Chapters “Hazah, yet another letter for us to reply to! Glorious!” Lunar said sarcastically, pulling out another letter from the pile, one he would have to right back to.
The male alicorn in question was at least a couple thousand years old, but that was young for an alicorn, like twenty one in pony years. He was a tall, not as tall as his brother, well built stallion with wide set shoulders and a strong jaw. His mane was a midnight blue with stars dotting its floating surface as it flowed like a gentle wind was holding it in the air and waving it like a blue aurora, along with his tail. He was dressed in his royal attire, a dress coat with a royal silver bandler over top of that. Wrist cuffs of the same color wrapped around his wrists, glimmering in the candle light.
Lunar was sitting in his study, leaning over a cluttered desk of scrolls and notifications. He was also rubbing his temple to relieve a stress headache as he read over a scroll from Trottingham. It was from the mayor of that town, saying that the residents were complaining that it was colder than usual during the nights ever since a month ago. “By father’s beard… They could not hath sent this when it happened? Thy hath done much to annoy us. Wait a cursed month… The nerve to come to us with thy complaints when thy hath lived with it for a damned month. Foalish ponies of Trottingham. Tis a pain in our flank.”
“What’s the matter, Loony?” A female voiced asked from above the annoyed prince.
Lunar looked up to see a cute face with scarlet eyes looking down at him. Startled by the sudden appearance, he blushed and cried out in shock, knocking the chair over and falling on his back.
The female draconequus giggled. “My, you’re jumpy.” She said in an innocent voice. She was a smallish creature that looked to be a mixture of several animals, but that only made her interesting to those who enjoyed exotic mares. She seemed to like showing off her curvy body though, like she enjoyed the attention her cute form brought her. She wore a tight yellow shirt and a pair of really short jean shorts. Her red eyes were full of glee as she continued laughing at Lunar.
Lunar gave her a bemused look. “Ha ha… Very humorous, Eris. Now if thy excueseth us, we hath work to do.” The stallion vanished from the floor, along with his chair and reappeared in the upright position.
“Oh, you’re no fun.” Eris pouted, crossing her arms.
“Tis a difference between work and fun. We hath learned their place and We wish to keep them there.”
“Common! Play some video games with me. You know I’ll just keep begging.”
Lunar groaned, but ignored Eris as best he could as he worked on the letter. He found it even harder to think straight with Eris there causing a little more stress.
“Please? You know I never say that. Please? Please? Pllleeeeaaaassseee?” Eris begged.
The stallion’s eye twitched, but he continued to hold back his oncoming outburst.
The female draconequus gave a little pout face and floated in front of Lunar’s face. “Please?”
That was all it took for Lunar’s dam to break. He snarled at Eris, making her shrink back. “No, Eris! For the love of the Gods, no! We are sick and tired of being bothered by nonsense! Tis bad enough that entire cities complain to us, but when you are added to the mixture of foalish equines, it drives our stress to levels higher than our moon! Be gone, foalish bitch of chaos!”
That entire rant felt like an icicle stabbing though Eris’ heart and she didn’t even know why, but it hurt enough for tears to spring in her eyes as she gazed hurtfully at the angered alicorn. “I-I’m not a bitch… Or a f-foal.” Was all she managed to choke out, before vanishing in a cloud puff.
As soon as Eris was gone, Lunar felt increasingly bad about the way he snapped at Eris, though he tried to ignore it and worked on his letter, but his mind kept going back to what he said. Why did he even say that? That wasn’t what he meant to say… was it? And second… Why was Eris acting odd… needy for attention and sensitive to his words… It made Lunar’s head hurt again.
He tried to focus back on his work, but he couldn’t, not without at least telling Eris that he didn’t mean it. “Damn… We will never get this letter done like this… Curse our luck.” He put down his quill, sighing as he stood from his chair and walked towards the door, opening it, and walking out.
Eris poofed straight into her half leopard patterned half zebra patterned bed and buried her face into a pillow, dissolving into tears. Why was she acting like this? This certainly wasn’t how she normally acted, especially around Lunar. What was wrong with her?
“W-why did he call me a b-bitch? H-he never said that! What did I do t-to him?” Eris whimpered, wetting her pillow with tears. She cried like that for she didn’t know how long before a knock sounded at her door. “G-go away!”
“Eris? Tis Us… Lunar.” Lunar’s voice called through the door.
“What do y-you want!? Here to f-find something -hic- else to c-call me!?” She accused.
Lunar winced. Eris was really upset, something that made the alicorn hurt a little more, knowing that he had done this to the usually fun loving, random, cute draconequus. He sighed, “Thy are not the foalish one… We deserve what we hath called thee. Apologies, dear Eris… Twas not what I meant to say to you and We regret ever opening Our mouth with those thoughts on our mind.”
Eris sniffled loudly. “R-really?”
“Indeed. Thy is not a bitch and we are the top jackass of the century just for thinking thou are.”
Eris flew out of her bed and slowly hovered towards the door. She opened it a littled to see Lunar’s concerned face. “Y-you don’t think I-I’m a bitch of chaos?”
The alicorn winced again. Lunar really hadn’t meant to say that, but it had come out just like that. He tried to think of something, anything to say that would fix it, but there was nothing. Giving up, Lunar just approached Eris and gently pulled her into a hug.
The mismatched mare instantly melted into the hug. She couldn’t explain why, but it made her feel just so warm and comfortable that all she wanted to do was hug back and bury her face in Lunar’s strong chest. She felt her heart pick up and her cheeks burn slightly.
Lunar was a little surprised at this amount of affection, making the stallion blush. “What hath gotten into thee?”
“Don’t know, not sure if I care right now. I just… I want to keep hugging for a little while.” Eris replied. She squeezed the alicorn tighter.
Lunar blushed deeper. “D-doth thou need Us to get thy something to comfort thee?”
‘You?’ Eris mentally reeled at her own thought. ‘Wait… The hell did that come from!?’ She tried to block out her stray thoughts (Really hard to do!) and think of something that Lunar could do for her. “Ummm… A teeny tiny glass of water?”
“Is that all?”
Eris nodded, still ignoring her odd emotions and thoughts.
Lunar sighed. “Fine…” He pried Eris’ arms off of him and left the mare to fetch what she had asked for. He didn’t bother requesting a guard to do it, wanting just to get away from Eris for a moment to clear his head.
As she stallion walked out of sight, Eris realized she had been staring. She quickly shook her head, trying to clear it. “The hell is wrong with me? Why can’t I control myself?” She suddenly found that she felt hot, like she was sitting out in the sun. She noticed that her heart was racing, only just now slowing back down.
Eris tried to run several different situations through her mind that would explain why she was feeling this way, but nothing came to mind that she particularly thought would ever happen. “No. I’m not like that. I’ve never wanted anypony in my life.” She thought aloud, but it seemed as if her body just heated back up again as soon as she thought of Lunar.
The draconequus had a momentary fit of randomness to express her displeasure of these magnet-like emotions that forced her to be drawn towards the prince of the night. And the more she resisted, the stronger they pulled.
Before she could berate herself further, Eris heard hoof steps approaching her. She looked to see Lunar returning with a glass of water in his hand, feeling strangely warm again at seeing him. She gave a warm smile despite this, trying hard to keep her feelings in check.
Lunar stopped in front of Eris and handed her the glass. “Here is what thou requested. Now is that all? We hath important matters to attend to.”
Eris shook her head and took the water, blushing a little, though hopefully not enough for Lunar to see.
He didn’t. “Excellent. If thy will excuse Us, We must finish this letter.” Lunar said. He inclined his head slightly to Eris, before turning and leaving.
Eris felt a sharp pain in her chest when she watched the stallion walk away and disappear around a corner. As soon as she felt that he was out of earshot, Eris spun quickly around and chucked the glass full of water at one of her bedroom walls. Without spilling a single drop, it slammed into the wall and bounced back at Eris like a rubber ball, smacking her square in the forehead.
“Ouch! Damn chaos powers!” Eris cried, holding her hand against her throbbing forehead where the glass had hit her. She looked down at the floor to find the glass just sitting there, full of water, and void of any cracks or scratches. She growled and picked it up, mumbling curses under her breath as she shut her bedroom door.
An hour later, Eris had already finished the glass of water and she was bored once again. She was sitting cross-legged on her ceiling, playing with her tail fluff. It was then that her thoughts wandered back to Lunar. It was so odd, the feelings she had suddenly gained. They were so alien to her that she had not the slightest clue how to react. Sure she could just go and ask Solaris for a book on it, but she’d probably just end up eating it out of sheer boredom.

Lunar blushed harder. “W-what doth thy want?”

This was a random on my part and I really like the way it turned out. Sorry it's so short, but its an intro chapter. Chapter two will be out after I finish chapter three of one of my other fics.
When roses turn blue... and Eris turns red
“W-what!?” Lunar cried, blushing madly. “W-we… Us… Thy… what!?”
“You heard me, silly stallion.” Eris cooed back.
“B-but… T-tis so sudden. Art thou sure tis us thou admire so strongly?”
“Lunar… The truth is… I have not the slightest clue in the world.” The draconequus replied. “I’ve been feeling like this for… about a month or two now? And I’m just now realizing what they might be.”
“But… Us? S-so soon?”
Eris shushed him with a single claw to his lips. “Don’t make it any more awkward than it already is. I’m saying this for your sake. I don’t care how you take it… Cuz you look cute when you’re flustered.”
Lunar suddenly vanished in a flash of navy blue, though Eris still floated there like he was still wrapped in her arms. He reappeared near his personal balcony that sprouted from his tower. Of course it was night out, so only moonlight shined through the balcony windows. He was breathing hard and putting up his hands in a defenceful gesture. “C-come now, Eris. W-we hath not loved in centuries. We may not even know how to love anypony any more.”
Eris’ disembodied claw gently scratched down between Lunar’s shoulder blades. The touch had made him shiver and moan quietly. “I’ve never loved in my life… So... Wanna start from scratch?”
The stallion blushed again. “Th-thou is s-suggesting… loving us?”
Eris giggled and vanished, much like Lunar did, and reappeared right in front of him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gazed into his dark blue eyes. She smiled warmly at the flustered stallion in her grasp. “Lunar… Why don’t you just let chaos be chaos for once?”
Lunar started to reply, but stopped as he gazed into Eris’ scarlet eyes. A feeling so sudden ignited in his heart that he questioned if it was hypnosis, but he could have sworn it was admiration, no… that was too simple for what he was feeling. His body grew warm, like he had been sunbathing. His heart thudded in his chest and his mind filled with nothing but thoughts for the mare that clung to him so tightly.
Slowly, without even thinking about it, Lunar wrapped his arms around Eris’ torso and pulled her closer. Their lips came dangerously close.
It was Eris’ turn to blush at the stallion’s sudden forwardness. Her coy smile turned to cute surprise as her breathing quickened with being pressed so close against her crush. “L-Lunar?”
“Shh… Art thou going to let chaos be chaos?” Lunar questioned in a gentle whisper.
She blushed even harder. She wasn’t used to even getting so much as the time of day from a pony, let alone affection. It caused so much of an emotional turmoil in her mind that she suddenly feared what might come of this. What would happen between them? Does she really like him like that? Would he like her like that? She wasn’t even sure if this was Lunar’s lust talking or his actual feelings for her. Eris was so new to this kind of thing that, for once in her life, she was actually afraid of the outcome of her actions.
Lunar slowly made a move towards the mare’s lips, intent on kissing the delicate lips of a goddess that had been touched by no other, but before he could make contact, she chickened out.
Her form melted and slipped out of Lunar’s grasp and pooled up on the floor. She looked up at him with floating, sad looking eyes. “I-I’m sorry…” was all she said before popping back to a three dimensional form and vanishing.
Lunar was left standing there in shock. “Did… did thou reject us? After what thy said?” His heart ached slightly as he tried to recall how it felt to have a mare’s touch after two thousand years without it, but he couldn’t grasp the warm feeling he got from Eris. It left him feeling cold. “But… we thought thou liked us…”
Eris, on the other hand, was much less composed. “Stop! S-stop hurting! Why am I hurting so much!? What’s wrong with me!?” She cried into her pillow. She wanted Lunar, needed him and she didn’t even know why. What attracted her to him? What made her emotions clash like a battle ground. Eris needed him, but she was afraid of what she didn’t know, which was irregular for her. She didn’t fear anything. She’s chaos!
But did she fear her own emotions? Did she fear love? Did she fear the one she may or may not love? The questions that floated around in her head made her head and heart ache worse. Her eyes were watering and stinging like she was about to cry. She couldn’t be about to cry. She hadn’t cried in three thousand years, not since her father’s funeral.
“For once in my life, I want this all to make sense!” Eris cried. She didn’t know what to do. She was so torn between her emotions that she was getting scared again, but this time for her mental state. “What makes me feel like this!? I can’t explain it!” She wailed into her pillow, now covered with tears.
She cried like this for what felt to her like hours. By now her pillow was nearly soaked through and her round bed was literally surrounded by balled up tissues. She eventually stopped though, leaving her more than a little numb.
Eris pulled away from the dripping wet pillow and rolled onto her back, stretching out her mismatched limbs as she stared up at the ceiling. “Why did I run? Why do I need him so badly? Why am I so scared?” Some more time passed and she finally closed her eyes and drifted off from exhaustion.
Prince Lunar once again tried to focus on his work, only he couldn’t, not with the thoughts of what had just happened drifting aimlessly through his mind. It was as though they were meant to mess with him. He ignored them until while writing the letter, he had thoughtlessly wrote ‘We are so sorry, Eris, love.’ in the middle of a sentence. “What in hell?” Lunar questioned himself as he glared at the visible failure. He sighed and changed the writing with a simple spell, but the words still stuck in his mind.
It was early into the night and it had been only dusk when Eris had pulled her little stunts of emotions that fit her name perfectly.
The night was silent, leaving Lunar with his obnoxious thought
Lunar’s hand shook on his quill until suddenly he burst. “We cannot focus like this!” He threw his hands up in the air. The quill flew out of his hand and fell back down to land on his head, bouncing off and landing on the floor. “Oh, dearest brother of the sun, We wish thee awake. We must seek thy advice.”
He rubbed his eyes and stretched his stiff wings. “We doth not know what to do about this. We were not ready to deal with mares yet.” He said to himself.
Lunar stood from his desk and paced his study. “If We remember correctly, a mare normally feels better when something nice is done in their favor… But what would be good for Eris? Maybe… roses… Wait, that may cause something unwanted. She is old enough to know what they mean… What to do… She is so shy of us that We may not even get to talk.”
He looked for something that may cheer the mare up, but found nothing. Sighing in frustration, Lunar toppled over onto his sofa. “Do We even like her like… that? How can We even approach her if not even We know how We feel? Brother had said he wanted us to explore some interests… But do We see Eris as an interest? What do We see her as? We had thought of her simply as a friend, but…” The more Lunar thought about it, the more it cleared up in his mind. He began to see how much he and and Eris related, how well they could talk and coexist in such a strong, friendly manner.
“Maybe there is more than We thought… Maybe there is a connection… Why did We not see it before? It makes perfect sense! W-We may have a special somepony! After all these years somepony that can see past our being Night Terror Moon.” Lunar bolted upright. “We must get her to see what We hath discovered. We hath discovered who it is We admire!”
Lunar bolted out of his study and sprinted down the corridor, nearly knocking over a maid that was cleaning an elaborate looking vace. “Apologies!” The rushing alicorn called back as he continued.
Eris was just opening her eyes back up, when a hurried knock sounded at her door. She groaned and slowly pushed herself up. Her magic took hold of her and floated her limpish body to her bedroom door. “Who is it?” Eris asked in a groggy voice.
“Message for Eris.” An almost familiar male voice called through the door.
Eris sighed. With her limbs hanging half limp, She weakly opened the door. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest in surprise once she got a look at who was really at her door. “L-Loony?”
Prince lunar blushed slightly, giving her a shy smile. He was standing in Eris’ doorway, holding a bouquet of roses. “Greetings, Eris. We, umm… picked these for you… because… t-they match thy eyes.” He stuttered as he handed them to her.
Eris stared at the scarlet flowers, a blush warming her cheeks. She slowly reached out and touched it. “N-nopony has ever done something like this for me… I’ve never been given roses…” She said in a near whisper as she took them and held them against her chest. She was about to pummel Lunar with so many thank yous that he would have drown in them, when suddenly the red color of the roses darkened to a bright purple, before changing to a deep blue.
The mare gasped. “I-I ruined them…” She whimpered.
Lunar quickly moved to comfort Eris before she broke down, pulling her into a hug. “Shhh… Thou did not ruin them. See?” He pointed at the blue roses. “First they were thy eye color. Now they are ours. Thou hold our eyes. Through them We can see thee and thou perfect imperfections. We love every one of them. We just did not know we did.”
Eris gazed up at Lunar, wonder in her eyes as well as a few tears. “You… y-you do? You like me like that?”
“Dearest Eris… We think tis more than that… We may very well love thee.” The prince whispered, closing the door behind him as he walked all the way inside.
Eris teared up again, but she wasn’t sure why. She wasn’t sad or anything, though over her years she heard of others being so overjoyed that they had cried. Makes no sense, but then again, what fun is there in making sense?
She stared into his blue eyes as he stared back. Her blush suddenly spread, before she leaped up at the taller alicorn and wrapped her mismatched arms around his neck, having made sure the flowers had teleported to her dresser first. Without stopping to think, she thrust her lips against Lunar’s, tasting another’s lips for the first time in her life.
Lunar was surprised to say the least, but soon he relaxed and wrapped his arms around Eris’ back, pulling her closer. He deepened the kiss, closing his eyes to enjoy it, but they flew back open when he felt Eris’ forked tongue slide across his lips.
He looked into her needy, scarlet eyes and willingly parted his lips to accept Eris’ exotic tongue as it darted inside his maw and coiled around his tongue, constricting it in a loving embrace. Lunar enjoyed the odd new sensation. His ears tingled as he continued to kiss Eris, tasting his new marefriend with a heated passion.

“Indeed! We hath the same realisation! It is so simple, yet complex!” Lunar chimed in. “We hath had the same interest in each other for so long and did not even notice it was more than friendship.”
“Both of us have been imprisoned for a thousand years, lonely and neglected. We share the same interests. And you think I’m adorable.”
Lunar blushed. “W-we must admit… those are all very true.”
“Face it, Loony.” Eris hugged the alicorn tighter. “We might have been meant for each other.”
“We agree to the fullest extent.” Lunar said in a low voice, almost a whisper. He leaned in and gave Eris another kiss, though pulling away again a moment later. “So what now, our lovely imperfection?”
Eris thought a moment. There had really been only one thought on her mind the entire night so far and that was Lunar and his body. The burning need inside of her begged to be sated, only Eris wasn’t sure if Lunar was up for… pleasuring her after just getting together. To her, there was only one way to find out; cause mischief. “How about we go ruin my bed?”
Lunar blushed so deeply that he could have been mistaken for Applejack’s prized giant apple. “B-b-b-but… t-thou is a virgin. Thou told us thyself. W-we must marry thee to take thy virginity.”

Lunar opened his mouth to argue, but stopped. She was right. The marriage law for royalty only said ‘pony’ it didn’t say anything about any other species. “Thou is right…”
“You know it!” Eris exclaimed happily. “So what do you say? Feel up to making tonight a wild one? And don’t tell Solaris about it until one day he catches me sitting in your lap while you sit in your throne?”
“You are kinky, you know that, right Eris? Fine, I will play along and be… Chaotic, but only for you.” He said, before realising a moment later that his speech was altered. “Why am I speaking like this?”
Eris giggled. “Oh, that was me. I was starting to get dizzy from having to think more than usual every time you talk.”
Lunar blinked at the mare a few times. “But I talked like that for over a millennium.”
“This is a new era. Get with the program.” Eris giggled.
Lunar blushed. “Sorry…”
“Oh, shut up and get in here!” Eris said through her giggled fit as she grabbed Lunar and yanked him the rest of the way into her room, before shoving him down onto her bed. She then pounced on him and shoved her lips against his, while rubbing her hands across his toned pecs. She then worked her hands just a little lower to unhook Lunar’s royal bandler and began to unbutton his shirt, revealing his toned body to Eris’ hungry eyes as she broke the kiss and stared at his muscles.
Eris leaned down and kissed one of his pecs.
Lunar blushed. “What are you doing?”
The mare giggled at him and moved lower to kiss down his abs. Her single fang tickled across Lunar’s fur every time she moved lower. She stopped at his trousers and smiled up at the blushing stallion. “I wonder how the rest of you tastes.”

“That was weird. I really thought he was gonna flip his lid.” Eris said as she cuddled closer to her lover. Her and Lunar were sprawled out across the bed pretty much naked.
Lunar smiled. “I think he might have understood more than he was letting on.”
“What do you mean?”
“My brother learns from life lessons. The only way he will accept something is if he sees the beneficial outcome of a situation. What if this is his test of the life lesson he learned?”
Eris twisted her neck at a funny angle to look back at Lunar, making it look more than broken. “But then who was it he was in love with?”
Lunar chuckled. “If we are meant to know, we will find out soon enough.”
The draconequus snorted and untwisted her neck. “Still doesn’t make me wonder any less.”
“I know, but it’s his secret to keep if he wishes.”
Eris let out a big yawn and rolled over into Lunar, laying her head on his chest. She looked so cute at that moment that it made Lunar chuckle. He wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes. The two lovers soon drifted off to sleep, but the thoughts of Solaris’ happiness still drifted through Lunar’s dreams.
Then next night, when Lunar and Solaris crossed paths again on the large balcony that overlooked much of the rural land space and Ponyville, they lowered the sun and raised the moon like any other night. But when Lunar noticed the obvious depression, as well as a slight redness in his brother’s eyes, a difference so small that only he could see, he stopped Solaris before he left for his chambers.
“Dearest brother, what is wrong? You look weary and… sad. I demand to know the cause.”
Solaris shrugged of Lunar’s hand and continued walking. “Nothing.” Was all he mumbled.
“Bullshit. Was it something I did? Was it Eris? Did we disrupt your sleep too much?” Lunar pried further.
“I said it’s nothing.” Solaris said a little louder this time.
“It is not and you will tell me what it is that is causing you to be this way!” The night prince stated.
Solaris stopped dead in his tracks. “Did you just give me an order?” He asked, his voice laced with barely controlled anger.
Lunar stood behind his brother with his arms crossed. His face showed no emotion of any kind, despite all the ones colliding in the back of his head. “What is the matter, brother? Did I hurt your pride?”
Solaris’ hands clenched into fists. His ears twitched angrily. “Back off, Lunar.”
“What are you going to do? You obviously have a problem. Is it with me? Am I your problem? Is it Eris? Is there a law against her doing what she does to me?” Lunar ranted. “Answer me!”
Solaris snapped suddenly and spun around with a raised fist, before slamming it into Lunar’s jaw, knocking the stallion back. His lip had split from the contact and a slow trickle of blood oozed from it.
Lunar brought his hand up and touched it to the wound. He then brought his hand up to see a spot of blood on his finger. “You… hit me.”
Solaris didn’t reply and only turned back around and began walking away again, but something heavy slammed into his back, knocking him to the floor. He groaned in pain as he slowly pushed himself off the floor to look at what had hit him. A shattered wooden table sat on the floor next to him. Solaris looked back to see an utterly pissed off prince of the night.
He pushed himself back onto his hooves and took a moment to regain his balance. “Is that how you want to play it, brother?”
Lunar only growled at his brother in response.
“Very well…” Solaris, remembering the strict rules their mother and father had made about their fights to never use magic to harm each other, took off at a sprint toward Lunar and leaped at him.
Lunar had been ready for the attack and round-housed the sun prince to the jaw, knocking him to the floor. He reached down to pick him up, but was caught by surprise with a jab to the gut. The air was forced out of Lunar’s lungs and he had to take a moment to breath again.
Within that time, Solaris had gotten back up, grabbed Lunar’s shoulder, and forced him up right. He then cocked back his fist and left hooked him in the jaw, sending Lunar stumbling.
Lunar caught himself and pretended to be out of breath. When he heard Solaris approach to finish him off, he sprung out his wing and caught Solaris in the snout, ending in a loud crack.
Solaris stumbled back and held his broken snout as blood spilled past his fingers. “Ack! My snout! You broke my snout!”
Lunar ran up to his brother, without even bothering to notice the injury, and jabbed his hoof square to Solaris’ gut, causing the stallion to buckle. He then slammed his elbow into Solaris’ back, right between his wings.
The pain from the impact caused Solaris to cry out and drop to the floor again. What made it worse was when Lunar dug his hoof into the tender spot between the wing bases, making Solaris scream in agony. “Ok! I’ll talk! I’ll talk! Just please, Lu! S-stop!”
Lunar pulled away. “What do you have against me and Eris!?”
“I-I told you! Nothing!”
Lunar pressed into the weak point, making Solaris whimper loudly.
“Ok ok ok ok! I’m… j-jealous! I could deal with not having a mare to tell her that I love her when you didn’t have one either, but now… I’m lonely.” A tear slid down Solaris’ cheek. “Is it so bad to want a mare that I love that can be my special somepony on Heart & Hooves day? Is is to bad to have somepony to spend the cold nights of Hearths Warming eve with? Is it so bad to what a mare that loves me for me, whom I love her for her, to cuddle up with me every night? It fucking hurts to watch you live my dream, Lu.”
Lunar’s expression melted from rage to pity. “Oh… I…” He trailed off. He couldn’t even think of even a word to say towards his broken-hearted brother, the same one he kicked the ass of for no reason. He mentally punched himself in the groin. ‘You are such an asshole, Lunar.’
Solaris sniffled. “Let me up… I have sleep to catch up on… and a snout to heal.”
Lunar removed his hoof from his brother’s back and let the sun prince force himself to his hooves, still holding his broken snout.
Solaris began to walk away, but stopped. “I’m jealous… because the only mare I had ever loved… was princess Umbra. But I lost her… I just thought it was so unfair that Eris could be reformed. But when Umbra turned tyrant, she couldn’t have been. Thanks for knocking some sense into me, Lu.” He said and continued walking. “I’m sorry, Lu.”
Lunar was left there in a guilty daze. He felt so bad for hurting his brother who was already hurting enough. He had the one thing Solaris didn’t… Somepony to love. The stallion shivered, remembering how it felt to be alone. He hated it. Not knowing if he could ever find a mare that would love him for who he is and not for his status. Such a mare doesn’t tend to show themselves, only the greedy ones and the ones who see themselves as worthless to to a prince.
“No… Tis I who is sorry, dear brother…” Lunar said, but Solaris was already gone.

I was kinda confused while I was writing this one. It was going to be a whole lot more simple of a chapter, but my imagination went a little wild. The fight scene between the brothers was one of those. I meant to make the fight longer, but it wouldn't have fit right if I had them fighting through the castle. The whole thing about Solaris loving Queen Umbra was something I honestly made up to spice up the story line. If I get enough people saying I should, I may put a bonus chapter or a prequel to this fic showing a romance between the two. What do you guys think?

When questioning possibilities (Extra chapter)
“High five!” Eris yelled suddenly. She held her hand up and waited for a response. Lunar had just explained to her what had happened between he and Solaris before her little outburst. Both Eris and her stallion were in her own room, sitting on the eyesore of a color-contradicting bedspread.
Lunar rolled his eyes. “That is socially wrong and completely rejected.”
Eris snorted and let her hand ‘literally’ drop, having severed itself from her arm. “Kill joy.”
“Do you not understand the depths to what I have done? I attacked my brother because I couldn’t get him to tell me what was bothering him.” Lunar retorted. He pushed himself up off of the bed and paced back and forth next to it. “He probably hates me, despite what he tells me. He must. I did, after all, attack him over Umbra. I do not remember much about her, but I know I pushed her away from him. It is too bad. She was such a sweet mare. Shy too.”
“Oh, you mean miss prissy shadow queen? Last I saw of her, she had this crazy purple smoke that came from her eyes. Smoke. From her eyes. Now even I can be a little surprised at that one.”
“You have seen Umbra?” Lunar asked, suddenly drawn away from his memories. He looked at Eris expectantly.
Eris sighed and rested her head on the air above the pillow. “Yeah, but it was a long while back. I’m pretty sure she’s dead now.”
Lunar looked down at his hooves as more memories were brought forth. He remembered the little black mare with an even darker mane. If the castle of the two brothers had been any darker back in those days, Umbra would have blended in perfectly with the shadows. He then also remembered what he had said to Umbra and what he did to her. It was right around the time when he had just began transformation into Night-Terror Moon, when only his mind was turning.
It took a moment for Lunar to realize Eris had said something. He suddenly looked up.from his hooves at her. “I am sorry, but what did you say?”
“I said you’re def.” Eris retorted.
Lunar rolled his eyes. “Very mature… Now what did you really say?”
“Oh, right. That. I said; what if Umbra isn’t completely dead?”
“I do not follow…”
“You derp. I mean what if the crystal heart didn’t kill Umbra? What if she’s still alive?”
Lunar shook his head. “Umbra was not immortal, Eris. She was a simple unicorn.”
“A unicorn powerful enough to take an entire kingdom to another dimension.” Eris pointed out. “Maybe it’s not the combination of wings and a horn that causes you to be immortal. I mean… Look at me. I’m not an alicorn.”
“You have horns and wings.”
“Yeah, but I can’t use them. They just sit there.”
Lunar groaned. “What is your point?”
Eris rolled her eyes, mentally cursing herself for not speeding up his thought path too when she changed his speech. “My point is, a unicorn that powerful wouldn’t be that easy to kill. Some part of her would contain her soul in a single focal point. Trust me, I do it all the time.”
“Are you saying Umbra could have used the soul displacement spell on herself?”
“Just as that blast from the crystal heart hit her.” Eris confirmed. “Just like king Cocoon did.”
Lunar was about to reply when both things that Eris said registered in his mind. “Wait… What about Cocoon?”
“Not important. I think we should talk to Gleaming Shield about searching the kingdom for signs of Umbra.”
“But the-” Lunar’s lips were closed by Eris’ severed floating hand.
“I said not important.” Eris stressed. “We’ll deal with other matters later. We’ll cure your stressing over your brother so you’ll stop talking about it. It really ruins my bedroom mood.”
Lunar blushed. His horn glowed light blue as he cast a thought projection spell. A blue bubble formed next to him and projected his thoughts in his own voice. “I did not know my stressing about my brother was causing you to lose interest. Apologies. But this information about Umbra having possibly survived is not quite a happy thought. Umbra turned evil for a thousand years.”
Eris popped the bubble with a single claw. “So did you, and so was I. It’s worth a shot. Plus, I just want to get this over with before you talk yourself into sleeping in your own bed. I don’t want to do that to my big, sexy prince of the night.”
Lunar pushed the floating hand away that was holding his lips closed. “Oh… fine. We’ll talk to Gleaming Shield tomorrow.”
Eris pouted. “Awww! But why not now? It’s day time now.”
It was Lunar’s turn to hold Eris’ lips shut. He shook his head. “I can not stay up two days in a row, Eris. I need sleep.”
She held up a sign that read “But why?”
“Because I am tired and I will not search for an old rival while I am drowsy.” Lunar replied.
Eris put that sign away somehow and held up another that read “Pleeeeeeeeeeease?” She added wide puppy eyes to add effect.
Lunar leaned closer. “No.”
Prince Lunar groaned as he watched the ground below pass him by. How did Eris convince him to go? He couldn’t even remember what she did any more. He was so upset about missing another day of sleep he had forgotten almost the entire conversation. He looked over at Eris. Both Lunar and the goddess of chaos were riding in one of his brother’s chariots as they flew toward the crystal empire. “You are a freak of nature when you want to be.”
Eris smirked. “You know you love it.” She teased.
“Not when it takes from my sleep…” Lunar said under his breath. He then looked in front to the two solar guard pegasi that were currently pulling the chariot. “How long until we reach the Crystal Empire?”
“Not long, your highness.” The pegasus on the left replied in his gruff voice.
Lunar sighed and sat back in his seat. He crossed his arms, shooting another glare at Eris. “You are lucky I love you. When we get back, I am sleeping for two nights straight. Dusk Shine can take the night for a while for all I care.”
Eris giggled. “There is no way you’re getting any sleep with me around when we get home. I have to reward my big steed for getting me out of the castle.”
“Is that what this is about!?” Lunar exclaimed. “You could have just told me you wanted to go out instead of making an excuse like this!”
“Where’s the fun in that? I didn’t even have anything to go do, even if I did get out.” Eris then wrapped her arms around the night prince and nuzzled against his shoulder. “Besides… I get to help my love solve a romance mystery.”
Lunar bit back the venomous reply that was on the tip of his tongue and forced back his growing anger. He slowly took a deep, calming breath, before slowly letting it out. He felt much calmer after that. “Let us just get this over with so we may return to one of our beds. I have been looking forward to cuddling with you sense our time in the throne.”
Eris blinked a couple a times. A deep frown slowly formed on her lips. “Aw, man! I forgot about the cuddles!” She whined.
“See now why I did not want to leave today?”
The goddess of chaos let go of Lunar and looked away, crossing her arms as she pouted. “You had to bring up the cuddles… Can’t believe you brought up the cuddles…”
Lunar sighed and pulled Eris against him, wrapping his arms around her. “Look… Let us just be quick. The cuddles will be at the castle when we get there. We can cuddle for as long as you like, as long as I get some sleep too.”
Eris slowly nodded.
“Your highness, we’re approaching the Crystal empire. Should we land in the city or at the castle?” The pegasus guard on the right called back.
Lunar looked up from his mismatched lover to the city that was now within view. The Crystal empire, home of their previous captain of the guard and Lunar’s nephew, seemed to literally glow in the sun’s light, the reflective surfaces glistening with his brother’s tallant. The castle itself wasn’t nearly as massive as Canterlot, but the city that surrounded it more than made up for it.
“Land as close as you can to the castle. I want to be done here as soon as possible.” Lunar replied.
“As you wish, your majesty.” The two pegasi chimed together. They began to flap their wings faster, picking up speed as they flew over the city. It wasn’t until they had finally approached the castle entrance itself that the guards began to slow and decrease altitude. The chariot slowly drifted with their decent and gently landed just after the two pegasi had.
Two unicorns dressed in glistening purple armor marched up to the chariot and bowed to Prince Lunar. “Prince Lunar. Tis good to see you again. To what do we have the pleasure of welcoming you to the Crystal empire?” The one on the right asked.
Lunar stood from his seat and stepped off the chariot, standing in front of the two guards. “Eris and I wish to see Prince Crescendo. It’s a matter concerning queen Umbra.”
The two crystal guards looked up at Lunar, then at each other, then back at Lunar. There was slight confusion and fear in their eyes. “Wh-what about Umbra, your majesty?” The left stallion spoke again.
“That is none of your concern.” Lunar replied in a gentle tone, as not to sound rude. “When can I see Crescendo?”
“His majesty is in the library. Shall we escort you there?” The mare on the right asked.
“That won’t be necessary.” A familiar mare’s voice called from farther away. “I’ll take it from here. You two are relieved.”
As the two guards hurried off, Lunar looked to see a white mare wearing a red dress with gold trim. Her mane and tail were a deep blue and styled to the left as it draped down across her shoulder. She looked at Lunar with a friendly smile, her blue eyes bright and happy.
Lunar smiled. “Hello, Gleaming Shield. It has been a while.”
“That it has, Lunar. What brings you here?”
“You mean both of us, right?” Eris butted in, somehow coiling around Lunar’s abdomen like a snake.
The mare’s eyes grew wide. She had to take a a few steps back to keep from freaking out. “Y-yeah… That is so what I meant…”
Eris giggled and twisted her lips into a creepy smile. “Why so serious?”
Gleaming shivered, before looking up at Lunar. “What is she doing here?”
Lunar rolled his eyes. “She is my fiance…”
Gleaming’s jaw dropped, her mind going blank. If she hadn’t trained herself not to, she may have even fainted. Prince Lunar and Eris!? Eris goddess of chaos!? Thinking about it nearly snapped her brain it two.
“I think we broke her too.” Eris whispered into Lunar’s ear.
Lunar sighed and rubbed his face. He was too tired to deal with this. Why did Eris have to convince him to come to the Crystal empire today? They could have gone tomorrow and it may have even gone over with Gleaming so much better. But now Lunar was irritable with having to deal with it.
The prince walked straight up to Gleaming and backhanded her. Gleaming had always told him that she could take it, telling him that he was supposed to do that if she was ever acting irrational. “Get a hold of yourself, Gleaming. It is not the biggest surprise anypony has ever seen. Your brother becoming the prince of friendship and becoming your superior was more startling than this.”
Snapped from her stupor, Gleaming shook her head in an attempt to clear ir. She looked away, blushing. “R-right… So what was it you were here for again?”
“Eris and I wish to speak with you and your husband, if you are not busy. We are… curious about queen Umbra’s death.”
Gleaming’s gaze snapped back to Lunar, her eyes full of curiosity. “What about Umbra?”
“Please, in private. I would not wish to startle those who may be listening with information that may not be true.”
The princess glanced around her, as if somepony indeed may have been watching. She seemed to be on edge. Without looking at the unlikely couple, she said; “Fine… but if Eris breaks anything-”
“Well, I never!” Eris exclaimed. She crossed her arms and turned her nose up. Her action was full of sarcasm, of course.
Gleaming rolled her eyes as she cast a teleport spell, her horn glowing bright purple. Within moments, all three of them vanished in a purple flash of magic.
Prince Crescendo had been reading one of his favorite romance books from his personal section of the library, about a dragon who found love in a timid pony. The prince was a bright pink alicorn with a curly pink and purple mane and tail. He was dressed casually today in a white collared shirt and a pair of khakis. He wasn’t even wearing his royal jewelry.
He had read through half of his book when a bright purple flash of light startled him. The book flew out of his hands and landed on none other than prince Lunar’s face.
The night prince groaned. “Must things like this always happen to me? I need a vacation…”
Crescendo gasped. “P-prince Lunar! My apologies.” His pink magic took hold of the book and brought it back to his hands. He placed a bookmark between the pages he remembered having last read and shut the book. It was then set aside. “Do please make yourself comfortable, you as well Eris. Gleaming, love, could you please have Steward bring our guests some refreshments?”
“There is no need, Crescendo. Besides, I want both of you here while we talk.” Lunar said. His look was completely poker as he sat in one of the four reading chairs, one of which Crescendo was sitting in.
Eris, on the other hand, was not pleased about Lunar rejecting the refreshments. “I wanted a glass of chocolate milk, Lunar. Don’t turn down refreshments until everypony is counted for.”
“Sorry, Eris, but it’s going to have to wait until after we get what we came for.”
The draconequus groaned, but didn’t argue.
Crescendo was confused by the couple. “Lunar, I don’t understand. What’s going on?” The answer came when Gleaming walked up next to him and whispered into his ear. The shock that spread across his face was proof of understanding enough. It took him a moment to process the information before he spoke. “First… Let me congratulate you two. I thought I felt something between you two.”
Eris made to reply, but was cut off by the rest of what Crescendo was saying.
“Second… Why are you so interested in Umbra all of a sudden?”
Lunar sighed. This was the one part he was dreading about coming to the Crystal empire to speak about Umbra. He began telling them about how he had hurt Solaris and scratched open old wound, about when Solaris told him about a time that Lunar had forgotten until that morning, about a timid black mare whom Lunar had driven away in his days as Night-Terror Moon.
Crescendo sat back and listened to every word, not making a single comment as the prince spoke. Once Lunar had finished, the prince of love let the new information seep in. He looked first to his wife, then back to Lunar. “I never knew Umbra was a different mare a thousand years ago.”
Lunar sighed. “Jealousy can be a sick monster if it wishes to be.”
“Indeed…” Crescendo shifted in his chair, finding that the conversation had gotten slightly uncomfortable. It was especially so after he had found out that Umbra was just a heart broken mare lashing out at those around her. “I… had no idea.”
“But that is not all…”
“What do you mean?”
“Eris and I came here looking for traces of Umbra. Thanks to Eris bringing up the possibility of a soul transfer spell, we think that Umbra may still be alive.”
Both Crescendo’s and Gleaming’s eyes grew wide. They glanced at each other, as if they were trying to send silent messages. Crescendo finally worked up the nerve to speak. “You… might want to come see this…” The prince stood and gestured for the couple to follow him.
Crescendo pushed his horn into the slot of a massive door that Lunar guessed to be the royal archives. As magic flowed from the prince’s horn, the seam of the door began to glow bright pink. Tumblers creaked and clicked into place as they were forced to move by alicorn magic.
After the last tumbler locked into place, Crescendo pulled his horn from the slot and used more of his magic to pull open the door, it being too heavy to open by hand. The hinges creaked as the barely used door swung open to reveal the contents.
Gleaming quickly put up a visual blocking spell on every item but the one they had come to see.
Lunar shot a questioning look at the princess.
“What? I don’t care if she’s your fiance. She’s not privileged enough to see the archives. Dusk informed me of what she did when Teria came back.” Gleaming replied.
Eris suddenly appeared in front of Gleaming, a glare more menacing than when Dusk finds a rip in a page showed in her eyes. “What was that, you sorry excuse for a princess?”
Caught off guard, Gleaming stumbled and fell on her ass. She glared back at Eris despite this. I said, you don’t get to see this kingdom’s secrets. Get that through your thick skull or you can wait outside.”
“Big talk for a mare who just fell on her ass.”
Gleaming’s anger began to boil. She jumped off the floor and butt heads with the goddess of chaos. “You’re not going to down talk me in my own castle!”
Eris laughed. “Your castle? You’re not even an alicorn. This is Crescendo’s castle, freeloader.”
“Freeloader!? Why I oughta-”
“Girls, break it up!” Crescendo yelled at the two mares. Instantly both ceased all arguments and turned their noses up from each other. The prince pointed at Gleaming. “You should know better.” She then pointed at Eris. “And you should show some respect. You’re not in Canterlot anymore. In this castle I share the rule of our land with my wife. What we say goes. If you can’t respect that, then go home.”
Both mares looked down at the floor, Eris showing a lot less shame than Gleaming, but still showed it.
“Now if you my wife doesn’t feel like missing out on her favorite part of our afternoon routine, she better make nice. And if Eris doesn’t feel like making the long flight back to Canterlot, she better do the same.”
Eris and Gleaming both sighed and turned back to one another and shook hands. “Sorry…” They chimed together.
“I swear you two act so similar…”
Lunar couldn’t help but chuckle. “I think you may be right, Crescendo.”
The two mares blushed and looked away. Eris slithered her way back around Lunar’s body and Gleaming stood close to her husband, still looking at her hooves.
Crescendo shook his head and sighed. “Anyway… would you like to see the artifact now?”
“Why not? Perhaps this could be the one thing that would not waste time like everything else has today.”
“So you’ve been having that issue too?”
“Can we not waste any more time?”
Crescendo blinked. A rude retort drifted through his head, but he pushed it away. Insulting the prince of the night would do nothing but harm. After a moment, he regained control and nodded. “Sure. Follow me.” Crescendo walked through the open doorway into the archives.
Due to every artifact being blocked from sight, there wasn’t much to look at but the ceiling and the floor. Both, unfortunately, were very white and bland. That come as a huge inconvenience to Eris, but she distracted herself by playing with Lunar’s wings.
A playful argument, a laughing fit, and prank on Crescendo later, they finally arrived at the end of the vault. Against the back was was a glass case with a black box nestled on a red pillow inside.
Crescendo walked straight up to the glass case and opened it. He pulled out the black box and handed it to Lunar. “This is the last remaining piece of Umbra… and it’s very much alive.
Lunar hesitated, gazing at the box like it were a vicious predator. After mentally berating himself about owing this to his his brother, he finally took the box from Crescendo. It wasn’t heavy, but it definitely had some weight to it and the wood it was made from felt chilled to the touch.
A shiver ran down Lunar’s back. He was literally holding the mare who he himself had turned into a monster, much like himself. With a deep breath, he slowly lifted the lid on the box.
Inside, nestled in a felt cushion, was the dark red horn of queen Umbra.
