To love a Mortal
Chaper one: Rules
Previous ChapterConscience transformed into an eagle and took off. That didn't stop her pursuers. Two of them sprouted massive bat wings and followed. She screeched and dove into a cave. the creatures weren't as small as her so they couldn't follow her. She spun around and saw the being had shrunk down to her size. Not that she'd expect anything less from the lord of Chaos.
She growled. That little fart stain. I'm gonna kill his immortal ass. She transformed into a dragon and burned the creatures to a crisp. the Winged beasts crumbled to dust and fell to the ground.
She yawned. "That all you got? I figured you'd have something better than flying monkeys." she pretened to examine her claws as she waited for the Being she addressed.
"Hey!" A boy appeared in front of her face floating. He had two mix-matched wings and golden eyes. instead of normal hands he had an eagles claw and lion's paw. A deer antler and goat horn sat on his head and a fang stuck out of the side of his mouth. Conscience smiled, despite the fact his magic let him take any form he wished he never changed. not that Conscience would ever want him to. "Don't hate on monkeys."
Conscience transformed into a monkey, one of the ones her master had sent after her. "I don't have anything against monkeys, I just think you can do better."
He eyed her suspiciously. She had been made to scold and berate him when he did wrong. The Arcane sisters themselves had made her for him. she'd never failed to do her duty. So why was she encouraging him know? "What's in it for you?"
"I'm bored and you haven't done anything worth scolding in weeks." She transformed into a griffon and nudged him. "Hook me up here."
He smiled. "All right." He snaps his talons and disappeared.
Almost immediately the Shapeshifter transforms into a tall dark haired woman. She landed on the ground softly and looked up to the place where the Chaos god had been. Instead of a smile, she scowled. "Foresight, I hope you're right about this."
Foresight looked down on the Humans. They were at war, again. Why was there so much death? One family, one she had grown very fond of over the years, was beginning to feel the pain the war brought with it. The oldest son had been taken to join the war. Foresight took a deep breath and stepped over the edge.
Any mortal being would've been terrified. But even the Shapeshifters that lived among the gods could travel back and forth with little problem after enough training. when she was mere feet from the ground she snapped out her two golden wings and swooped up. She cast and invisibility spell and went to visit the Matriarch of the Apple Family.
The old woman rocked back and forth in her chair. Foresight materialized next to her in the form of an old woman. It was one of her favorite forms, older people were respected for their knowledge and experience. "Hello old friend."
The old woman in the rocking chair smiled, several teeth were missing. "Da' Goddess of Air 'erself came ta visit." she stopped rocking. "Ta what do Ah owe Da' pleasure?"
"I came to tell you of bad things to come." she looked over the orchard and noted the smaller than normal fruit hanging down from the trees. "I told my sister to enrich the earth, what's happening?"
"The war is taking it's toll on us, without ma grandson we cain't channel enough magic to keep ta production up, don't suppose you got a trick ta 'elp?"
"Sadly no, but I may have a solution." she looked up towards her home. "You will not have anything to worry about soon. and I will keep an eye on Big Mac." she vanished in a flash of light.
"Tat girl always had a flair fo' ta dramatic." The old woman kicked her feet and her chair began to rock again.
Discord leaned over the edge of the God realm looking down. He wasn't allowed here and as far as he was concerned neither was Foresight. The sisters had said long ago that Gods were not permitted to travel between the realms, or interfere with humans in any way. The idea of breaking that rule was insane, even for him!
Foresight appeared next to him and smiled. "Hello Discord."
"You just went down there!"
"Yes."
The two stood in silence for a while. Foresight looked out over the human world. Discord stared at her in amazement. "I never pegged you for rule breaker."
"Rules, Ha! I never pegged you as one to follow rules." She grinned mischievously. "Ever wondered what it's like down there?"
Discord looked down. it seemed fairly empty... and boring. "Not really."
She shrugged. "Suit yourself." She closed her eyes. "In that case you should get going. I have things to do."
Discord turned to leave, the idea of leaving nagging at his brain. He wanted to go but his nature was forcing him to stay. "Can you use your powers?"
"Of course." It's just very limited. she didn't add.
