Twilight had to pull the tipsy pony back down by the tail as patrons of the bar turned to look. "But guuuuys," Rainbow Dash was drunk to her ears, "She was tooootally going on about it, 'If I were a tree, I'd be stronger. I'd like to be a tree'." The rumors, well, nopony was sure when they started, but it was probably a few days after Pinkie's outburst in the bar. There had always been muffled rumors about her sanity after the "You're going to love me!" incident at the Grand Galloping Gala, but in respect to the loving pegasus, they had never met her ears. This was fuel to a spark though, and erupted in a wildfire. "You're such a loudmouth." Fluttershy's voice was quiet, hurt, and far darker than usual. She couldn't even look at the other pegasus. They stood in the Cakes' bakery, Pinkie had pulled the two there, by force, to talk it out. "Flutter-" "Do you even know what they say about me? That I'd like to be a tree! ..A tree... A TREE! You're such a loud mouth!" She repeated, walking towards the display case, she saw her reflection in the glass and turned away. "Maybe if I were a tree, built of stone i wouldn't hear all the jokes about 'Demon spells', but I'm not." "Flutter-" The door slammed closed before she could continue. As time went on, the rumors only got worse. The others tried to end them, but that of course didn't work. "Fluttershy?", a voice spoke from behind her one day. She jumped in shock, then turned hurriedly. The squirrels she had been feeding fled. Berry Punch, town drunk, stood there. "Hey flutter," she said softly, leaning in more than Flutter was comfortable with. The yellow pegasus tried to gain her feet. "Y-yes?" She asked uncomfortably. "I just want to tell you," she smiled, "about your whole tree thing. About that whole, being reborn as a tree to be stronger-" The magenta pony waved her hoof in the air vaugly, ignoring flutter's squeaks. "Reborn?! I never said that!" "The whole tree thing, you really are a chicken. I, and the rest of us neighsayers, applaud you." "What are you saying?" Fluttershy's eyes were wide. "It's just a good thing you want to be stronger and-" "STOOOOOP!" Fluttershy's scream was heard all across the park as she fled. She lay in her bed, petting the sleeping Angel. "I'd like to be a tree...", she spoke softly to herself. "I would be stronger". She closed her eyes and snuggled into the rabbit, who squeaked in pain when she hugged too tight. "Sorry, Angel... I'm so sorry." She tried to sleep, but all that kept flashing through her mind were the words of the other Ponyvillians said the last few weeks. Even the foals were ridiculing her now. Even the little trio she loved so much had begun calling her a chicken. She cracked her eyes open, "To be a tree... Oh, that would be wonderful." The moon was full that night, and the cliffs they stood on cast endless shadows far beneath them. "Just wait it out one day and night longer!" Twilight begged. But the plea fell on deaf ears, "Fluttershy, as a tree, you'll be stronger," she told herself solemly then stepped back. The air was cold, and filled with the smell of rain, the mayor closed her book softly and spoke to those surrounding the mound one last time.
