//-------------------------------------------------------// Friends Never Say Goodbye -by Stormy Dawn- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Friends Never Say Goodbye //-------------------------------------------------------// Friends Never Say Goodbye Any ordinary day, Rainbow was practicing her moves, and Pinkie Pie was watching. Ordinary, right? "Oooh!" Pinkie beamed. "Good one!" Rainbow smiled as she flew by her best friend. "Thanks, Pinks!" She said. Everything was okay, it was sunny, all of Ponyville's residents were happy, giving Pinkie some free time. Everything was fine.......... Rainbow was flying high in the air when she grunted. She gripped her chest and started falling. Pinkie's ears flattened back as her pupils dilated. "Dashie?" She called. No reply came from the pegasus as she limply fell towards the ground. "Dashie!" She cried as she ran towards her. The pink mare watched in horror as her friend pelted into the ground, leaving a crater. Ponies looked up from what they were doing. Pinkie ran up to the blue mare and touched her chest. Her head whipped around. "SOMEPONY GET A DOCTER!!!" She yelled as tears streamed down her face. "SOMEPONY!" A stallion nodded quickly and disappeared towards the direction of the hospital. Pinkie looked back down at Dash. "It's gonna be okay, Dashie..." She said as she cried. A few minutes later, a group of doctors and nurses raced up to the unconscious pegasus. "Please..." Pinkie moaned. "Make sure she's okay..." A nurse looked over to her. "We'll try our best." She said. Pinkie watched as they carried her away, hopefully to make her better. Pinkie's other four friends ran up behind her. "Pinkie?!" Twilight cried. "What happened?" She asked. The pink pony turned around. "D-Dashie was practicing when she fell and..." She trailed off. "Well, I don't really know what happened. All I saw was her fall." "Oh mah gosh!" Applejack said. "Let's get to the hospital!" All of them nodded as they ran towards the hospital. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Rainbow's five friends burst into her hospital room, frantically breathing. The blue mare's eyes slowly opened. She weakly smiled. "Dashie!" Pinkie cried. "Hey everybody." She said. Rainbow frowned. She opened her mouth, but closed it when a nurse walked in. They all turned to the white earth pony. "Hello everypony." She said. "Rainbow Dash had suffered a fatal heart attack, and when she hit the ground, she broke many bones." She said. The group gasped. "I'm sorry, but at the most, Rainbow will only live for a few more hours or less." She finished. "Nonononononononono..." Pinkie moaned. "Not Dashie!" The nurse looked down and closed her eyes. "In sorry, there's nothing we can do." "Guys," she winced in pain. "It's okay, don't be sad." Pinkie stood at her bedside. "How can we not be sad?" She asked with a high pitched voice. "How?" Rainbow smiled. "Pinks, I know I'll be gone, but think of this," she said. "Friends never say goodbye." She said. "What?" Pinkie asked. "I'll always be with you, so you don't have to say goodbye." She explained. "I know it sounds cheesy, but come on, I'm dying." She joked. "How could you joke at a time like this?" The pink mare asked. "Just keeping my cool." She casually said. Twilight stepped forward. "Nurse Redheart, would you mind if we spent the rest of her life with her?" She asked. "Of course." Nurse Redheart said. Rainbow smiled. "Thanks, guys." She said. "I just can't believe you're so incredibly calm." Rarity said. "Like I said, keeping my cool." She repeated. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The girls had a great few hours. They joked and laughed. One by one, they disappeared until Pinkie was was left. "Well Dashie, it's just you and me." She said. "Yep." Rainbow answered. "Look, I'm sorry..." Pinkie trailed off. "Nah, nah, it wasn't your fault!" Rainbow said. "But what if I caught you?" Pinkie asked. "Two things Pinks, in dying because of the heart attack, and you would've been a pancake." She said. "Oh." Pinkie mumbled. Her pink ears perked up when Rainbow's heart monitor's beeps slowed down. Rainbow turned to Pinkie with a weak smile. Tears started rolling down Pinkie's cheeks. "No...." She mumbled. Rainbow's chest rose and set slower and slower. Rainbow felt a warm hoof under her neck. She saw Pinkie's sky blue eyes staring back at her own eyes. She leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips. The kiss lingered until her last few breaths. "Dashie, I've loved you my whole life..." Pinkie. Rainbow weakly chuckled. "Funny, so have I..." Her eyelids slowly drooped closed, and her chest stopped moving. Pinkie looked at her best friends face. Her lips were curved up in a smile, and her cheeks were a rosy red. Pinkie leaned her head against her blue stomach as she cried in the darkened room. Her cotton candy mane draped to her sides. "Friends never say goodbye......" She whispered through her sobbing. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Pinkie's bottom lip quivered as she watched four ponies carry Rainbow Dash's casket down an isle. It was a gloomy day, and everypony had gathered to mourn over Rainbow at her funeral. Pinkie hugged Twilight tight as she struggled not to burst into tears. Twilight patted her head. "It's okay, we all feel the same way." She said. "I-It was different for me..." Pinkie mumbled. Twilight raised an eyebrow at her. "We were..." She started. "We were.... Oh, nevermind." She started to sob. "Shhhhhh..." Twilight mumbled as a tear ran down her cheek. Speeches were said, and tears were shed. After everypony thought the speeches were over, Pinkie stepped up. She looked around at all the ponies looking at her. She cleared her throat. "Hi everypony, I'm one of Dashie's best friends, and this is probably one of the saddest days of my life." She said. She took a deep breath. "Dashie was a great mare. She was always there when she was needed. She was true to her element, loyalty." She choked back all the sobs that kept coming up her throat. "She was willing to give up her dreams, just to be there for her friends here in Ponyville." She smiled. "I'll never forget the way she kept cool in the worst of times, and how she was able to help me and many others through something sad." She recalled as she thought about their small chat at the hospital. "She was such an amazing pony, whether you're talking about how fast and awesome she was, or how much of a true friend she was." She clenched her teeth. "Dashie will always have a place in my heart, as well as many of yours, too." Pinkie nodded and walked back to her group of friends. Next came the moment of silence for the passed. Pinkie bowed her head and screwed her eyes shut. She fought the urge to burst out crying. After the silence was over, they watched the casket being lowered into a deep hole in front of her tombstone. On the top and sides of the casket, the picture of her cutie mark was painted on the wood. After the funeral was over, everypony gradually left. All but Pinkie. She remained once behind again. She walked up to Rainbow's tombstone. She smiled as she read what was engraved on it. Stay cool and keep flying. She sat on her haunches and sighed. "Hey Dashie, how's heaven?" She asked the air. "I miss you already, but like you said, you're right here with me." She choked back another sob. "I do miss watching you practice, and pranking with you." She admitted. "I still love you." She sighed again and smiled. "But hey, friends never say goodbye." Death is a headache no one can't heal, and love is a memory no one can steal. Author's Note The end! I know that was sad and I don't know why I made it, but I did.
