"Err... Come on... Lift!" said a white unicorn, trying to lift a broom. The broom was floating slightly, and the unicorn had a light green aura around her horn. It dropped abruptly and the unicorn sighed. Why couldn't she just lift it? Another white unicorn walked into a room, having heard the small unicorn filly sigh.
"Sweetie Belle, what is the matter now?" asked the older unicorn, floating fabrics beside her in a blue aura.
"Twilight gave me homework, and I can't even...UGH! Rarity, can't you help me?"
"I cannot help you, Sweetie Belle. It is something you learn over time. Your magic will get stronger!" Rarity said, patting her sister's head. Rarity walked back over to her "creation room" as she liked to call it.
Sweetie walked along to her sister's bedroom, her head hung low. She sat on her sister's bed, thinking aloud. "So, I can't use magic. But Rarity said that it's power would grow when I got older. That's what she told me about my cutie mark. That I'd get it when I grew older. But I want it now. I want to be able to use my magic!" She hopped off, looking around her sister's room, looking for something lighter to lift, to find something easier to lift. She rummaged through doors, only to find nothing except for fabrics and sewing things. She looked in a particular drawer, and she found a few fancy outfits her sister had made. "Oh, these are pretty..." she thought out loud, wanting to try it on. "No, no, Sweetie Belle, these are Rarity's, you're not looking for pretty dresses." she closed the drawer, heading over to Rarity's closet. She opened it and got showered with different things from her sister's fillyhood; teddy bears, dolls, dress up outfits and more. "What's the commotion up there?" called Rarity, hearing the things crash onto Sweetie and a few teddy bears onto her dresser. "Nothing, Rarity, it's fine!" she called back, after removing teddy bears off of her face. She got up and put everything back, stacking bear after bear neatly on top of each other. She closed the closet and muttered to herself, "Well, I guess it's time to visit Twilight."

The little filly walked along the stone road, greeting ponies as she went by. How can I learn? Ugh, this is so hard! Can't I do anything? I can't get my cutie mark, I can't use magic, thought Sweetie Belle. She came upon two fillies. A butter yellow earth pony, known as Applebloom, the other an orange pegasus named Scootaloo. "Hey, Sweetie Belle! What's up?" asked the orange filly, waving at Sweetie Belle. "Oh, hi Scootaloo!" she replied, running up to the two fillies.
"Where are you goin'?" asked Applebloom, walking closer to Sweetie Belle.
"I'm just going to Twilight's," said Sweetie Belle, pointing to a tree a few yards away.
"Is it Twilight Time?" asked Scootaloo.
"No, I just need some extra help with my magic,"
"Oh." said Applebloom and Scootaloo in unison.
"Well, we've got some crusading to do!" Scootaloo flapped her wings in excitement. Sweetie scrunched up her face to restrain from crying. "Oh, well, I'll catch up with you later!" called Sweetie Belle as her friends walked away, talking among themselves as they walked. Sweetie reached a large tree, it was carved out to make a home. She knocked on the door, and a small green and purple dragon answered the door. "Twilight," called the dragon, "It's for you!" The dragon walked away from the door as a lavender alicorn princess took his place. "Hi, Sweetie Belle, come on in!" she said, moving out of the way to let the filly inside. Sweetie walked in, and almost instantly burst into tears. "Sweetie Belle, whats wrong?" asked the alicorn, patting the filly on the back affectionately.
"I can't get my cutie mark, I can't use magic! I can't do anything!" the filly cried, burying her face in her own hooves.
"Oh, Sweetie, don't feel like that. You can sing beautifully, you can make your own songs, and you've been making lots of progress with your magic!"
"You really think I sing beautifully?"
"Of course, Sweetie, everypony who has heard you sing thinks so,"
"Really?!" the filly squeaked in excitement. The alicorn nodded. "Idea!" With that, the filly ran out of the library, and ran to the street corners to perform for ponies. She sang the Cutie Mark Crusaders theme song, but in a softer tune like she had originally created it. The ponies gave her a few bits after listening. After each song she looked at her flank, but nothing appeared. When the sun started to go down, she gave up. She started walking back to the Carousel Boutique, head hung low. She entered, heading to Rarity's bedroom. Her sister always calmed her down when she was having a bad day. She walked in and upon seeing her enter, Rarity gasped. "Sweetie Belle! Look!" Sweetie looked at her flank to see a cutie mark! It was a few music signs. "RARITY! RARITY!" she yelled, "I GOT MY CUTIE MARK!" she hopped up and down, then calmed herself and cried out of joy. By then, Rarity was jumping up and down with her, cheering. "Sweetie Belle! I can't believe it! You got it! You got your cutie mark!" They both jumped up and down happily, and fell in a heap, laughing. Then ended up falling asleep there, cuddling on Rarity's bedroom floor. All her worries, forgotten. All her doubts, vanished. But how was she going to tell Scootaloo and Applebloom?
