Starry´s nightmare of a life.
Part I. The arrival.
Starry Scar has always been a somewhat different pony, ever since he was a foul, he knew something was different. He was born by an uptight couple in Manehattan but got transferred to an orphan in Trottingham. He didn’t have many friends for he was bullied for his look. People on the street backed away from him because of the same thing.
Not even the caretakers on the orphan dare to walk in his room. His eyes were darker than Luna´s night and unfortunately it led to many children being scared of him, but it wasn’t he´s fault. It was an error he was born with.
One day he had enough. He was sick and tired of being discriminated and pushed aside of his look, so in a dark, cold and gloomy night he took the chance and escaped to a little village name Ponyville.
Starry- It is so calm and peaceful here.
Suddenly he bumped in to something. It was a mare.
Starry- I´m sorry miss. I didn´t see you there.
He held his front hoof against his forehead. The mare coughed.
Pink mare- It´s okay. Oh! You must be new in town because I know everypony and I have never seen you here before! Are you…are you?!
“Yes, I´m…” before he had the time to finish, the pink pony ran off while talking some kind of gibberish.
After witnessing this strange event he started look up to the dark night sky. “A heavy storm is on its way in.” He thought for himself. The only thing Starry could do now was getting some kind of shelter and town hall was the first place he went to. There he was greeted by a secretary behind the counter.
Secretary- Welcome to town hall.
her smile suddenly vanished when she looked at Starry. He knew that look on her face. He had seen it before but he had something more important to do so he brushed it aside.
Starry- I´m new to this town and i need a house.
He said trying to avoid direct eye contact.
Secretary- Why, of course. We only got one house available right now. It´s a bit beaten up. Because of its current state it has a discount of 700 bits.” She continued.
Starry- What is the current price?
Secretary- 500 bits
Part II. A rough night.
Starry- so I got the map and according to it I should be close. It should be about 250 meters from a place called Sugercube corner wherever that would be.
After walking for a while, he saw a cottage with very bright colors. It was almost the same color scheme as the houses around him but it stuck out somehow. After about 5 minutes of walking he finally reached his destination.
The house was as explained a bit beaten down though it was more than a little. The door was blocked with planks and nails, the windows where cracked and some were even smashed to pieces looking at the shards lying on the ground. The small path to the house was over grown and filled with leaves. There was also a big hole through the roof. He took a peek inside from one of the front windows.
The house did already have some furniture like bookshelves, chairs, a table and an old bed. The house was filled with dust and spider webs, probably blown in from the hole in the roof. Also the furniture was an in pretty bad shape.
“Need to get some renovation started tomorrow.” He thought to himself.
“I at least got a shelter from the storm” He mumbled for himself while removing the planks from the door. When he finally got inside the house, the smell of moisted wood hit him. About a huge amount of dust was spread all over the place.
As soon as the storm arrived the whole house started to shake. It felt like the house was going to crash down at him. The lightning bolts were bright as Celestia´s sun and the cold rain poured down, almost flooding it. Starry had to hide in the basement under a flipped bookshelf whish was supported by a table, forcing it to stay up from the floor. Then he took his saddlebags and finally went to sleep.
The next day Starry woke up early to the birds singing. He almost had any sleep at all because of the rough weather and his back hurt more than it ever had done before.
The house seemed intact though some planks from the roof had fallen down.
Starry- I´ve survived the first night and the storm in this old creepy place. Time to get some renovation done.
“Let see. I need planks, nails and…”He suddenly got interrupted by a voice coming from behind his back. It was another female voice but with a western accent.
Applejack- You´re not from around here are ya, new pony?”
Starry- No, I´m Starry.
He tilted his head down to the ground just to prevent eye contact
Applejack- Name is Applejack. I´m head of Sweet apple acres. It’s nice to meet you Starry. Why are looking down to the ground?”
She had a rather confused look in her eyes.
Starry sighed and a tear started to fall on his chin.
Starry- I- it´s my eyes. I have a problem with making eye contact with other ponies.
Applejack- Ah chucks. It can´t be that bad.”
To his surprise, she didn’t change her smile. “She is still smiling?” he thought for himself. It almost felt like she was telling the honest truth.
Starry- I have to get some materials for the house. Do you know any good places?
Applejack- There is a seller at the marketplace where you can get wood and nails. I can walk you there if you want. I have some work to do anyway.
Starry- I would love that.
Part III. An unexpected guest.
Well at the marketplace the area was crowded. Applejack was dealing with her daily work as a sellmare, selling apples and apple related products. The pegasi were clearing the sky to prepare a beautiful sunny day. The FlimFlam brothers performed their regular shows, always making a fool out of each other by trying to sell pesky products. The pink mare he met the first night in town was having a way of her time tossing up party decorations and confetti everywhere. Starry decided to meet Applejack at a café near her stand.
Starry- I met that pink mare in my first night here. Do you know who she is and how many kinds of ponies visit the Ponyville marketplace?
Applejack- That´s Ponyvilles own party animal Pinkie Pie. She is one of my best friends. If you wanna arrange any kind of parties then she is the perfect pony for the job. There´s mostly Ponyville folk but there´s also some ponies from all over Equestria as well. Why do you ask?
Starry- It’s important to get familiar with the towns folk so that you don’t make a fool of yourself.
Applejack- That’s right. But tell me Starry, what´s your story.
Starry- I was born in Manehattan as Starry Aurora then I got transferred to an orphan in Trottingham in a very young age. In that moment my problems started with…my eyes. As the problems got bigger so did the rift in my life. So I changed my last name to Scar.
After a while at the café it was time for the both ponies to go back home. He didn´t have enough sunlight to fix his house so that had to wait until next day. Well back home, he decided to get to bed directly wish meant in the basement under the bookcase. About five minutes after he shut his eyes a sudden giggle echoed in a distance though it sounded closer than he thought. The giggle got closer and closer and when he opened his eyes the giggle stopped.
He looked around for a brief second and then went asleep. It was important that he collected enough energy to fix the house the next day but in the same second the giggle appeared again, now lauder than before. Then the echo started to talk.
“…I´m gonna get you.” The voice said and then it was quite.
“Sense when did I started to hear things that isn´t there, but with the stuff I been through it wouldn´t surprise me at all.” He thought for himself.
The next day Starry started with the renovations early. Unfortunately he forgot to buy windows but it wasn’t important to fix that now. The important thing was the giant hole in the roof. Once that was fixed it was time to clean out all the dust.
When he got down to the basement he heard somepony knocking on the door. On the other side of the door stood a grey mare looking down like if she felt a shamed for something bad she had done.
Derpy- Hello. My name is Derpy Hooves and I accidently broke your mailbox…I’m sorry.
Starry- It´s okay. I had plans on changing it for a new one anyway.
Derpy- I almost forgot. I have a package and a letter for you.
Her sad fraun disappeared in a fraction of a second.
Starry- Who is it from?
Derpy- I don’t know. It doesn´t say who it is from. I´m only the mail mare. I must get going now. By the way, are you new to the town?
Starry- Yes, my name is Starry Scar. Nice to meet you.
After opening the unknown package and had picked up the item, he backed away slowly in chock. It was a regular kitchen knife with “I´m gonna get you” graved onto the blade. In the letter was a picture of a pony with a purple coat and pink/violet mane. On the other side of the photo it was written “remember me?”
“Could this get creepier?” He thought for himself and continued to clean the house. After a long day of work it was finally worth living in.
On the night when Starry went to bed the same events from last night appeared again. Same echo and same routine but something was off. This time there was a weak sound of somepony walking in the hallway. The giggles got lauder and lauder and the sound of hoofs got closer and closer until…the door opened and from the interstice two red glowing eyes was looking directly at him. Starry was shaking.
A second later the mystic pony jumped on to the bed and Starry avoided it by rolling off. It was the same pony as from the picture. She looked at Starry and smiled.
Moon- “Remember me?
She was holding the kitchen knife he got earlier that day.
He was shaking even more but dared to give a quick “I wish i did.” as a response.
Moon- Does Moonlight sound familiar?
To his surprise it did sound familiar. It was his older sister´s name. He couldn´t believe his eyes. Last time he saw her was at the orphan being dragged away to an asylum because she was mentally ill.
Starry- Sister? What happened to you?”
Moon- Oh, not much. The doctors at the said I was free to go so I thought it would be nice to meet my brother again.
Part IV. A bad decision
He didn´t want to spend one more second on in the same house with his insane sister. As he fled out through the front door, he could hear Moonlight laughing hysteric.
Moon- Do you think running away is going to save you?
Starry continued to run without caring that ponies all over the city block was waking up and wonder what all the commotion were about. He could hear Moonlight giggle in a far distance behind him. His only option was to hide in the forest right next to town.
“It will be a risk to venture in this forest but if Moonlight gets me, I´m done for it.” He thought and jumped right through a bush.
Her voice got closer and closer but he continued to hide just to make sure that she wouldn´t find him. After a while her voice started to fade away.
“It seems like I got away right in time. But where am I?” he though while getting his breath back
The forest was a horrible place and rumors said that this forest in fact was the Everfree forest. Home to some of the wildest and most dangerous creatures in Equestria. The only thing Starry could hear was the sound of crickets in a distance. After walking for a while it was time to head home. It was a risk to do it but Starry had the feeling that his nightmare was over. On the way to his house he was greeted by wondering eyes from ponies that just woke up. There was just silence but he could still feel the looks from behind.
When he went inside, he couldn´t believe his eyes. The once so clean and wonderful home he ran away from was now a complete mess. All the books in the living room were thrown all over the floor. Plates, forks and knifes were spread all over the place.
