Finn's Story
A Life Changer
Load Full StoryNow…there was silence in the beige foal for quite a while, but now he was not a foal 19 years later, he was a colt, an educated colt at that, he was able to get used to his surrounding, looking at the people all around him and slowly begin to understand civilization, words, meanings, things, places, languages, pictures, art, music, science, and everything the world had to throw at this 19 year old Pegasus, the one flaw he had…however, was the inability of being able to be able to communicate fluently, in other words, he was very shy.
A beige hoof touched a stone on a pathway to give out a faint clop, and the noise continued to repeat in the afternoon atmosphere, clop, clop, clop, calming around everywhere, luscious plants, insects and creatures so cute and innocent were on the sides of the pathway, our hero walking to a building with a flickering lime green sign that read “Sugar Cube Corner”, on the top of a neon blue and pink and yellow building, he slowly then let his head fall down to meet the door, little chatters of this and that being thrown around to talk to others, giggles, laughs, smiles, were everywhere.
Everyone’s head then turned and everything went silent, no one continued to eat, and their entire eyebrow’s arched down, even the kids, even a toddler in the corner of the room!
Finn slowly looked around, a frown and a quivering lip on his face, he slowly began to trot to the cashier’s counter, slowly lifting his head to meet a pink face with arched eyebrows, they blinked for a second, and a pink curly and frizzy mane’s end bounced in front of the pink pony.
“I don’t serve demons sir…” said the pink pony, it was now confirmed that this was a female, and it was the very owner of the building who usually made everyone smile, but not for Finn, not for Finn, Pinkie Pie, was the owner. His lip began to quiver more and a small tear fell out silently, “I’m…n-not a dem-“ Pinkie Pie interrupted, “Yes you are, you know you are, and maybe that’s why nopony likes you, sir.”
The beige Pegasus’ heart crumbled, and tightened his eyes shut and tears trickled out, he slowly sat on his hind end on the floor, and slowly began to lie down on the floor, hiding his face in his hooves and silently crying.
Everyone in the room than begin quietly chuckling or laughing, looking at the beige Pegasus with pride of the owner of the restraunt being able to let those words flow out her mouth. The sobs grew a slight bit louder as time flew by a bit.
Then the door to the restraunt creaked open slowly.
A white furry hoof slowly met it’s way on the floor of the building, a pointy and almost seemingly electric blue tail and mane with sky blue combined in with both the mane and tail of this pony. Finn’s attention did not focus on this pony, as he was too busy weeping his tears on the floor quietly still. Everyone’s eyes widened in shock of this pony, as they realized exactly who this pony was, what she did, and what she was best at doing.
The small muffled clops of her hooves came louder to Finn’s ears, as they slowly perked up; she began to grow closer and closer to the counter. Finn’s quiet sobs began to weakly die down slowly, and he lifted his head up sadly, and looked up, meeting a white furry face, an arched eyebrow, and maroon eyes.
His eyes widened in less than a second, shock filled him, so many things were coming back to him so quickly, his tears dried quickly, automatically knew that female tone of voice that was soft and tender to him when he was in high school, he remembered every single bit of how her voice sounded, how much he…had feelings for her, secretly of course.
“Whoah….erm…sir…nice eyes…heh…”
He stood up, “V-V-Vinyl!? Is that really you!?” he said in a slightly louder, but barely at all loud tone of voice that sounded cute and innocent.
Her eyes slightly widened, and whispered “H-How do you know my name? Are you a stalker? Did you spy on me while I was growing up?” she asked in rapid succession.
He then stopped smiling, but did not frown, “Oh, you…don’t remember me..?” Finn said in a softer and more innocent tone of voice.
“No….I….well….you…look….no….I don’t remember you…sir…”
He stared at the ground and went through his mind of all the moments he spent with Vinyl in high school, he remembered very clearly that they we’re best friends in high school, the bestest friend’s nearly in the entire school. Then he hit gold and thought of an idea,
“Erm….do….you…want….to know?” he asked softly.
She then took a minute to contemplate and she thought she then nodded slowly.
Finn smiled and slowly turned around, walking over to an empty table, beckoning her over and she listened and came over, taking a seat on one side of the table, while Finn sat on the other side, everyone’s eyes locked on both Finn and Vinyl, in confusion of the moment, of why a mare like this would want to talk to a stallion like this, a demon talking to a mare was so confusing!
“Uhm….sir…before you explain yourself sir…do you…mind telling me…why your eyes are glowing?” she said softly.
Finn softly smiled and his eyes were lime green. “They depict my mood, see? I’m very happy to see you,” he said sweetly.
“Oh….I see…so….the colors….show mood?” she said.
“Yeah, but…everyone gets the wrong idea that I’m a demon though…because of it…” he said a little sadly.
“Aww…I don’t think they show you’re a demon, not at all…” she said calmly.
Finn lightly blushed under his beige furry cheeks, “T-Thank you………now…I’m going to tell you how I know you okay?” she then nodded very slowly.
Finn cleared his throat and took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a bit, and re-opening them after a short while and looking into Vinyl’s eyes.
“Do you r-remember what h-high school you went to?”
She rested her hooves on the table and stared at them, tapping them constantly and looking for an answer in her mind, after a short while, she responded with, “Ponyville High.”
Finn smiled, as he knew his progression with her would hopefully kick in for her to remember who he was, what he was great at, and other things related to Finn.
“Do erm….you…r-remember…that day…when all those…people…crowded…you…for your album, I…was….in the midst of it…and…”
“Oh…dear Celestia…that was horrible…but…someone…came…and defended me…wait…was that…” she quickly looked up at Finn, studying the features of his face, his rosy beige cheeks, lime green and sky blue mixed eyes, the cute white hat with the ears that nearly dangled over his face slightly, and then it hit her.
All the girls and boys from the last hour of school crowded her in the hallway, one boy holding her up against a locker, holding up fur around Vinyl’s neck, and they all said together “You have no right making music….” And they repeated and repeated and repeated.
A pair of sky blue eyes was then on the other side of the crowd, out of it all and saw Vinyl and the bully, and heard there chants, he then gritted his teeth and his eyes turned blood red, and he kicked his hoof at the floor, charging through the crowd and turning his back, bucking the bully into a trashcan out of vision, everyone else running out the hallway screaming.
“A-AND YOU HAVE NO R-RIGHT TO BE J-JEALOUS OF HER T-TALENTS!”
“Finn!” Vinyl said sobbing loudly and wrapped her arms around Finn’s back, boring her face into his shoulder and began to sob loudly.
“Vinyl!” Finn said full of worry in his voice, hugging back Vinyl tightly as she hugged him, calming her loud sobs and patted her back.
After a long while, her sobs ceded to exist, and Finn slowly parted his lips,
“Don’t worry Vinyl, this will never happen again…
“I promise…” Vinyl said slowly out of mind, not realizing that she was in a sort of trance.
Finn looked at her questioningly and asked “Is everything all right?” She slowly looked up and stared into Finn’s eyes softly, “Finn? Is it…really you?” she asked very quietly.
Finn smiled and nodded, “It’s g-great to s-see you, best friend.”
She smiled widely and scooted quickly over to Finn’s side of the table, coming closer to Finn and pulling him in her arms, leaning him slightly as he still slightly sat, excited that her best friend was right here, right now. She couldn’t help but every so often squeeze Finn in her arms and keep her grip tightened.
Finn’s face then began tinting a bit of scarlet, looking up at Vinyl shyly and wrapped a wing around her back, hugging her tightly as well, tightening his gentle grip, but never to where it was unbearable.
“How could I forget my best…friend…” Vinyl said a bit sadly.
“Vinyl…you…had to…”
“Why did I have to..?”
“Because if you didn’t, you wouldn’t be who you are right now….you wouldn’t be this famous, amazing, and erm….yeah…” he said softly, slowly adding onto the amount of scarlet that showed on his face.
“I wouldn’t have made…”
“4x4=12….a-and that would leave you t-to not be…as….f-famous as you are…today…”
“Yeah…I missed you so much! You’re my best friend and I forgot about you!”
“Vinyl, it’s alright,” he said softly and looked into her maroon eyes, “you are always forgiven, and always have been remembered.”
Vinyl smiled and tightened her gentle grip around Finn, filled with excitement still that her best friend was here. Finn just sat there in Vinyl’s arms and purred softly, hugging back tighter and tighter, but never too tight in his gentle grip, his cheeks only growing more scarlet with each second passing by.
Finn looked up at Vinyl “I’m glad you’re here Vinyl, I really, really am.” Finn said with a smile as his he felt hooves completely around his neck, blushing as he couldn’t hug back from his arms, since his back was to her side, but was able to hug her back with a wing.
“I am too Finn…I really….really am.” Vinyl said with a smile and blushed a bit as she said that.
A little bit of a while began to pass as the two began conversing deeper about their lives, a little chuckle and giggle to muster out of one another every so often, and after an hour passed, it was now 8:09, pony time.
Vinyl giggled a soft bit at Finn’s cute attitude, and his inability to do good jokes, not purposely to hurt him, but she just did it because she thought it was cute. “Erm….V-Vinyl…I have a question…” he asked very softly and shyly.
“What’s that Finn?” Vinyl said in a softer voice.
“Erm…I was wondering if….we…erm….if we…could…go…out…to eat…at…Midnight Mare…” Finn said as his face grew with more blush as he mustered every word.
Vinyl grinned widely at both this question and the cuteness of how he asked it, “Are you asking me on a date..?” she grinned even wider after she was thinking he’d say yes.
“Erm…yes! I…I…mean…erm…no….erm…uhh….” his face was now completely red, and he glanced around with swiftness, filling up with shyness, “uhh…..heheh………….” he looked down and and squeezed his eyes shut, saying with a crack in his voice from shyness, “Yes…”
Vinyl smiled a bit more and scooted a bit closer, leaning Finn over and making him lean into her for another hug, “I’d love to do that Finn.”
Finn smiled and blushed a bit harder with Vinyl as he now lay slightly in her arms, purring softly at the soft feeling of her arms and hooves that wrapped themselves around him.
Then the noise of a gunshot was heard, and Finn looked up quickly, Vinyl tightening her grip around him out of instinct, and gasped, looking around quickly, shaking softly and Finn rested a hoof on her back and patted it with gentle motions.
“It’s alright, I got this Vinyl, don’t be s-scared…be right back.” Finn said, with a soft smile, and which turned as he bolted out the double door, the crowd of people that was once in the building, now stormed after Finn in wonder of what he would do now, all except Vinyl, who stayed there in her booth, worried about what had happened, and that Finn would be ok.
Finn rushed around the vicinity of where the screaming was located, looking around at some houses which all had closed doors, all except one, and he bolted into the doorway to stare at the barrel of a gun.
“S-Stay back! I-I-‘I’ll kill her!” the dark stallion said as he began backing up as he held a mare in his other wing, over her mouth, the barrel stayed on Finn as he backed up a bit, a crowd of people behind him, all faces scared, and they backed up a way bit more than Finn anticipated.
“Don’t do s-something yo-you’ll regret sir,” Finn came closer very slowly “please…you’re b-better…t-t-than this…” Finn was coming ever so closer, finding the now shaking barrel of a gun.
“F-Finn!?” Vinyl stormed right in the house and found the barrel of the gun now pointed at her, and Finn then heard the safety of the gun click off.
“N-NO!!!!” Finn pulled out his sword at the last second with a wing, squatting down and jumping in the way of the gun, and threw his sword widely at the man.
A loud bang then rang around Ponyville.
Both, three synced thuds could be heard, the scared-for-her-life mare screamed of terror and now bolted out of Vinyl’s way, and out the door, into the shocked and stunned crowd.
“FINN!!” Vinyl bolted right by Finn’s side and flipped him gently over, looking at his shirt and found blood dripping from his shoulder, watching and feeling as tears began to fall from her eyes, seeing the tears hit the upper area of his shirt, and sobbed softly as Finn lay limp.
After a bit of time, Finn’s eyes then twitched for a second, and Vinyl noticed and gasped.
“Finn!? Are you…ok!?” Vinyl said with the highest worry in her voice.
Finn’s eyes then slowly fluttered open, the soft sky blue looked up at her with a weak smile. “F-Finn! You’re ok!” Vinyl wrapped her arms around his back in quick motion, putting his face in her chest and softly sniffled and lightly sobbed.
Finn closed his eyes again and weakly put a right wing and a left hoof around Vinyl, the audience captivated by the hero’s brave and risky move, questioning now how they thought of him, and what he really was, even a pair of blue eyes and pink fur we’re absolutely shocked by what Finn had done, and chatter was heard in the crowd, everyone looked around and someone asked out loud, “Do you need a medic!?”
Finn looked up and barely said “N-No…h-he only got…my shoulder…I’ll be fine…it went straight through and out, some…w-wrap w-will do…”
The pony then nodded and looked towards the crowd, “Let’s give them their time everyone, they’ve been in need of it.”
Everyone slowly nodded and scattered everywhere in separate directions, continuous clops heard against cobblestone paths.
Vinyl slowly brought her head back to meet her friend’s eyes, sniffling “W-Why did you do that?”
Finn blushed softly, sighing and closing his eyes, “I…I’ve held…a…secret…since…h-high school…a-and…I’ll…I’ll be ready…to…say it…at Midnight Mare…” he opened his eyes, “I just couldn’t let him…s-shoot you…I…couldn’t…”
She sat there holding him, shocked a bit, wondering what he’d been hiding for all these years for a bit, but a little bit more concerned about his state, and sighed softly, reaching to clear her tears with a hoof, but Finn lifted his left wing up to Vinyl’s cheeks and wiped them off, slowly binding his left wing back up afterwards.
“A-Alright…ok…good…do…you want me to help you up?”
Finn looked up at Vinyl innocently, “Are you sure?”
“Yes Finn, I am.”
“O-Okay…then y-yes…please….and…thank…..you…”
Vinyl softly smiled and slightly stood up, slowly wrapping her hooves around Finn’s arms and pulling him up, grabbing where his wing connected to his body gently and wrapped it around her side for support.
Finn blushed lightly, “T-Thank you…V-V-Vinyl…”
“It’s alright, can you stand on your own?”
“I…I think…”
“Let’s check…first…”
Vinyl slowly unwrapped Finn’s left wing from her back, and slowly rested a hoof on his back as he wobbled for a second, and looked down, standing still and moving around a bit, smiling proudly.
“T-Thank you….s-so much Vinyl…”
“It’s alright….so…I can meet up with you at 7:30..? Because I’m working on a track at the studio…”
Finn smiled, “7:30 sounds fine to me Vinyl.”
Vinyl smiled with Finn and walked up to him, giving him a last hug, and pulling away , whispering softly to him sweetly, “See you till then...Finn.”
Vinyl slowly then walked out into the dark night, and Finn blushed madly, fixing the collar of his shirt, and walking in the opposite direction into the night.
