Chapter 1

“Hey, Ben?” No answer. “Ben! Hey, Ben! Where are you?”

I hear three loud thumps coming down the hallway. I sigh and roll my eyes and walk towards the source of the noise. The thumping repeated, even when I entered the room.  There, I could see my brother, Ben, lying his head on the table and slamming his fist down.

“Ben~” I moaned at him. “How many times must I tell you not to sleep on the table? We have beds for a reason!”

He just stopped slamming his fist on the table and flipped me the bird. After a couple of seconds, something dawned on him and he gave me a confused look.

“What?” I asked him while trying to think of a reason why he was giving me that look. “How did I know you were asleep?” he nodded his head slowly. “You’re drooling,” I pointed out.

A surprised expression started to creep onto his face as he slowly checked his mouth with the back of his hand. After confirming the fact that he was drooling, he let his head fall onto the table with a loud *smack*.

“Anyway, I don’t know if you've noticed or not but there’s a storm brewing outside, so, I’m going to check on the crops and animals before it gets too bad.” he gave me an unimpressed look, as if to say ‘That is the reason you woke me?’ “look, we both know how you can get whenever I disappear, so I thought it’s best to tell you,” He just raised his hand again to flip the bird at me once more. “DAHH, shuddup! You know its true!” he extended his arm and put more emphasis on his middle finger.

“Holy FUCK, its getting bad out there!” I shouted down the hallway as I closed the front door behind me.

Ben stepped through the doorway of the kitchen and started to walk towards me with two beers. Once he got to me he handed me one and leaned against the wall while taking a sip of his.

“Well, all the crops have been covered over so they should be safe,” I reported, taking a sip of my own beer. “The animals were a little harder to deal with but I managed before It got too bad… how do you do it?” I asked him but all he gave me was a weird look. “You know, the animals. It’s like they can understand you or something but when I do what you do they ignore me and give me strange looks, like there laughing at me…” I shuddered at the thought of animals mocking me.

Ben was about to answer me but a noise interrupted him. Distant screaming. We both whipped our heads around and stared out the window for any signs of life. Nothing but a raging storm.

‘You have any idea what that was?” I asked but before I could get an answer we heard the screaming again. This time it seemed to be getting closer, fast.

I rushed for the door and swung it open faster than I knew I could, I took a few steps forward, looking around frantically for the source of the screaming. Nothing. I was about to ask Ben but he had already appeared by my side, nudging me and pointing upwards. I looked up and saw the source of the commotion, a woman falling from the sky.

“Oh, shit!”

Before either one of us could react, she impacted the ground with enough force to kill her. We both stood there shocked at the display before I came to my senses and ran over to her. Ben was still standing there, too shacked to move.

By the time I reached the mysterious woman the dust cloud around her had been blown away completely and all that was left was her lifeless body. I skidded to a halt and fell to my knees by her side. There was no sign of life. I stared at her for a moment before I flipped her over onto her back and I saw no sign of breathing. I lent down and put my ear to her mouth, but there was nothing. I moved down to her chest and pressed my head against it. I thought there was nothing until I heard a faint thumping. So faint, I was surprised I even noticed it. I heard it again but it sounded slower this time, quieter. I lifted her hand and pressed my fingers on her wrist to confirm the fact. She was alive, but barely.

I knew if I didn't act fast she would pass away in front of me.

“HEARTBEAT! SHE HAS A HEARTBEAT!” I called out to Ben but he didn't hear me, he was to busy panicking.

The only thing I could think of doing was restoring her breathing, this would get more oxygen into her lungs so it could be pumped through her bloodstream and kick start her dying heart. So that’s what I did, I placed my lips on hers and did what I could to give her air. The problem was, I knew next to nothing about CPR (only what I've seen on films) but I continued anyway. I retracted my head and placed my hands on her chest and pressed multiple times. Again, I knew next to nothing about CPR so I didn't know what the fuck I was actually doing. I repeated this a few more times and checked for breathing, still nothing. I checked her pulse again, this time I couldn't here or feel anything.

I was panicking, and she was dying, if not, dead.

I repeated the actions over and over again but only to find the same results.

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon!! Don’t die. Don’t die! DON’T DIE!!” I screamed as tears formed in my eyes.

I continued to repeat the actions and still continued to find the same results. I was giving up hope for her and it was on me. It was on me for not acting quick enough.

I stopped doing the CPR and lifted her into my arms as tears rolled down my face.

“No, no, no, no! Please no! Please. Please…”

Suddenly her limp body drew a big gasp air and reached forward, arching her back. Her eyes shot open like missiles and stared at the storm for a moment before drifting onto me. We stared at each other for what seemed like eternity. I stared into her eyes, her beautiful green eyes and she stared back into mine. I let my eyes slip from hers and onto the rest of her face. Her adorable freckles, her blonde hair, her soft skin and back into her eyes.

I realized I must have looked like a creep because she was giving me the strangest look, so I stopped staring and tried to think of something to say.

“Uuughhh… He- hello?”

Strange woman’s fist, meet my face. Face, meet the strange woman’s fist.
