In the Everfree

Chapter 1

He galloped through Ponyville, heading for his house. It was a dreary September evening. The weather was terrible, pouring with rain and flashes of thunder. Lights in houses remained on with its inhabitants within, they were either doing things as a family, or sitting there doing nothing except listening to the heavy smack of large raindrops hitting against their windows, threatening to break through at any moment. He reached the door to his house, burst in and slammed the door, he then shook himself dry. “Damn rain...” he muttered to himself before trotting into the kitchen to make a hay sandwich, he needed to dry off after he’d eaten the sandwich or he’d catch a cold.

  Dried off and full up, he headed upstairs to get some rest, he walked down a small corridor and reached a door, he turned to it, the door was labelled ‘Golden Shine’, his room. The door of the room next to his was labelled ‘Solar Blitz’, his little sister’s room. He’d been looking after her since their parents had mysteriously disappeared a few years ago, he walked into his room and looked in the mirror at his reflection, a dark brown pony with a green and navy-blue mane and tail and golden coloured eyes stared back at him, his cutie mark was an acoustic guitar and a music note. As he looked at his reflection, he realized how exhausted he looked. He had been working extremely hard lately to earn enough bits to keep him and his sister alive, “maybe it’ll be the exhaustion that kills me...” he sighed and climbed into bed, soon falling into a deep sleep.

  Swift opened his eyes and sat up, stretching his forelegs then wings, yawning. He hopped out of bed and stretched his back legs. He then went into the bathroom, and splashed his face with cold water. After waking himself up, Swift trotted out of his house and headed toward Sugar Cube Corner to by a bag of muffins, on the way, he bumped into Golden Shine, who is walking Solar to school, and he still appeared to be exhausted.

  “Mornin’ Gold!” Swift greeted the exhausted pony,

  “Morning, Swift” Gold replied in his heavy British accent, he yawned.

  “You look tired, what did you do last night?”

  “What I do every day...”

  "...............Okay, and that is...?"

  “Work my arse off to earn enough bits to keep my lil’ sis alive...”

  “Oh...” Swift scratched the back of his head with his hoof,

  “Gold, I’m gonna be late for school...!” said his little filly sister in a hurried kind of voice.

  “Oh, yeah, sorry...” he yawned, “catch ‘ya later then, Swift...” he turned and carried on walking toward the school with his sister. Swift watched them go before continuing to Sugar Cube Corner.

  “Here we are, school,” announced Gold,

  “At least I’m not late,” answered Solar.

  “Yeah...Have a good day, Solar.” Gold ruffled his little sister’s hair, she giggled and hugged him,

  “Thanks, Gold, I will,” Solar smiled at him and galloped off to reach school before the bell rang for school to officially start. Gold smiled slightly as he turned to fly off to work, he had a long, exhausting day ahead of him, but as long as he worked hard enough, he’d earn just a small amount extra for his payment. He turned and flew off to work, knowing he was most likely going to be at work most of the night, but thankfully, the weekend started tomorrow, so he could get as much rest as he wanted while Solar played with her friends.
