Magic in Black and White (and Grey)

Aiymys Konrad (that's AY-mis not AY-mees, he'll have you know) knows the truth about Magyk. Most people in this modern age would scoff or laugh at the idea of magic, and who would blame them? But Aimys knows so much more. The Konrads are an ancient family comprised of witches, wizards, warlocks and everything in-between who, through thousands of years, have maintained the knowledge of humanity's Magykal capabilities before, through, and after the first and last Great War of Magyk.

They also guard it from the rest of the world. Not out of greed, but to keep it out of the wrong hands. In the aftermath of the war it was decided that the Konrads and a select few other families like them were entrusted with knowledge of Magyk and instructed to keep it secret until the time came when humanity could again work responsibly with its power.

Unfortunately, this approach had one flaw: with no examples of the potential evil of magic, the newer generations would have diminished awareness of such things. This is why young, hubristic Aimys failed to see the harm in performing a particular incantation he found in an ancient, sigil-bound grimoire belonging to his father. This action invited something so foul and fell into this world that had been bound behind the strongest spells for millennia.

Too weak and too inexperienced to lock the entity back in its prison, Aimys grabbed a handful of spellbooks and performed a quick incantation that dropped him into a separate plane of reality, knowing that spirits often follow the summoner, and that the rest of his world would be safe.

He knew that it would probably take the being a considerable amount of time to locate him, giving him time to figure out how to re-bind it.

He didn't know that the new world into which he jumped was inhabited by sapient creatures. Creatures blissfully unaware of the full spectrum of Magyk.
