Tempest's Tales

Chapter 1

It’s been so long now that I can barely remember the life I had before coming into this world. What I can remember I will strive to put down on this report. Despite what you may think from my appearance, I was not born here. I was born on the planet Earth as a creature called a human. Humans were bipedal creatures, walking on two legs as opposed to the four that you walk on. We created wonders and erected monuments to our gods. But we also fought amongst one another destroying entire civilizations. But I came long after the ancient wars of the past. The most recent war of importance was called the Second World War in which millions lost their lives, not only the soldiers, but innocent civilians were lost in the tragedies of the war. But again this was before me, the time I lived in was a time of “civilized talks” where tensions ran high but most of the time peace remained. I grew up dreaming of fighting in the Second War where the period I called “The Golden Age of Flight” occurred. One night, I went to bed and when I woke up, I wasn't in my apartment, I wasn't in the city! I later found out that I wasn't on Earth, but I am getting ahead of myself, I will begin to tell the story of the first day I spent on this new world.

Chapter 2

I awoke to the sound of birds chirping in trees and grass rustling around me. “Well this is just great.” I said to myself. I began to look around the clearing I was in to try and find a way out. I heard something shake the bushes at the edge of the clearing and caught a glimpse of cyan feathers in the canopy. I then try to walk and end up tripping over myself, looking at my feet I find out I have hooves! I try to grab them and then see my arms have turned into another set of legs with hooves at the end! Thoroughly confused, I awkwardly stand up and stumble to a nearby stream. A cursory inspection tell me that I am now a horse! No wait, too small for a horse, a tall pony perhaps. My coat is a very dark blue with a light grey inner streak in my mane and tail. And it appears that I have wings! So I guess I’m a Pegasus I think to myself. Meanwhile, the noises are getting louder, too loud for just one creature, perhaps a pack of six stalking me. I decide to run to try and get up speed for a takeoff. I let my legs act on their own and focus on getting my wings ready. I feel I have gotten up enough speed and start flapping but they flap out of sync and just make me go faster. I decide to go with it and try to outrun the creatures chasing me. After running for what felt like hours I look behind me to see if whatever was chasing me is gone. After not seeing anything I turn back forward and see a flash of cyan and a rainbow trail behind it dashes in front of me and slams into me and  I black out.

Chapter 3

As I come to, I find that night has fallen and my legs are hogtied. I hear voices arguing around me, I decide to fake being asleep still and listen. “I still think we should just let him go.” Said a quiet and shy sounding voice. “The Princess gave us a task and we can’t abandon it.” Said a regal sounding voice. “I agree with Twilight, we have to bring him to Celestia.” Said a posh, high society sounding voice. “Yeah we can’t just stop then it’d be no fun.” said an excited and hyper sounding voice. “Pinkie, we are not here to have fun, we are here for him.” said a voice with a remarkably southern accent. “Whoever he is he’s fast. I almost had to do a sonic rainboom to catch him.” Said a tomboyish voice. It seems that all of the voices were female. “Fluttershy, go and see if he’s awake.” Said the regal voice. I open my eyes and see a yellow and pink pony walk over to check on me I decide to stop faking and try to sit up. My actions seemed to startle her and alert the others sitting by a fire. They’re coats are a rainbow of colors, one especially has a rainbow mane and tail! They introduce themselves and ask me my name but I say that I can’t remember, I don’t trust these ponies. They accept it and give me some bread and apples. I thank them for the apples and the orange one named Applejack is happy that I like them saying that she grew and harvested them herself. “We have to get some sleep, Canterlot is a long way from here.” Says Twilight Sparkle, she seems to be the leader of the group. In the morning, we set out for this Canterlot with the group arranging themselves in such a way as to box me in.

Chapter 4

Twilight was right, Canterlot was a long way from the forest where they found me. After days of uneventful travel, we arrive at Canterlot. Canterlot was built on the sheer cliff face, imagine how long it took to build it! Judging from the size and style of the city, I immediately knew that this was the capital of wherever I was. After arriving in the city, we head to an elegant (and not built with defense in mind) castle. As we pass the guards, I think to myself how lucky I am that none of them captured me. I was brought to an elaborate throne room with peculiar stained glass windows on both sides. Twilight told me to wait while she talked with the Princess. After about 5 minutes, Twilight came and told me to follow her to see the Princess. When I saw her I couldn't believe my eyes, she was a winged pegasus with white with a pink, blue, light green, and light blue quadricolor mane and tail and she could’ve, if I were still human, looked me in the eyes. She welcomed me, noticing that I was paralyzed with disbelief, told me her name and asked Twilight what my name was. Twilight didn’t know, of course, and told Celestia that I didn’t remember. Celestia thought this over and told me to pick a name for myself and I asked her to give me a few names of pegasi that lived here. She responded with a list of names that I don’t remember until she reached a very peculiar name, Spitfire. I immediately recognized the British fighter of the Second World War and thought of Britain’s other aircraft from the war. I finally thought of two possible names, Typhoon and Tempest. With these names in mind, I looked myself over again trying to decide which one fit me the most. Celestia noticed my thinking and stopped and waited patiently for me to finish. After long consideration I settled on the name Tempest for it matched my colors, speed, and personality the best. I told Celestia of my choice and she asked me to tell her where I came from and how I got here.

Chapter 5

As I told my story to Celestia, the others came and listened intently. Once I got to where I woke up outside of the Everfree Forest finding myself captured by Twilight and her friends, Fluttershy apologized and told me the forest’s name. The others also looked sad for scaring me so much. After I finished with my story, Celestia apologized for the rough time her subjects had given me. I then spoke up asking where the king and queen was if Celestia was only the Princess. Celestia laughed and said that there wasn't a king or queen and that she ruled the land. Understanding, I asked for the name of the country I was in and Celestia told me Equestria. I then burst out laughing for the horse pun was incredibly obvious. Of course the others didn’t get the joke and I quit laughing. Celestia then told Twilight that her and her friends should take me down to Ponyville and help get ready for Nightmare Night. I asked what Nightmare Night was and Twilight gave me a thorough explanation. Realizing that Nightmare Night was essentially Halloween, I asked what I could do to help. Twilight kindly responded that they didn’t need any help. I was disappointed but then asked where I would stay. Twilight offered to let me stay in the library where she lived. I, being interested in the history of these strange ponies immediately accepted her offer and Twilight showed me to the library.

Chapter 6

After studying for a few days, I thought of a plan for Nightmare Night. I loved to scare people on Halloween back on Earth and would show the ponies the same courtesy on Nightmare Night. I then told Twilight’s assistant Spike that I was going out and started for the nearest tailor. As luck would have it, one of Twilight’s friends, Rarity, is a seamstress in Ponyville, so I went and asked her to make me a black cloak to wear and a paper-mâché horse skull to wear as a mask. She was confused but then proceeded to fulfill my strange request. After these items were done, I headed back to the library to see Twilight. When I arrived at the library, Spike told me that Twilight was out for the day. Irritated that I would not get to ask Twilight for a spell, I decided to study Pegasus anatomy to try and learn how to fly. After several hours of failure, Twilight returned and I asked her for a favor. After I told her, she said that she could help but was confused as to why I wanted an illusion spell on the mask. I told her my plan, and she sighed and asked me what I wanted the illusion to be. I told her that I wanted the mask to appear to be a real skull whenever I put it on. She put the spell on the mask obviously confused about me. Afterwards, Spike made us dinner and then he and Twilight went to sleep as I decided to study flight again.

Chapter 7

The next day, having my Nightmare Night preparations done, I asked Twilight if there were any pegasi in Ponyville to help me learn to fly. She said that the only one that could help was Rainbow Dash, mentioning that the local mailmare wouldn’t be much help. I then set out to try and find Rainbow Dash. I found her napping on a cloud just outside of Ponyville and asked her to help me learn to fly. At first she laughed that I didn't know how to fly and then stopped when she realized that I almost outran her without flying. She then agreed and after hours of practice and effort, I had managed to hover a few feet above the ground. The next day, we started out reviewing what I had learned from yesterday and then after a few more hours of effort I flew for the first time! I was so happy that I could’ve hugged Rainbow right there. After my first flight, Rainbow wanted to see how fast I could fly. We set up a little race to find out how fast I could go. It started how pretty much how you’d expect me to fly against one of Equestria’s top fliers. But about halfway through the race, I flapped as hard as I could and caught up to her. When she saw me catch up, she went even faster! I saw her literally break the sound barrier, creating a sonic boom and a rainbow at the same time. Not to be outdone, I sped up and felt myself tear through the sound barrier, also creating a sonic boom but instead of a brightly colored rainbow, I created a wave of dark colors. Now Rainbow and I were neck and neck on the last leg of the race. We ended up crossing at the same time, Rainbow couldn't believe how close she was to losing a race. Apparently she always won her races with a massive lead. Impressed, she suggested that I become an athlete and fly in races against her so that she could have some competition. Realizing that I would need a steady income if I was to stay here for an extended amount of time, I agreed that it would be a good idea but it would have to wait until I could get a job.

Chapter 8

Nightmare Night crept up on me after spending a few days searching for work. Applejack didn’t need any help until “applebucking season”. The post office was full, and no salesponies wanted a strange, new pegasus tending their stands. My only hope seemed to be in Cloudsdale, where they needed another weatherpony to help with Ponyville. But they didn’t need help until after Nightmare Night. As Nightmare Night came closer, however, my excitement grew. When it finally arrived, I was practically  bouncing off the walls. Twilight didn’t understand my excitement but let me be. When night fell, I donned the cloak, put on the mask and went out the door. After spending a few hours frightening foals, fillies, and colts, I saw that Big Macintosh was running a hay ride. There was a pretty long line and it would take a couple hours to go through them all. Seeing that there was a spare wagon, I offered to help Mac with the line. A few “eeyups” later, I was hooked up to the wagon with six fillies and colts chattering to each other. Halfway through, I saw a commotion go on by the square and saw a few fillies with Pinkie Pie dressed as a chicken with a burn mark on the end of her costume running scared. Later, after Zecora took the young ponies to tell them about Nightmare Night, I heard a crack of thunder and saw the sky fill up with swirling clouds. Then out of a hole in the clouds a large pony in a strange carriage pulled by strange looking ponies landed in the square. The large pony jumped out of the carriage and it turned out to be Princess Luna! All the ponies started cowering in fear as if she were still Nightmare Moon. Luna started to yell very loudly and scared the ponies even more. After being frustrated by their fear, Luna left and Twilight followed her. A few minutes after they left, things started calming down. About a half hour later, Pinkie and her group of ponies ran screaming back into town. A little while later, Luna and Twilight returned and talked to Applejack. After talking to her, Luna started to play a few games and the townsponies started to like her again. But a tiny colt fell in the apple-bobbing pool and when Luna saved him, Pinkie started to scream and run. Luna got a little carried away and animated the toy spiders to gather around the target. Everypony started freaking out and Luna got mad again and cancelled Nightmare Night. Needless to say, all the children started crying and Twilight ran off to try and fix everything. After loading up a final wagonload, I started walking around Ponyville heard lightning hit nearby, and heard Pinkie shriek again, I was really getting tired of it. I then took the children to the Nightmare Moon statue and Luna proceeded to scare all of us pretty well. The tiny colt went up and asked her to do it again next year. After things cleared up, I took the wagon back to Mac, lowered my hood, and went to the library and slept.

Chapter 9

The next day, a grey pegasus with strange eyes delivered a letter from Cloudsdale. It seemed that they wanted me to help the current weatherpony in Ponyville. I then traveled above Ponyville to meet with the weatherpony in charge. Much to my surprise the weatherpony was none other than Rainbow Dash. Apparently she wasn't expecting me either. We talked for a little bit and then got to work.
