“C’mon, can I please help?”
“No”
“But why?”
Mrs. Cake sighed “I already told you, Pinkie. It’s for the Princess’s visit” Pinkie bounced around her employer excitedly “I won’t mess up, I’ll make sure it’s perfect!” she promised, looking hopefully at the light blue mare.
“No. If you eat even the tiniest bit from this, it will be ruined! I’d have to start all over again, and most of these ingredients were specially ordered, they don’t grow here in Equestria” She said, shooing Pinkie out of the kitchen “But I’ll let you know if I need anything” Pinkie smiled brightly “Awesome! I’m going for a walk” she said, trotting out from behind the till and flipping the sign to “Closed”. she grabbed a cyan coloured cupcake and walked out of the door, humming a tune as she stuck her tongue out to lick the frosting off.
“Hay Pinkie Pie!” Pinkie turned her head and slurped her tongue back into her mouth. Her eyes lit up as she spotted Twilight. “Hia Twi!” she called out, walking over to the princess and putting her cupcake safely in her mane “Something wrong?” she asked, noticing her friend’s dishevelled mane and slightly panicked look. “No no, nothing wrong! Everything’s just fine!” Twilight said “Okay, fine! Everything is not fine” she admitted, plopping her hindquarters on the ground, Pinkie imitating her movement “I’m so worried that the Princess’s visit isn’t going to go smoothly. Wht if the parasprites come back? Or a horde of Pinkie Pie’s invade?” she said, her breath quickening “O-or what if Discord becomes evil again, or what i-“
Twilight’s rant was halted by a pink hoof “Twilight, stop thinking about what ifs. Youll never get anything done that way. This visit is going to work out, trust me” Pinkie said, one hoof under Twilight’s chin and the other gently rested on the purple mare’s cheek. Her soft blue eyes looked into the worn out purple ones of her friend “trust me” she repeated, her voice quiet and pleading. Twilight bit her lip and looked down “sorry Pinkie, guess I kind of let the stress get to me” she said. Pinkie retracted her hooves and stood up with a smile.
“Cupcake?” she asked, reaching into her mane and pulling out the cyan cupcake, holding it out. Twilight smiled at Pinkie’s randomness “sure, why not?” she took the cupcake and bit into it, her eyes closed and she moaned “this tastes so good!” she said after she swallowed “It tastes familiar...” Pinkie’s eyes widened “uh, why don’t you go get ready for the princess’s visit?” she said quickly, pushing the Alicorn away. Twilight’s eyes shot open “Oh yeah!” she said, turning to run away.
She looked over her shoulder for a moment “by the way, do you know where Rainbow Dash went?” Pinkie shook her head so hard, her brain might’ve suffered damage “No! I don’t know! Look, it’s Celestia!” she yelled, panicking. Her tactic worked, however, as Twilight spun around “Where!!!” By the time the Alicorn looked back, Pinkie was long gone.
Pinkie wiped her forehead with her hoof “Phew!” she said, looking around at the alley she had ran to. Glancing around the corner, she didn’t see Twilight, so she began hopping away, singing a song quietly ”Watch as I work my gypsy magic, eye of the newt and cinnamon, watch as the matter turns to batter, open the portal, jump i-“ her song stopped as she froze, her eyes wide. Her tail started twitching, then her eyes fluttered, then her stomach gurgled “Someone’s baking a cake” she bolted towards the source, skidding to a halt as she saw that it was Sugarcube corner. “Oh yeah, Mrs. Cake is baking” she said in realization. She snuck up to the window, peeking inside. Her eyes were met with the most wonderful sight known to all Pinkie-kind, a half-finished cake batter.
She licked her lips and watched quietly as Mrs. Cake opened the fridge, swinging her hips to her own rhythm as she picked up a carton of milk in her mouth. She trotted to the huge bowl in front of her and grabbed a measuring cup from the lower cupboard, placing it on the counter and carefully pouring just the right amount of milk to it. She placed down the white liquid and lowered her head until it was level with the measuring cup. She narrowed her eyes and shifted her body, looking at the amount at different angles.
Once she was satisfied, she picked up the measuring cup and poured the contents into the large bowl. “Milk, check” Mrs. Cake grabbed onto a wooden spoon in her mouth and started stirring the mixture, combining the new and old ingredients. She spoke each ingredient as she added them, giving each item the same precision as with the milk. “They all seem like normal baking ingredients. Milk, butter, baking soda, eggs”
Mrs. Cake looked at a recipe book that Pinkie had never seen before and blushed, still oblivious to Pinkie’s presence “why is she blushing? Cake ingredients can’t be that bad” the pink mare thought, confused at Mrs. Cake’s sudden embarrassment. The light blue mare unlocked a small cubby that always held the most special ingredients. Pinkie listened for Mrs. Cake to say the name of this new item. “Griffon worm sample?” she thought, not sure she heard right as she watched Mrs. Cake open a small bottle and pour a white gooey liquid into the batter.
Pinkie Pie shrugged and looked over her shoulder, making she wouldn't be caught. She looked back into the window, at the perfect angle to see and not be seen. After about 10 more minutes of mixing and curious ingredients, including Diluted poison joke, crystal berries, and manticore tears, the cake went in the oven. Mrs. Cake started the timer and trotted out of the kitchen, leaving the hidden party mare to drool as the enticing smells greeted her nose.
