Prologue - A Simple Mistake
Loud pawsteps hit the ground at a fast pace and yips of delight filled the air. A group of about six small animals galloped gracefully around the forest, not giving a care in the world as they scurried around, wrestling and playing with one another. One, a pure white one, was being a sneaky one. She giggled and skipped away from a fiery orange one, her brother, and let herself trip where she fell. She fell down a small hill and into a fast flowing river. The waves pulled her down, leaving nothing but a worried animal on the shore and no sound but that of the lapping water. Then, suddenly, the river froze up, becoming nothing but solid ice. That was weird, the orange one thought. There was no snow in the area and the sun was burning down on his fur harshly, making it hot to the touch. Without any warning, icicles cracked from the river ice and began to dance in the sky, overtop the orange wolf pup. They spun in patterns that one could find beautiful. Not this pup. No, instead, a growl escaped his throat and his fur began to heat up, until flames replaced his fur. Waving his short tail, he angled a gust of fire at the icicles, melting them immeditally.
"Hey!", an angered voice sounded as the ice on the river melted and the pure white wolf pup appeared once more, the watering running off her coat easily as ice. Her blue eyes were that of ice, though they were always like that, even when she happy.
"Yeah, Koori?", the flaming pup said as the flames died down, now leaving only his orange fur back. He gave his sister a grin.
Koori narrowed her ice blue eyes before she giggled once more and carefully unfolded her once frozen small wings. She crouched in a playful manner, unaware of her inability to control where her wings went. "I bet you haven't figured out how to fly yet, huh Honoo?", she yipped to her brother.
Before Honoo could respond, a spray of water showered him, covering him head to toe with the liquid. It came totally by surprise that the little pup couldn't help but to charge up again. This didn't help seeing as how the water put the flames out immeditally. Who was the culprit behind this annoying deed?
None other than Maji, the 'master' of water.
The water-furred blue pup was hysterically laughing among the waves of the river, to the point where he had to open one of his wings in order to touch his own head to calm himself down. Koori couldn't help it, she laughed as well.
"Ha ha. Very funny. You two know that as an elemental wolf of fire that I hate the water being on me. And ice too", Honoo shook his fur, ridding the water from his pelt. "And to your first question, it's a no. And no wonder. None of us are old enough"
By this point, both Maji and Koori had calmed down, though Maji didn't leave the water. To him, leaving the water was a waste of them. One often wondered why water wolves even had wings in the first place. They rarely flew and more preferred to swim than anything else.
"Oh, pa-lease. We could fly if we wanted to except wimps like you are just too scared to try it. Who are you, Nyasi?", Koori sarcastically stated, her nose twitching. Sighing, she turned her ice blue eyes to the side and up, her gaze locked onto something. "Nysai, is that you?"
A moment of silence and then a small green pup appeared from the shadows, leaves replacing her fur. She rarely ever had just fur and never really flew either. She just glided. Like most plant wolves did. She didn't leap down but simply sat on a low hanging branch, her special bond with nature keeping her steady. She didn't speak.
Without any warning, two other pups burst to the scene, bolt with large grins on their face. Only when one, a bright yellow one with electricity sparking from his fur, was pushed did they notice the others. "Hey, Giza!" he barked roughly to the other. This one was a feisty one, a pup who was normal in a way of actually keeping her fur on but large amounts of black smoke mingled around her body, which were meant to make it easy for her to combine with the shadows. Not to mention that her eyes were pure red. She didn't seem to listen to the electric pup but upon casting her gaze around, did she stop, seeing the others. Letting out a small sigh, Giza sat down, the black smoke now covering the majority of her appearance.
"Seems like you can't control your sister there Denki", Nysai snickered from her post in the tree. Denki glared at the leaf wolf before glancing towards the others, ignoring Nysai.
"Mind if I ask something?", he asked, static leaving his bright fur.
"If you must", Honoo muttered, loud enough for everyone present to hear.
Denki didn't understand why everyone could be playful one second and then all serious the next. They were only six of the elemental pups and there were still a lot more, including some elements that weren't even present. Those normally were doing something else, or they were forced to go practice something. Boring stuff. The moon and sun pups had to learn how to control their powers. The light wolves learned the history of light itself. And well... there were others.
"Have any of you seen Hadithi lately? I'm worried that he... well, I'm worried he is doing something he shouldn't" Denki voiced his worries, knowing what their reactions would be.
Silence.
Maji broke the silence with more laughter. "You actually care about that freak?! Oh! You're too funny electric-wolfy". However, by Denki's blank stare, the laughter faded. "Oh, you're really serious?"
"Honestly, why is that a concern? Hadithi can do whatever he wants, it won't effect us as long as, how the elders put it, 'He stays under control and safe'. But really, what is so important about him? Other than being a freak?" Koori responded, irritation filling her voice. The others nodded, agreeing with her statement.
Geez. Sometimes his friends were so insensitive. There was obviously a reason why the elder wolves were interested in him and why they lectured everyone to make sure he stayed 'under control' and safe. Maybe he was a freak but Denki was simply looking out for his friend now. Last time Hadithi had done something where he wasn't seen in a while, he had gotten into the potion room and caused a massive chain reaction. He was trying to prevent the mischievous pup from doing anything stupid.
He was about to make a smart remark but the sound of pawsteps sounded next to them. Everyone, even Maji, stopped to stare, their senses alert as they waited for whoever, or whatever to appear.
It was first a book that slid out of the bushes, on a smooth, slippery surface that looked like ice. By Koori's sniffing, it seemed so. Then, the bush seemed to lift up the book before a small flame started where the bush collapsed but the book remained floating, held by something. Or someone.
Hadithi. In only a matter of seconds he was used ice, leaf, fire, and now shadow. The pup finally appeared, the effects of his shadow ability wearing off. The book was placed gently in his mouth and his yellow, staticly tail wagged with happiness. He was a little big for his age but no wonder. His eyes were never one color. Every other minute, they would change to a different pattern. It was at random and he had no control of it, and now one was blue and the other, purple. He was also a clear mixture of multiple elements, showing mainly electric, shadow, fire, water, ice, leaf, and magic. Electric in his tail, shadow by the smoke surrounding him a little bit, fire in his back, water in his front legs, ice in his wings, leaf in his back legs, and power in his face. Though the other elements were mixed in, some weren't even seeable but by how the other wolves always reacted, it was clear they were in him. Hadithi was strange. That was true but now a freak surely. He was just different and he tried his best to fit in with the others.
"Uh, what is that?" Giza barked emotionlessly, as she raised her black paw to point at the old, beat-up book in his mouth.
Hadithi placed the book down and quickly used his weak but usable telekinesis to flip to a bookmarked page. "I've been reading this book about other worlds and dimensions and I'm confused about what this means. But it sounds really exciting!" The pup hopped a little in delight as, almost immeditally, Nysai leaped down from her post in the tree to stand besides the taller canine. Like usual, she didn't speak but she gently tapped a small sentence in the bottom right corner with a vine steming for her tail.
Hadithi nodded and eagarly narrowed his now both purple eyes to read it. "I only read this in my head but still it sounds weird. 'When it is spoken, one and two will combine marking the release of it being truly divine. It is simply S-Subra...uh...Subarashii!'" He finished, not caring about his problem with the last strange word.
Nysai tilted her head once, about to speak when suddenly, the book began to levitate and large amounts of light blinded the seven pups. Maji wasn't giggling. No one was. Even Nysai and Giza showed great fear as they watched, cowering at the book. It glowed and winds blew all around it. The pups began to back away. All but one. Hadithi remained still, his blue eyes locked on the twirling book. He was in some sort of trance because he didn't blink. He stared, the light and wind not effecting him in the slightest. The others didn't run but they lingered and stared, both at the 'magical' book and the freak pup who wasn't afraid of the possible dangerous thing. No one knew what was going to happen and no one was prepared for what happened next.
A force as strong as all of the power wolves pushing him at once was now behind him. The force pushed Hadithi towards the book a lightning quick pace. Light flared wildly and the wind now swirled heavily around the book, making Denzi's desperate attempts at grabbing Hadithi's tail and pulling him back, a waste of time and energy. A few loud whimpers were heard and many desperate attempts using elements to get free were used but then there was nothing. No sound.
The light glared once more, causing the entire forest to be covered in the blinding light. In the matter of seconds, the winds stopped, the light faded, and the book plopped to the ground. A strange picture on the book vanished the moment the pups regained their sight and the book slammed shut.
Nothing but silence followed. Denzi was still in shock as were the others but it was Maji who scurried forward. He gently poked the book with a water soaked paw before he whispered, "Was that a portal?"
Yes. It was. And the portal had taken Hadithi. Where though? To another world. Another dimension. Although it was Hadithi faults, the pups, all of them felt dread and shock at the simple thought of the freak pup getting lost in another world.
They could've stopped him. But they didn't.
What had they done?
