The Twins Who Bake Together
In a small cottage sitting on the outer edges of Ponyville, near the train station that took ponies out of the town or into the town, was a gray-coated and yellow-maned pegasus mare, an image of six bubbles on her flank, and a pair of golden eyes that occasionally looked in different directions. She hummed to herself as she trotted about her home, pulling various different things out of her cupboard and cabinets; a bag of flower, a container of milk, a bag of sugar, a bottle of vanilla, eggs, baking powder, butter, tablespoons, a mixing bowl, filling tips, and the most of important thing of all:
A muffin pan.
Nodding to herself in satisfaction as she looked over all the items on her countertop, the mare's ears perked up when she heard a knocking on her front door.
"Come in!" she yelled, flying through her house and landing in front of the door, eagerly awaiting the pony on the other side.
The door flew open, and another pony quickly entered the house. It was a stallion, whose colors were exactly the same as the mare: A gray coat, a yellow mane, and bright golden colored eyes. The only difference in appearance between the two ponies was their Cutie Marks - his was an image of a jar of grape jelly with a spoon.
Well, that and the fact that one of them was a mare and the other was a stallion.
Oh, and the mare was a pegasus, but the stallion was an Earth pony. Did I forget to mention that?
Now how can two ponies look almost exactly the same, you ask?
...Well, they're twins. Duh.
(If you want to know how a pegasus and an Earth pony can be twins, ask the Cakes, because I sure as Faust still don't understand it. Now get back to the story, who knows how long those two have been standing there waiting for me to shut up!)
"Dippy!" Derpy Hooves shouted, launching herself to hug her bigger twin brother around the neck.
"Derpy!" Dippy Doo cried happily, hugging his smaller twin sister back.
Derpy quickly let go of Dippy and gave him a big grin. "Do you got the jelly?" she asked, an excited smile appearing on her face.
Dippy grinned back, and opened up the saddlebags hanging over his back. When he lifted his head up, he was proudly holding two jars of jelly in his mouth, one strawberry and one blueberry.
"Shtrawburry fah ya," he said, mouth full of jars. "Bluhberreh fah meh!"
"Yeah!" Derpy cheered, turning and flying off into the kitchen. "Come on Dippy, the muffins won't wait forever!"
"Okay!" Dippy said, opening his mouth to respond to his sister. Both jars of jelly slipped out of his hold and crashed onto the floor, breaking into shards of glass and splattering the contents everywhere.
Dippy looked down at the broken jars with wide eyes. Derpy poked her head out of the kitchen, curious about the sudden noise, and she gasped in horror at the sight.
The twins stared at the mess on the ground for a few moments. Then Dippy turned his head back and rustled through the contents of his saddlebags once again, causing Derpy to look over at him curiously. He lifted his head back up and revealed two more jars of strawberry and blueberry flavored jelly in his mouth. Derpy cheered happily, then disappeared back into the kitchen. Dippy merrily followed after her, both completely ignoring the glassy, gelatin mess in the front room.
(Don't worry, they clean it up later!...But only after Derpy steps on some glass by accident. Ouch. Plus there's the jelly stains, but that's what unicorns are for!...Sorry, getting off topic, back to the muffins!)
Setting her oven to preheat at 300 degrees, Derpy turned to her brother and grinned. Her brother grinned back, before both ponies picked up large white chef hats and plopped them onto their heads.
"Baking time!" they both cried.
"So, how's your jelly store?" Derpy asked, pouring flour into her mixing bowl. Once there was enough flour, Derpy dropped the bag onto the counter, and started pouring in sugar.
"Business is getting better," Dippy said with a shrug. He opened up the milk, took a drink straight from the jug, then poured the rest of the milk into the bowl. "I think everypony is forgetting the Hearts and Hooves day thing,"
Derpy shook her head and clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "I told you that trying to advertise your store by sitting in a giant jar of jelly in the middle of Ponyville would just come off as creepy," she said.
"Yes, but it was still fun!" Dippy replied with a smile.
"Oh, it looked like so much fun! I'd love to be baked into a giant muffin!" Derpy said dreamily, mixing the ingredients together inside the bowl, not noticing as she accidentally caused some of the batter to get all over the counter and floor.
Dippy rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Wouldn't you die?" he asked after a second.
Derpy thought it over, then shrugged. "I don't know. But it'd be a nice way to go - surrounded by warm, fluffy, muffin goodness!"
Dippy nodded in agreement. "Totally!" he said, before picking up two eggs. He smashed them together in-between his hooves, then let the yolk slip into the bowl, somehow keeping the broken shells stuck on his hooves. He quickly brushed them off, neither sibling caring all that much as the shells dropped onto the ground.
"I think the mix is almost done!" Derpy said excitedly. Dippy watched his sister whip up the batter, and he was nearly drooling.
"What kind of batter did you get?"
"Vanilla! I think vanilla muffins would go great with jelly!" Derpy answered.
"Awww, I like chocolate chip better," Dippy said, ears dropping a bit.
"Well, we'll do that next time!" Derpy promised, causing Dippy to cheer up almost instantly. "Ooh, the mix looks ready! You wanna pour it into the pan?"
"Sure," Dippy eagerly grabbed the bowl out of Derpy's hooves (Heh heh, Derpy's hooves. Derpy Hooves. Get it?) and placed himself in front of the pan. Very carefully, which is something Dippy doesn't do often, he poured the batter into the eight-hole muffin tray. He did manage to spill some of the batter onto the counter and the floor, but neither he and Derpy noticed. They were too fixated on their future treats.
"Goodie!" Derpy cheered as Dippy finished pouring the batter into the pan. "Come on, put in the oven!" she said, bouncing and flittering her wings.
"Okay, hold your humans!" Dippy said, smiling at his excited sister. Opening the oven, he slid them inside, not even flinching as the hot oven burned his mittenless hoof. Closing the oven, he turned to his sister, who was setting a small timer.
"Now we just got to wait twenty minutes," Derpy said, setting the timer on the counter.
"Aw, I hate the waiting part," Dippy said sadly.
"Me too," Derpy agreed, lowering her eyes.
The twins stood there, wallowing in their muffinless existences, before Derpy lifted her head. "Wanna have a staring contest while we wait?" she asked.
Dippy nodded his head enthusiastically. "Sure!" he said. The twins quickly plopped their rumps on the ground, not noticing when the simultaneous actions caused small cracks to be broken into Derpy's kitchen floor (Destructive posteriors are a family trait after all), widened their eyes, and stared fiercely at the others eyes.
Derpy's left one drifted off.
"Hey, no cheating!"
It slowly drifted back to it's original position.
"That's better,"
Twenty minutes later...
The timer clicked, causing the twins to blink their extremely red eyes at the same time.
"Wait, who won?" Dippy asked.
Derpy narrowed her eyes at him. "Rematch....after muffins," she said.
Dippy smirked. "You're on!" he said, standing up. "But first..."
"JELLY MUFFINS!" they both cried. Derpy opened up the oven, and smiled happily as she saw the muffins had been baked perfectly. "Oh, they look so yummy!" she said happily.
Pulling them out, Derpy placed the pan on the counter. Dippy quickly opened up the two jars of jelly he had brought.
"Strawberry for you," he said, handing his sister a spoon. "And blueberry for me!"
Working silently, but with big smiles on their faces, Derpy and Dippy filled up the filling tips with their preferred jelly flavors. Once that was done, they took positions of either side of the tray, and each stuck the tips into four muffins, squeezing the baggy so that jelly would fill up the inside of the muffin.
"And.....done!" Derpy cheered.
Looking happily at their creations, Dippy suddenly got a mean idea, and he grinned evilly at his twin sister.
Derpy cocked an eyebrow at him. "What?" she asked.
A wad of strawberry jelly suddenly hit her in the eye. Gasping, Derpy glared at her laughing brother, who was holding the spoon from the strawberry jelly jar. He stopped laughing when a lob of blueberry jelly hit him square in the face.
Instantly, the kitchen descended into a flurry of flying jam, each side of the epic war attempting to spoon the most jelly into their opponents faces. They started the battle off giving war cries and battle roars, but they quickly descended into hysterical giggling. Eventually, Derpy and Dippy collapsed on the ground, each of them laughing too hard to continue the fight. The walls and floor of the kitchen were covered in jelly, but they didn't care.
After a few minutes, they managed to stop laughing and stand up. Each of the twins picked up one of their muffins, now covered in extra jelly. Derpy smiled at Dippy, and Dippy smiled back. Lifting up the muffins in their hooves, they gave each other a quick toast.
"Love you bro," Derpy said, chomping on her strawberry jelly filled muffin happily.
"Love you too sis," Dippy replied, biting in his blueberry jelly filled muffin in delight.
Nothing is better than baking with your twin, am I right?
"...Hey Derpy, should we clean this kitchen up?"
"No, I'll just harass Twilight into doing it,"
"Okay!"
