Scootaloo walked down the dirt road towards the orphanage. Her feet dragged across the cold ground as she trudged on. She hated the orphanage. It was always cold and lonely, and the other kids teased her for only being able to hover and not being able to fly. She hated it. As she walked, she looked up at the sky in time to see a streak of rainbow pass by. She smiled. There she knew only one pony who created a rainbow trail as she flew.
Rainbow Dash.
Scootaloo turned around to continue her trip to her so called “home”, only to be face to face with her idol.
“Hey squirt!” she said.
Scootaloo jumped backwards, startled. “Hi Rainbow Dash!” she replied.
Rainbow smiled, “I was wondering if you wanted to go get something to eat at SugarCube Corner,” “YES!” Scootaloo yelled. She quickly regained her cool, “Uh, I mean, sure,” she smiled.
Rainbow couldn’t help but laugh,”Ok, lets go,” She knelt down and allowed Scootaloo to climb on her back. Once Scootaloo’s forearms were secured tightly around her neck, she took off.
Dash soared over the houses and buildings that occupied the small town and flew towards the sweet shop. She heard a small giggle as she flew and looked over her shoulder. Scootaloo was smiling, enjoying the wind in her mane and extended her own wings. Though they were small, they still caught the breeze and gave the feeling as though she was really flying. Dash smiled. She was glad the filly got to experience this, since she still couldn’t fly due to the underdevelopment of her wings.
Dash turned her head back to the direction she was going as she neared SugarCube Corner. Landing in front of the door, Rainbow helped Scootaloo off her back. As the duo walked inside, Rainbow Dash was instantly attacked by Pinkie Pie.
“Hey Dashie! It’s funny seeing you here! You know, since you don’t live here!”
“Hey Pinkie,” Dash replied as she stood up.
“Hi Pinkie!” Scootaloo greeted.
Rainbow looked over at Scootaloo,”What type of cupcake do you want, Squirt?” she asked.
“Vanilla, please!”
Rainbow looked back at Pinkie, “Can we get two vanilla cupcakes, Pinkie?” she asked.
“Okie dokie!” She replied as she hopped into the kitchen and quickly emerged with 2 vanilla cupcakes.
“Thanks, Pinkie!” Scootaloo said as Rainbow took the plate of cupcakes over to one of the tables. Dash placed the plate on the table and gave one to Scootaloo. “Here you go,”
“Thanks, Dash!” she replied as she gratefully accepted the cupcake.
“So,” Dash said, “have you been practicing your flying?”
“Yup!” Scootaloo replied happily,”I’m getting better, I can get a whole 5 feet off the ground!”
“That’s awesome, Scoots!” Dash replied. Scootaloo had gotten a lot better at flying, even if she could still only hover. Rainbow was proud of the little filly.
Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash finished their cupcakes and walked out the door.
“Thanks for tonight, Rainbow Dash!” Scootaloo said as she hugged Rainbow and began to walk away.
“Hold on a minute, Scoots,” Rainbow said. Scootaloo stopped dead in her tracks and turned around. “Why don’t you spend the night at my place? I have an extra guest room…” Rainbow knew Scootaloo hated the orphanage and hated seeing her go back to a place like that.
“Really?!” she replied. Rainbow simply nodded her head. Scootaloo ran over to her idol and hugged her. “Thank you, Rainbow Dash! Thank you!”
Rainbow smiled and returned the hug, “No problem, Squirt,” she replied. Rainbow knelt down and let Scootaloo on her back once more.
“Hold on! Rainbow yelled as she took off.
Scootaloo smiled as the breeze blew back her mane and ran through her fur. This was the highest and fastest she had ever been.
And she loved it.
Once they landed on the front of the cloud home, Scootaloo slid off Rainbow’s back. The cloud felt weird under her hooves. It confused her. Rainbow saw the confused look on her face.
“Have you ever been on a cloud before?” she asked.
Scootaloo shook her head, “No, but I like it,”
Dash lead Scootaloo inside the home.
“Thanks again for letting me stay here tonight. I really didn’t want to go back to the orphanage…”
“No problem, Squirt,” Rainbow replied.
The next few hours were spent talking about various things, such as flying and the Wonderbolts. Soon, they decided it was time to go to bed.
“Hey,” Rainbow began, “before you go to bed, I have a surprise for you,”
Scootaloo’s eyes twinkled with excitement. Rainbow Dash lead her up the stairs and down the hall. She stopped in front of a door with an orange and purple S on it. Scootaloo looked up at Rainbow Dash, confused.
“Open it,” she told her. The orange filly opened the door. She smiled. Inside was a bedroom, specifically for a filly Scootaloo’s age. Wonderbolt posters were plastered on the walls. Scootaloo looked towards the bed. It was a cloud bed with a wonderbolt plushie laying on the orange blanket. Besides that there was a purple bedside table with a lamp and two photos. Scootaloo walked over to the table and looked at the photos. One of the pictures was of Rainbow Dash and herself, smiling as they sat by a stream. She remembered that day. It was the day Scootaloo got her first flying lesson from Rainbow Dash. The other was something Scootaloo didn’t recognize.
It was an adoption certificate.
This is to certify that
Scootaloo
has been officially adopted by
Rainbow Dash

Tears began falling down the young filly’s face as she read it again. She didn’t believe it. She had always wanted a family. Now, she had one. She looked up at Rainbow Dash, who smiled at her. Scootaloo ran over and hugged Rainbow. She wrapped her hooves around Dash and sobbed into her shoulder. This was the best day of her life. Rainbow gladly returned the hug.
“Welcome home, Scootaloo,”
