On The Moon

Luna shivered, pressing her back to the cold stone bricks that made up her prison. She was curled up in a ball in a corner, cowering from something she could no longer remember.
Her forehooves rested over her muzzle, shielding her eyes from the menacing dark that surrounded her.
The floor was covered in liquid, one inch deep, which could be water, or Luna’s own tears, she didn’t know. They certainly could be her tears, she had cried enough.
Sniffling, Luna lifted a hoof away from her eyes. The darkness was everywhere, covering the rest of the room. With a soft flash of baby blue her horn lit up, spreading light to the rest of the room. Despite the light from her horn, the room still held an inky blackness.
On the opposite side of the room, was a small stone table, standing next to a small couch, just big enough for a pony Luna’s size to stretch out on.
Slowly, in small, uneven steps, Luna walked toward the furniture. The couch was damp, but it looked soft and cozy. As soon as Luna was one step away, fatigue clamped on her legs. She swayed in her spot, and almost fell over.
I shouldn’t lay down. She thought. I shouldn't give in to the fatigue. I have been laying for hours!
Despite her thoughts, her body moved to lay on the couch. It was softer than it looked, and she sunk into it.
No sooner had she settles down, than a gurgling sound echoed across the room. Startled, Luna sat up, and looked down at the floor. The water had risen. She was sure of it.
Tentatively, Luna dipped a hoof into the water, pushing it down so it touched the concrete floor. The water touched her ankle. It had risen.
Wide eyed, Luna slid off the couch. The water was rising at an incredibly fast speed, it was now up to her knee.
For a moment, all she could do was stand there and gawk. How could the water be rising? Fear growing in her gut, Luna bent down and examined the floor. She went all around the room, studying the point where the walls and the floor met for openings.
No such things existed.
A lump had risen in Luna’s throat, as panic clamped it’s old jaws on her. The water was now up to her stomach, still rising.
Luna spread her wings, and flew up as far as the room allowed. At ten feet the walls met the roof. Only ten feet tall…
Luna suppressed a shriek. The room was half full of water now.
Desperately, Luna checked the places where the walls met the roof for openings, cracks, doors, anything.
There was no such thing.
Luna’s wings almost froze as something dawned on her: She was going to drown.
Luna cringed away from the water as it licked at her hind hooves, as if it was a ravenous beast trying to eat her alive. There was no escape. She was going to drown. It was inevitable.
“Help!” She shrieked. “Some pony help me! The water is rising! Let me out! I’m going to drown if you don’t!”
There was no answer.
“Please! Please, please, please help me!”l
The water was up to her neck now. She suppressed a sob. A tear made a small “Plop” sound as it fell into the water.
Great. As if I need more water in here. Luna thought.
The Alicorn mare tipped her head back and took in a gulp of air just as the water swallowed her. Slowly she sank to the bottom of the room, now filled completely with water.
Please… Don’t let me drown here… please…
Her air supply was running out. She could feel her throat tightening, her heart pounding, her lungs screamed for air. Suddenly, her mouth opened and she inhaled water.
Sputtering, Luna thrashed in the water, but her muscles were failing her. Dots formed around her sight, and in the middle, a familiar face popped out of nowhere.
Tia? No, it couldn’t be. But it was. Celestia’s face looked at Luna, and a wicked grin crossed it.
“Tia!” Luna sputtered through the water. “Tia, help me!”
Celestia only continued to smile. That taunting, horrifying grin was the last thing Luna saw before her vision faded to black.

Luna’s eyes flew open, and she sat bolt upright. She took in a deep breath. Air. She could breathe again! There was no longer only water around her, but only air. Sweet, sweet, oxygen!
Luna glanced around. What she saw temporarily surprised her. A baron, grey dusty landscape stretched out before her. The moon. She was on the moon.
Luna craned her neck to take a look at herself. She was different, no longer the soft night blue mare she had been, and the sky blue mane that had flowed around her head was no longer there. Instead, she saw a black mare of darkness, and her main flowed freely in an invisible breeze.
Then it hit her. A scowl crossed her face, and she grimaced to show deadly sharp fangs. Celestia had done this. Celestia had doomed her to 1000 years on the moon. Her stupid, pretty little princess sister.
Nightmare Moon let out a blood curdling roar, that resounded all around her beautiful moon that was now her prison for 500 more years. Only 500 more years and revenge would be hers. A menacing smile creeped across Nightmare Moon’s face, and the thought of revenge on Celestia carried her through the 500 years, until she found herself in Ponyville Town Hall, in front of a crowd of terrified ponies.
“Remember this day, little ponies, for it was your last. From this moment forth, the night... will last... FOREVER!”
