight tried to grab it with her horn, but it just fizzled. It blasted the metal thing again.
She responded, “Please stop! You’re scaring me!” she didn’t know why she said it but soon saw that she was cowering and shaking under the giant tree house. The thing looked perplexed that she could talk but quickly shook the feeling away and pointed the metal thing directly.at.her.
She stopped and listened. He explained,"I dunno what ya' are, but ya' can't go plopping cartoony trees in somebody else's orchard!" she winced as he yelled the last bit and he noticed, calming his voice. "Look, ma name is Jacob. I run this here orchard." Twilight stammered her reply, "I..I'm T..t..twilight Sparkle."
"Geez! Did ah really scare ya that bad? Sorry." Jacob whispered
"It's uh...okay. I come from Equestria, land of the ponies." Twilight didn't know if it was a good idea to tell him where she was from but he looked trust-able.
Jacob looked confused and said, "Huh? come again?"
"Equestria, y'know, with Princess Celestia and all that shtuff."
"Never heard of it." Twilight noticed he had an accent like Applejack's. She suddenly realized how bad this situation really was, they were in a whole new realm! far away from Equestria! "Listen, I'll tell you everything on the way back ta th' house."
Twilight made a new friend in this dreary land he called...earth.
