The Wingless Pegasus
“Come on Rainbow! You got this, you got this!” Scootaloo yelled as she watched her idol flying downwards in a nose dive. Rainbow has been trying to pull off her new trick for weeks, and has had little to no success.
“”Come on, come on.” Rainbow Dash whispered to herself. “You got this Rainbow, you got this.”
A Mach cone started to form in front of Rainbow; all she needed now was to perform the Sonic Rainboom. Doing this would grant her the speed she needed to perform this new aerial stunt (which she didn’t have a name for). Rainbow could feel the air resistance; she began to flap her wings harder and harder until she finally felt herself break through the sound barrier, causing a Sonic Rainboom. All she had to do now was perform the buccaneer blaze, do 3 barrel rolls, and finally finish it off with smooth landing. The problem was, is that she was moving so fast it was hard for her to pull off the trick. She began to perform the buccaneer blaze when a strong gust of wind through her off balance. She lost control and hit a swarm of bees, which caused her vision to blur. She then hit the ground causing a ton of dirt and dust to fly everywhere.
“Rainbow!!!” Scootaloo yelled, she began to run toward her idol.
“Please be ok, please be ok” she said to herself. Once she got there the state Rainbow was in, was more than critical. Her wings have been torn and broken, and her body was covered with deep cuts and dirt.
“Oh no! Rainbow Dash! Scootaloo yelled frantically “Your goanna be ok I’ll go get help!”
“All this waiting is killing me! When will we get to see Rainbow?” Scootaloo asked with tears welding up in her eyes.
“Shouldn’t be long now Scootaloo.” Twilight said in the fakest happy tone she could muster.
“I sure hope she’s ok. I’ve seen her crash before but it’s never been this serious.” Applejack said as she paced back and forth.
“Oh poor, poor Rainbow she’s probably really scared, something like this has never happened to her.” said Fluttershy as she put her hooves over her eyes.
“Does anypony know what caused her to crash?” asked Rarity
“It was probably because she was being reckless as usual.” Applejack said giving Rarity an annoyed look.
“Why must you be so hostile towards me?”
“I aint being hostile!”
“Yes you are!”
“No I aint!”
“Rarity! Applejack!” Twilight yelled causing the whole everyone to become silent.
“We shouldn’t be arguing. We are here to help Rainbow, not to argue.”
“Twilight’s right, I’m sorry for snapping at you Rarity”
“Oh I can’t blame you we are all worried.”
Applejack and Rarity hugged it out then walked over to their seats and sat down. Scootaloo sat alone; hoping that her sister figure will be okay. That’s when the doctor walked out; he was holding a clip board with some papers on it.
“How is she doctor is she going to be ok?” Twilight asked in a quick and eager tone.
“Well I’m afraid her condition is worse than we thought.” the doctor said.
This sent Scootaloo’s heart racing as her mind filled with questions. She ran over to the doctor nearly knocking Twilight over.
“What’s wrong with her? is she going to…die?” Scootaloo asked almost crying.
“Well her wings were not able to be saved, we had to amputate them or she would have suffered infection.”
The whole room gasped, the ponies all looked at each other in disbelief.
“What does amputate mean?” Pinkie asked with a look of confusion on her face.
Fluttershy walked over to Pinkie and whispered the meaning of the word.
“THEY DID WHAT!” Pinkie yelled. Fluttershy quickly covered Pinkie’s mouth to prevent her from screaming.
“Can we see her!?” asked Scootaloo with tears in her eyes.
“Yes you can, she’s in recovery room 423.”
Scootaloo ran past the doctor and quickly began looking for Rainbow’s room. When she found the room, she was hesitant on walking in. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to handle seeing her idol in such terrible condition. Twilight walked up behind her and rested a hoof on her shoulder.
“I’m not sure if I can do it Twilight, I don’t think I’m brave enough.”
“Scootaloo, I know you’re afraid for Rainbow, we all are, but Rainbow looks at you like her sister. She would want you there for her.”
“But….” Scootaloo was getting chocked up and began to cry. Twilight griped Scootaloo in a hug and even began to cry herself.
“Twilight?”
“Yes?”
“Will you go with me?”
“Of course I will.” Twilight helped Scootaloo up and walked over to Rainbow’s door. Scootaloo took a deep breath and pushed open the door. Rainbow was hooked up to wires and wrapped in bandages.
“Go on Scootaloo.” Twilight said giving her a smile.
Scootaloo walked over to Rainbow, a tear began to slide down her cheek. She closed her eyes as memories began to wash over her. She began to remember the time when Rainbow decided to take her under her wing. She opened her eyes again and saw the bandage wrapped around Rainbow’s back. She realized that her mentor would no longer be able to give her flying lessons. This caused Scootaloo to cry which woke Rainbow up.
“Scoots, is that you?”
“Yeah Rainbow it’s me.” Scootaloo said wiping the tears from her eyes. Rainbow noticed that something was missing, something important. She tried to move her wings, which caused extreme pain shoot through her nerves.
“My wings, there……….gone.” Rainbow said as she burst into tears
“My life is over! All of my dreams crushed! I will have to get a new job, I’m not even sure what I’m good at!” Rainbow started to sob.
Scootaloo grabbed Rainbow and held her in a tight embrace. Rainbow began to calm down and cry softly into Scootaloo’s shoulder. Twilight began to have tears slide down her face.
“I know how you feel Rainbow; I know what it’s like to be earth bound. I will be there for you to help you through it. Your friends are also there for you, but no matter what happens, no matter how tough it is, I will be to help you know matter what. You taught me to stay strong and to face my fears, and now I’m here to help you do the same, because I will always be here, you’re my friend but more importantly you’re my sister.
Rainbow looked up at Scootaloo and smiled, they began to hug again crying tears of love onto each other’s shoulders.
“Thanks Scoots, I’m lucky to have you as a friend, no, a sister.”
