Pokémon. Also known by their full name as Pocket Monsters, the Pokémon are a unique and large race of creatures that soar through the skies, run across the plains, and swim deep in the oceans. Pokémon come in many forms and types as well. Ponies have been alongside Pokémon for thousands of years and they’ve worked together ever since the Royal Sisters, Luna and Celestia, tamed the very first Pokémon. The two races have been friends, companions, and allies during Pokémon battles. Now, here’s the story of a young colt as his Pokemon journey begins.

The city of Canterlot. Home of the Royal Sisters and to many types of Pokémon. One of the many ponies who live in this city is Silver Star. She’s a unicorn mare who has a silvery fur with a moon white mane and tail. Her eyes were a shade of cerulean and her cutie mark was a silvery star. She wasn’t much of a Pokémon trainer, unlike her husband who vanished a few years ago. The stallion was considered one of the best Pokémon trainers of the modern times and was rumored to have been able to nearly beat the Elite Four. He was not only an expert Grass Trainer but also knew nearly every Pokemon in all of Equestria. But yet, when he made it to the final member of the Elite Four, he lost and then.. vanished into thin air. But after he vanished from existence, Silver Star made sure to do her hardest to make her son happy.

Her son was Lucky Ball and he was a colt who loved Pokémon to death. Ever since he was little and saw his first Pokémon, his father’s Scyther, something within him stirred and he suddenly felt more eager than ever to start training. He didn’t just want to beat the best….. he wanted to be the best. And ever since, he’s studied in books, went to battles, and has asked trainers questions to learn what he can about these creatures. And many years later, the colt was laying in his bed, a stuffed Pikachu toy between his arms, as he slept like a little baby, dreaming about the one thing he’s always wanted to do. Him winning the title of Pokémon Master. He stood there, in the arena of Canterlot, a broad smile on his face as he watched the ponies in the crowd cheer. They tossed roses at his hooves and even asked them for autographs. He smiled even grew more when he heard the massive crowd cheer his name.

“LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY!” They would cheer to the top of their lungs. He would be holding a Poké Ball in his hand as he stared out into the stands. “LUCKY, LUCKY LUCKY!” Now the crowd started to sound demanding which confused him a little bit. Then he realised he had heard that sound before. Suddenly, the ground beneath him vanished, causing him to fall into darkness and scream the whole way down. But somewhere in the fell, he noticed something. He noticed a pair of glowing blue eyes. But soon, he felt the area around him vanish and soon his own eyes opened, revealing his “Mom?!”

“Yes dear it’s me. You slept in a little late again.” She told him with a small smile on her face. Lucky just wanted to vanish right on the spot due to the embarrassing red spots on his cheeks.

“You woke me up in an awesome dream mom! I just won the title of Pokémon Master and everypony in Equestria was cheering my name! I was about to show them the team when you woke me up!” He said angrily, causing his mom to giggle.

“You and Pokémon. Still, it’s no reason to sleep in today. Get dressed and come downstairs. I have a little surprise for you.” His mom said as she headed towards his door.

“What’s the surprise?” He asked.

“If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore.” She replied as she headed out of his room. Lucky simply sighed as he got out of his bed and headed to his dresser. He looked in the mirror and saw he was a major mess. It was like a Pidgeotto used Gust on him. His fur was silvery grey like his mom but he had his father’s mane and tail, smoky black and spiky. His eyes shined a gleaming green. He didn’t have his cutie mark yet but he didn’t seem to care. What he cared about was getting his looks in order. He went into the bathroom and started to wash his hair a little bit but eventually went with a messy look for his hair that left it spikey. He then went to his closet where he found a red jacket and a black t-shirt in it and pulled them out and laid them down on his bed while he searched for the rest of his attire. It took him a few hours but he found the rest of his outfit and slipped them on. All that was missing now was his hat. He went through his closet but didn’t see it anywhere.

“Now where did I put it?” He thought as he stared at his room which seemed like a typhoon blew through it. A desk sat in the corner with a black computer, stacks of books about Pokémon sat everywhere, and his old clothes were scattered everywhere.

I guess mom’s right about catching up on my chores. He thought as he sighed. He digged through them and finally saw his hat. It was a ballcap that was red and black with a green symbol in the center of it.

“Got’cha.” He said happily as he picked it up and placed it on. He headed downstairs, via riding the rails with his flank, and soon found himself in the living room. He looked around and saw his mom in the kitchen.

“Mom I’m-” Lucky started. But was soon met with a big hug from his mother. “Um… what’s this?” He asked her.

“Oh… I don’t know. Maybe it’s because it’s a very special day for you.” She replied, causing him to give her a confused look.

“What’s the special day?” He asked.

“Well… it only happens once a year, there’s been nine of them before, and it’s just for you.” She riddled. Lucky’s eyes slowly showed a light meaning he understood what the riddle meant.

“My birthday?!” He said excitedly as he started to hop slightly as he saw his mom nod.

“Happy Birthday Lucky.” She said as she kissed him on the head. He forgot that today would be his tenth birthday and Lucky was super excited for one reason.

“Mom, since today is my tenth birthday, could I possibly… get my very own Pokémon?” He asked, causing him mom to sigh.

“Lucky, hang on, I want to give you something.” His mother said as she went into the other room. But when she came back, she had a piece of paper in her hand and it seemed to have wrapped something.

“What’s that?” Lucky asked as he took the paper and began to open it. He soon felt his jaw drop as he pulled out a red, white, and black looking ball. A ball that he was all too familiar. “I-is this a-”

“It is Lucky. I hope you like the little Pokémon I chose for you.” His mom said sweetly. Slowly, he neared his thumb to the button in the center of the Poké Ball. When his thumb pressed it, it popped open and a white light shot out and struck the floor. It soon took a shape and when it was fully formed and the light died down, Lucky couldn’t believe the Pokémon. It was a small, quadrupedal Pokémon with bluish green skin and dark patches. It had thick legs that ended in three digit claws. Its eyes had red irises while the sclera and pupils were white. Two fangs jutted from its upper jaw and it had two pointed ears. From its back grew out a large bulb. The Pokémon was a starter for new trainers and Lucky knew this one like the back of his hand.

“It’s… Bulbasaur!” He said happily as he stared at the little guy. The small creature looked up at him and said “Bulba!”

“Wow mom! This is awesome!” He said as he leaned down and petted the Bulbasaur, causing it to give off what was a purr.

“I figured you would like him Lucky.” She said as she saw the plant-creature started licking her son.

“BULBA!”

“This is unbearably cool mom!” Lucky said as he rubbed Bulbasaur’s head some more. The creature responded by bringing out two vine-like tentacles and started to tickle him.

“H-H-Hey! Stop it that t-t-t-tickles! HAHAHAHA!” He said as he fell back onto the floor as the two vines tickled him like crazy. Silver smiled and giggled as she reached into her back pocket, pulling out a small, red mechanical device. Lucky stopped laughing when he saw the object and got up, Bulbasaur stopped tickling him in the process. He stared at the object for a minute before gently placing it in his own hands.

“A… Pokédex?” He asked her.

“Your father left it for you. I had the data in it erased just for you so you can collect Pokémon data yourself. I knew that one day you’d follow your father and I had to be ready. So I bought you the Bulbasaur and had the Pokédex ready for years.” She replied as a single tear dripped down her cheek. Lucky smiled as he hugged his mother.

“I love you so much mom.” He said as a tear fell from his eye.

“Y-your father would be so proud of you.” His mom said as Bulbasaur wrapped itself around them with its vines.

“Well Bulbasaur-” Lucky started as he leaned down to the small Pokémon. “Are you ready to go on an adventure with me?” He asked.

“Bulba! Bulbasaur!” It replied in an excited voice.

“Alright. Bulbasaur, would you prefer to travel outside of your Pokéball and walk around with me?” Lucky asked. It looked at the pony that was it’s owner and the small little ball that it disappeared into sometimes. It whipped out a vine and smacked the ball out of Lucky’s hand.

“YYYEEEEOOOOWWWW!”
