Prologue
Fat raindrops pelted the cobblestone road with great force, soaking the dark city of Whinneapolis. Tall buildings stood solemnly together, as if trying one another's body heat to fight of the autumn chill. All in all, it was a rather gloomy place. The whole town seemed to be different shades of grey, stitched together like patchwork.
A hooded figure dashed threw an alleyway, splashing threw puddles of varying sizes. Swerving around wooden crates and wagons, which held multiple kinds of spoiled produce, she reached her destination. Hidden in shadow, was a rusted steel door, to small for even Princess Luna, a rather small alicorn, to get threw. Lifting a lavender hoof, the pony pounded on the door as hard as she possibly could, the sound's echoes spread out along the alley. A rectangular hatch, just big enough to push a four-hundred page book threw, slid open, revealing two bronze eyes on the other side.
"Friend or foe?" Hissed a high-pitched voice.
"Friend…" Replied the cloaked pony, worry edged her voice. The eyes disappeared, as the sound of a key turning in a lock could be heard. As the door slowly swung open, the brown-eyed pony could be seen. His fur was a brownish, sandy color, with lighter spots her and there. A short, messy, chestnut mane lay on the earth pony's neck, it looked as if he hadn't washed it in months. He wore what looked to be a treasure chest as a cutie mark, which made the cloaked pony wonder what his talent happened to be. The two ponies entered the building, closing the door behind them.
"Well, let me see your hoof." The brown pony commanded, a slight rasp edged his voice. The hooded pony lifted her right hoof for him to see.
"See? I'm clean!" She grumbled, slightly annoyed it the other pony's in-hospitality. A sigh escaped her throat as she took off her hood, revealing a long, purple horn and dark purple mane.
"If it isn't our fair princess, Twilight Sparkle! What brings you to my humble abode?" The brown pony bowed as he spoke, any suspicion disappeared from his tone. Twilight sighed again and shivered, feeling a cold draft that came from a nearby barred window.
"I heard that you might have some Sand Weed. I need it to test a theory I have." The alicorn explained, her left fore-hoof tapped the floor impatiently.
"Uh, I'm sorry to inform you, but I only provide a place for the sick and tired to stay. This not a store." The earth pony mumbled hesitantly, shrugging his shoulders like nothing could change the fact.
"I'm not here to play around Wish Hunter!" Twilight hissed angrily, her tail lashing from side to side.
"How do you know my name?"
"That doesn't matter! I need that Sand Weed!"
"But-"
"The very fate of Equestria rests on me getting some Sand Weed, so if you continue to refuse, I'll have to take it by force!" This shocked the brown earth pony, causing him to take a few steps back."
"Er-Follow me! I think I might have some in the back!"
