"Luna?"
"Yes sister?"
Celestia hesitated. She was going to ask what should they disguise themselves as but another question came to her mind. A question that has been bugging her for a while.
"What could have we been?"
Luna looked back at her with a puzzled expression. Celestia gulped and continued.
"What if we found the elements first? Would have we beaten Discord and then what could have we become?"
"I don't know."
A air of nostalgic hung in the air. Celestia remembered the time of Discord and how the never ending storms of chocolate rain made some ponies obese and the lactose-intolerance cry in pain. The pegusai were powerless against the storms of chocolate-flavoured hell and the plants of the earth ponies changed to strange shadows of their former selves.
Her flashback ended when Luna said "stop and hide". She knew it must be some ponies heading to the Capital, Canterton of the land Equestria which they hid in since the fall of Discord, 1,500 years ago. The pair hid in the closest bush they could find. Celestia changed her white fur and pink mane to green to help her go unnoticed. Luna did the same.
Looking through the leaves, Celestia saw six mares walking down the road. She recognised them as the current bearer of the Elements of Harmony. She recognised them from the newspaper she got yesterday. The group seem to be discussing the Ceremony of Friendship which was taking place today.
The position was a hard earned role and a number of events had to happen before they are crowned. When the first bearer of the current elements of Harmony died, one year after, the Ceremony of Bonding takes place. The elements of Harmony are activated by the remaining bearer and instead of defeating an evil entity, they chose the new Bearers. Then the Ceremony of Friendship takes place a week after the Ceremony of Bonding where the new bearers are crowned rulers of Equestria and The Pledge of Protection is said in which they pledge to protect the country and all its citizens and use their gifts to the betterment of the nation.
"Ah just can't believe we were the chosen few to become the Bearers." said the orange earth pony in a Stetson.
"I know and already we are best buds!" said the pink earth pony. "We are all from Ponyville except for Twilight an-" She suddenly burped and shook her tail.
"What does that mean, Pinkie?" said the sky blue pegasus. Celestia wondered what she meant by that. Did she have psychic powers? The pink one's cutie mark was three balloons which was totally unrelated to supernatural powers but then again, she has heard of ponies having secondary talents not related to their cutie mark.
"A burp and tail twitch means an someone important to the plot is hiding nearby." she replied.
Celestia teleported.
The two sisters sat around a campfire. Twilight was setting in and a cold breeze was blowing from the north. A pot of bubbling broth sat on top of the fire. Celestia was reading a newspaper she had found lying the ground an hour ago. Luna, on the other hand was looking at nightsky, deep in though.
"Sister, I've been thinking about what you said earlier on."
Celestia, who was engrossed in an article about how the ponies of Trottinham holding a rally to imprison a pegacorn, claming she was a user of dark magic, snap up from the paper and looked at Luna, slighty annoyed.
"About what, Luna?"
"About what could have we-"
"-become?"
A silence hung in the air for a few minutes, remembering the six ponies who got to the elements before them.
Celestia broke the silence. " So what do you think of?"
"Well first we would have to defeat Discord and hoped he would turn to stone. After that, I simply don't know. Maybe ride off into the sunset or something like that."
"What about the other ponies, Luna. Remember the aftermath. The years of breeding the cacti to bring them back to their formals selves. What did they get? These spiky plants bearing no fruit, not the lovely smooth trunks bearing the nicest fruit in Equestria. And what about the Everfree? Remember the days that was a plain filled with mammoths. Both that plain and the mammoths are gone."
"Didn't they do just fine by themselves?"
"They did, but that's not the point. Remember our youth, Luna. The days relaxing under the cacti, eating cacs. Mother and father telling us that faith had a lot in store for us. Mother putting us to bed, singing softly."
The two sisters remembered their childhood in silence.
"And he ruined it, Tia. He ruined it!" shouted Luna.
"Yes, I know h-"
"He ruin it! Our parents, the kingdom, the plains. If you ask any pony these days about Utopia they would think you're crazy."
"Yes, I know that... Our family's kingdom." Celestia said in a whisper.
"He took our throne." Luna whispered.
"I wish we got to the tree of Harmony before they did."
"I wish so too."
Just then, the broth, completely out of the two's mind, started to overboil. Celestia, sighing, using her magic, levitated the pot off the fire and onto the hard ground next to it.
"Dinner is ready, Lulu. Served yourself."
Celestia then quickly hid her head behind the paper and started to read again. She wasnt very hungry anyway.
Luna, annoyed that Celestia wasnt going to serve her, got a bowl from her saddlebag and served herself some broth.
Twilight looked outside of her window in the Harmonious Tower. She was reading a journal of Star Swirl the Bearded, the first bearer of magic, which only the Bearer of Magic could read due to a spell on it that prevents others that isn't an element to open it. The first hand account of Star Swirl's quest to stop 'Discord' a creature made of pure chaos and his quest to drown the whole world in a nasty storm of chaos had her intrigued about the world long ago. She wish she got to meet Surprise or face Discord head on. They were almost at the tree of Harmony when a small passage stuck out at her:
"I then saw two ponies like I've never seen before. There were as tall as two average ponies and had both horns and wings. Their manes and tails blew in a non-existing wind. But the most surprising part was that when I got a glimpse of their cutie marks, I saw a sun motif one the white one and a moon on the blue one. I believe there are the ones prophesied in the Creation Tale. 'The sun and moon shall lead the entire world into a age of peace and harmony after the age of Chaos'. A flash of light and they were gone. I never saw them again."
It continued to the most exciting part then but Twilight was unable to enjoy the rest. She felt like the 'Sun and Moon' were out there somewhere, waiting to reveal themselves to the whole world.
"I've got it sister."
"What?"
"What we might have become?"
"What is it, Luna?"
"Rulers, Tia, Rulers."
