Twilight was slowly waking up. In her half-conscious state, she briefly wondered why she was sleeping outside, instead of her nice, warm bed. Her body felt stiff, uncomfortable, and not hers.
She got up to stretch. Her hooves felt weird, and her body felt as if she had done one of the morphing spells she had been working one for the last couple months. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
She looked down the street, and was suddenly surprised. All down the street were monsters, monsters as big as she was. Some were bigger, some were slightly smaller, but most were about her size.
She wracked her brain trying to think. Were these creatures hostile? Was this the reason she was passed out on the street, because she was fighting these monsters and had run out of power?
One of the creatures near her started to stir in its sleep. It looked like a bear cub, had a crescent moon shape on its face, and was slightly smaller than her. She stepped away warily, and as she did, she noticed something.
She didn’t have hooves. Her normal feet were transformed into paws, and as she looked down at her body, she noticed other changes. Her strong, pony flank was now lithe, like a cat’s. She thanked Luna’s stars that her cutie mark was still there. Her tail was the same colors as it always was, but instead of a plume of hair sprouting out of her butt, she had a skinny, whip-like tail that split into a V three fourths of the way down. She felt her head with her new paws, and felt two overly large ears, and some sort of gem where her horn used to be.
Twilight probably would have started hyperventilating, if the little bear cub thing hadn’t woken up and started to move towards her.
“Wow. A real espeon. I don’t believe it,” the cub murmured.
Twilight couldn’t believe it for a completely different reason. The bear cub sounded just like one of the local colts, and if Twilight remembered correctly, his name was Button Mash. The little guy had been pressuring her to buy more books for the library that had to revolve around video games, and had come every other day to see if she had bought them yet.
“Button Mash?” she asked, incredulous. “Do you know what happened?”
“Whoa Twilight! Why are you an espeon? “Button asked. He stared at her for a moment. ”Yea, I guess that makes sense. I never knew you liked Pokémon!”
Twilight shook her head for a moment. She suddenly remembered why she had come outside in the first place. There were large, blue pulses of magic radiating from outside of Ponyvile. She had moved out of the library to investigate further when the explosion of magic power hit. A sudden flash of pain had hit her before she passed out.
“Uh, Twilight?” Button asked nervously. He only just seemed to figure out what he was. ”Why am I a teddiursa?”
Twilight looked at him questioningly. The look on her face must have said it all.
Button sighed, and acted like he was talking to a child. ”Pokémon is a game you collect little monsters and battle them against each other. Everypony knows that.”
Twilight still didn’t get it.
Button snorted, and set down a book that he had been carrying in his saddlebag in front of her. “Here, just take this. It has a list of all the Pokémon since generation 1, and their types.”
The newly made pony-pokémons started to wake around them. Any of the ones who were awake had sort of a sleepy panic across their face. Button looked around, and then looked back at Twilight. “I gotta go. Mom won’t be happy if I’m around when the panic starts.” He tried to trot away, but the pokémon he had transformed into wasn’t built that way. He landed flat on his face.
He started wailing “Moooooomm” and sobbing. It sounded almost like his original wail, but with a hoarse, bear cub undertone. Then he sat up, wiped his tears, and slung his saddlebag over his shoulder. This time he waddled away on two legs and managed not to fall over. He disappeared around the corner, and despite herself, she smiled. Button Mash was a good kid, if not a little immature.
Not two seconds afterwards though, one of the pokémon near her started screaming. No matter what Twilight did, she couldn’t get her to stop.
Oh Celestia’s sunbut, Twilight thought, what am I going to do now?
