My Little Pony: Equestria's Mightiest Heroes
Janet and Rarity: Part 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRarity and Janet started by taking care of a few smaller orders. They were not very elaborate or very complicated. Rarity assigned Janet to more of the same work, mostly accessorizing.
Based on some of the patterns Janet saw lying around the boutique, she thought very highly of Rarity’s fashion sense. She saw a lot of talent, and the drive to make great clothing. She reminded Janet of herself, well, before she pretty much became a full time superhero. Janet had always wanted to open up her own fashion line, but never had the chance. She devoted herself to fighting crime ever since her father’s murder. Working with Rarity reminded her of her life before that had happened.
Rarity had been great, and not that bothered when Janet had made mistakes, of which she made a lot, this was the first time she was accessorizing clothing without fingers. She helped Janet whenever she had asked for advice. Janet was used to designing costumes. While working with Rarity, she was able to design and work with actual clothing. Rarity had allowed her to follow her dream once more, even if it was just for a brief time until she went back with the other Avengers. Janet felt inspired by this pony to not give up on her dream.
Janet noticed how Rarity seemed to be solely focused on each piece of clothing she was making. Rarity existed in a world with only herself and the piece of art she was creating. Jan would see her go in and out of this world every once in a while. It looked like it would be nice to be able to show that much devotion to what one loved.
…
Rarity was impressed by how well Janet had picked up the fashion that she was trying to push. She could tell that Janet was no stranger to design. She enjoyed Janet’s company in her boutique. They never seemed to get in each other’s way. Janet made a few mistakes, but she was learning a new style. She didn’t find it hard to be patient with Janet, like she often felt with those who didn’t understand fashion.
Rarity noticed that while Janet worked, she seemed to be lost in her thoughts. She was miles away while she worked. Rarity could tell that Jan liked the work she did, but it seemed like it was more than just a hobby. She looked to be taken to a better place, a better time. Rarity noticed a tear roll down Janet’s face. Rarity almost went over to her, be she noticed the smile that was also present. At the sight, Rarity couldn’t help but smile as she wiped her eyes and returned to work.
…
Around lunch time they stopped for a break. Rarity had brought some food in for the both of them. She brought in two hay and daffodil salads.
“I hope you like salads, I haven’t restocked since my sister was here last.” Rarity said with a smile.
“Oh, thank you!” Janet responded. She was a bit surprised at the food presented. Janet was still not used to being a pony, but she was grateful for something to eat.
About halfway through the meal, Rarity’s curiosity got the better of her. “I don’t mean to pry, but while we were working…” Rarity’s voice trailed off, as she saw Janet crack a small smile, as if Janet knew what she was referring to.
“Oh, saw that did you?” Janet responded in a joking manner.
“If you don’t wish to talk about it, I understand.”
“It’s ok, just a bit depressing.” Janet paused, upon Rarity’s nod, she continued. “I always wanted to be a fashion designer, but my father was murdered. That is where I met Hank, he gave me super powers and we went off to become Avengers, and that is what I have been doing ever since. Well, it is a bit more complicated than that, but working with you today made me think of my father and when I still dabbled in design.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Rarity said, not knowing what to say.
“No, I’m sorry for dumping it on you like that. We basically just met and I just go and tell you about it and—” Janet started before Rarity held up her hoof with an understanding smile on her face.
“Thank you for trusting me enough to already share your story with me.” Rarity said as she gave Janet a hug.
“Thanks…” Janet felt a bit more relieved. “I didn’t want you to think I was weird or anything…”
“The weirdest part was the super powers.” Rarity chuckled, almost as if it was all too familiar. “That is a little hard to comprehend.”
Upon Rarity releasing Janet, Janet responded, “I can show you what I do…”
Rarity nodded and Janet willed herself to shrink to a fraction of her normal size. Her wings were now proportional to her body and she was hovering at Rarity’s eye level.
“They call me the Wasp where I’m from, due to my size and a stinger ability that I have.”
“That is… I don’t have the words to explain…” Rarity stood in shock.
“Yeah… I didn’t believe it at first either. Hank figured out how to do this.” Janet responded.
Rarity and Janet continued to speak for several minutes before they finally returned to the work they had to complete that day.
“We need to deliver the completed outfits to their new owners.” Rarity explained.
“Well, let’s get going.” Janet responded, and the two left to deliver the clothes.
