TwilightSparkle had failed to stop king Sombra's invasion of the Crystal Empire. Her brother was killed in a one on one duel and Cadence is Sombra's forced 'personal slave'.

Her friends met their fates at the hoof of the tyrant king, trying to protect Twilight but it was all in vain. So here she is, in the snow. Waiting to die by the cruel clutches of Frostbite and Dehydration.
