No Going Back

“Long, Long ago in Canterlot, there was a pony named Golden Dust. She was a small unicorn who couldn’t do any magic. She always looked up to her big sister Swaying Leaf, who could control nature with her horn. She grew more jealous every day, so she used her building skills to build a mirror. She used some of Swaying Leaf’s magic plants, so the mirror was magical. She passed through the mirror, but she was never seen again, all that was left from her was a note that read:
No Going Back.
More ponies have passed through this mirror, their envy and jealousy for other ponies controlling them, and they were never seen again. Some ponies would look into the mirror. Sandhoof was one of these ponies. He said that his little sister went in there, and he looked in the mirror, and he could have sworn that he saw her little sisters ghost like face looking at him. But the next day, reporters found Sandhoof underneath the mirror, dead. On him was a blood-stained note that read:
No Going Back.
Princess Celestia ordered the mirror to be destroyed, but the mirror was unbreakable. So she had it buried in Ponyville, right underneath the library where Twilight lives. At night, the citizens of Ponyville can hear the mirror humming, waiting for its next victim.” Sweetie Belle finishes. I laugh.
“What a lame story!” I say.
“Scootaloo, its really true. Sandhoof died fifty years ago.” Sweetie Belle insists.
“You’re just trying to scare me.” I spat.
“Well, if you don’t believe me, thats your problem. I’ll be right back. Rarity needs me and Applebloom for something.” Sweetie Belle and Applebloom leave. I start to think about her story. A magic mirror seems too princessy, even though it apparently killed a pony. I scoff at the idea and start some wing-ups.
“Maybe I’ll get my cutie mark in wing-ups.” I say to myself. I was going to say it to somepony, but there was no pony around, so it was to myself.
“Opps. I dropped my stopwatch.” My stopwatch falls into a hole. I dug to try and find it, but its like it disappeared. Or passed through a magic mirror. No. I shake my head. Sweetie Belle’s ghost story was starting to scare me. I continue digging.
My hoof hits something solid. I start to dig more when I find a brown chest. I use whatever strength I have and pull it out. A hole about the size of my stopwatch was on the top. I peer into it. I see something shiny. Something shiny and BIG. she tried to open it. Locked. I look around and pick up a leaf.
“Ha! This won’t work at all!” I say. I push the chest around the back of the library and dig the hole back to its original state. I go into the library and see Twilight fumbling with something in her hooves. Its a key!
“Maybe thats the key to the chest.” I say to myself. Twilight hears me walk toward her and drops the key on the ground. She covers it with her hoof.
“Scootaloo! You scared me!” Twilight said.
“Oh. Sorry. I just wanted a little water. Can you get some for me?”
“Okay.” Twilight goes to get some water, leaving the key exposed. I take the key and hide it in my mane just as Twilight comes back with a water bottle.
“Here Scootaloo.” Twilight says. She goes back to her “work.” I say bye and go back outside to the chest. I try the key. Sure enough, the chest opens.
In it is a very large mirror. I gasp. A mirror? Was it the mirror from Sweetie Belle’s story? I take the mirror out and propped it against a wall. It was a rusty bronze mirror with a dirty glass. I put my hoof on it. It passes right THROUGH it. I gasp.
“Oh my gosh! It is the magic mirror!!” I look into it. I see a ghost-like pony standing behind me. I scream and whip my head around. There is no one there. I look back at the mirror. The pony is gone, but there is red writing on the mirror. Writing that looked a lot like blood.
Hello Scootaloo.
I scream. The writing changes.
Come into the mirror Scootaloo. We know you want to.
I look at the writing. It is true that I wanted to go into it, but if this part of Sweetie Belle’s story was true, then was this?
I look at it. By now the blood had dripped down to the bottom of the mirror. I gulp. Should I? No, the jealousy was taking over me. Don’t let it in. Don’t welcome it. I look at the mirror again. The image in the mirror had changed. It was no longer my reflection, but a sort of candy sugar land. Creepy carnival music started playing and the image showed a happy little gold filly licking a lollypop. I smile. Sweetie Belle was over exaggerating. There was nothing harmful about this mirror. I’ll be in and out. I just want one of those lollipops. I lick my lips and step into the mirror. I had walked a few steps when I start to realize what I have done. The land inside the mirror was not a candy sugar land, but a fire death land. I turn around to go out of the mirror, but the mirror just rebounds me back in.
I look out of the mirror into Ponyville. Sweetie Belle is standing there, a horrified look on her face. Twilight walks into the frame.
“Wow, you’re right Sweetie Belle. That is the mirror.” Twilight remarks.
“I saw a ghost in the mirror apparently standing behind me. It looked so much like Scootaloo.” Sweetie Belle starts crying. Twilight puts a hoof on Sweetie Belle’s shoulder. I turn around and run to the edge of the cliff. I sit on the edge, my tears falling from my face into the flaming gorge. The ground sizzles, bringing a burnt-smelling aroma up from it. I turn away and walk away from it, my eyes burning. Suddenly, a flash fire appears and a demon-ish thing pops up.
“SCOOTALOO! YOU HAVE STEPPED INTO THE MIRROR! PREPARE TO MEET YOUR DOOM!” It screams.
“Wuh-what? NO! Please! Let me leave!” I plead. The demon stares at me, eyes cold and unforgiving. He picks me up and throws me into the pit. As I fall, I scream. A tear falls off my face.
Then I close my eyes.
~~~~~~
“Scootaloo! Oh Scootaloo!” I scream as I look for the small orange filly. After about an hour, I give up. Ugh. Where could that filly be? I think. Suddenly, I hear crying coming from the library. I take off and fly as fast as I can, my rainbow tail fluttering behind me. As I reach the big oak tree, I spot Sweetie Belle kneeling in front of a mirror, crying her eyes out. Beside her, Twilight stood there, a hoof laying on Sweetie Belle’s shoulder.
“What is going on here? Wait. Is that the Gold Dust Mirror? Don’t tell me-” I start to cry as Twilight nods.
“I’m so sorry Rainbow Dash. She was a really good-”
“NO!” I interrupt, “LEAVE ME ALONE!” I fly away as fast as my wings could take me. I look around. I’m directly above Sweet Apple Acres. I fly a little bit more. Now I am in the Everfree Forest. I try to fly back, but I can’t really see anything. The fog is too thick. I land. Maybe I can walk out. I start to walk forward, but all I see is trees and trees for miles. I give up and sit at the root of a tree.
After what seems like hours, I see something moving in the distance. I squint. I can make out a small pegasus. A small ORANGE pegasus. I stand up and walk toward it.
“Scootaloo! You’re alive!” But it is not Scootaloo. It is a small ghost staring at me, a tear frozen on her face. I look her up and down. She looks like Scootaloo with the orange pelt, pink mane, and everything. But she has burns and scars on her, as if she was caught in a fire. I gasp and back away. She bares her teeth and lunges at me.
“NOOO!” The crows take off above the trees.
Rainbow Dash’s funeral was held 3 days after her death. People think the ghost of Scootaloo was the one that murdered her, but there was no proof of her dying, since her body was not found. Few only know the real horrifying secret that Scootaloo had gone in the mirror but not come out. As Sweetie Belle and Twilight walked away from that cursed mirror that depressing day, the only thing that stayed behind was the mirror and a note that read:
No Going Back.
