A Dragon's Call
Prologue
Load Full StoryAll I knew at the moment was speed and agility as I flew through the burning building. The only thing on my mind was the fact that somewhere inside this building was a pony that needed help. That pony was behind a single door among the hundreds that the old hotel used to offer residence. It was kind of weird that somepony was in an abandoned hotel but places like this often became home to the homeless.
As I moved towards the room that the pony I’d already heard was in, my heightened senses picked up the scent of burning flesh. I opened the door only to discover a mare lying motionless on the ground burning but almost luckily deceased. When I turned to leave however the building shook violently causing a few beams outside to fall.
What I almost didn’t notice was something that fell out of the closet or rather somepony. The other pony was a pegasus stallion that had, from the looks of it, bit his own wings off, likely due to them being on fire. He was trying to support a beam on his back from crushing the room for some reason. When he noticed me he nearly instantly motioned to saddlebags between him and the mare with hope radiating in his eyes.
As I approached the saddlebags however I noticed what really killed the mare, a small stab wound on her head. It was then I realized the mare had been assassinated before the building caught fire but I decided to focus on that later. Inside the saddlebags was a small filly that was barely breathing so without hesitation I took the bags and left with the filly.
I had rescued a filly but there was still somepony else there so I rushed into the last room to try and help. What I saw terrified me to no end, the pony that had originally called for help was one that anypony would recognize. Standing there in all her deceitfulness was a white alicorn with a multicolor mane. I knew it would be impossible to escape a trap that involved the Solar Princess herself twice.
“Princess Celestia,” I seethed with as much hate as I could muster. She merely, and effortlessly, encased me in her magical aura while scanning my body language for my next move. Luckily she had the sense to teleport us to the castle before we continued this conversation. As much as I hated her, the Princess was very good at teleportation as in one fell swoop I found myself naked and behind bars. On the other side was Celestia whom was busy looking at everything I had before the teleportation.
“Why can’t I remove that bracelet of yours?” she asked with annoyance clear in her voice. I didn’t even need to look at the bracelet that will remain on my left hind leg until I, and only I, decided otherwise.
“It just loves me,” I answered in a mocking tone at least for a little while since I found it hard to take her seriously. Most ponies will bow to her without a second thought but that was from mainly fear not respect.
“Fine, keep your bracelet. It doesn’t even conceal a weapon witch is odd. The last time we met I was able to take your things yet you yourself evaded my teleportation spell. How?” she said starting to ask the fun questions. Finally after an hour of how I did this and that I was left alone in my lovely prison cell.
-----Celestia’s POV----
I rubbed my head as, after an hour of absolutely no progress at all; I finally decided that he could wait until tomorrow. I looked up at the moon knowing full well that the time was almost upon us, the time when Nightmare Moon would return. If the predictions were accurate it would be only three years away but Celestia always liked to be prepared ahead of time. She was certain that the return of the pegasus in the dungeon was no coincidence and if he were to help Nightmare Moon it would certainly spell disaster. After ten years of searching for him they had come across each other a few times. The first five times he was merely an illusion but nearly a year ago he had escaped her teleportation spell.
-----Back in the dungeons----
I waited patiently for the beloved ruler of Equestria to fall asleep. Some ponies believed that Celestia didn’t actually require sleep and though close to the truth it didn’t change the fact that she did. While most ponies needed about ten hours every night the sun goddess needed merely three. Although she usually slept for about seven to keep her schedule nearly the same as always.
I waited until I could finally hear the faint sound of sleeping though how I knew it was Celestia I’d never tell anyone. I continued to wait for her to fall into a deeper sleep by meditating on my next task, escape the dungeon. When I opened my eyes nearly an hour had passed so I decided to make my move. It would take mere seconds to break out normally but I still had to get my gear. Finally outside my cell I put on my bracers before finally adorning the red trimmed white cloak that I usually had on me.
Once outside the entirety of Canterlot I adjusted a few hidden dials on my anklet to get it just perfect. It took a while but my appearance finally became to my liking. I would miss my usual brown coated appearance with its darker brown mane but I looked a lot like Doctor Whooves and it was obvious to nearly everypony.
My new look consisted of a light yellow, nearly white; coat and my mane became a light blue color. I would have to wait for a mirror before I changed my eye color. I sighed in annoyance before I flew back to base and unfortunately it was a quiet flight. Most ponies absolutely hate the thought of fighting but it became a pastime for me and it usually relieved my aggression.
I landed near the outer edge of Whitetail Woods, checking for followers, before landing and heading inside. Nopony really talks about Whitetail Woods probably because many mistake it for the woodlands about a mile south, the Everfree Forest. Ponyville is about three miles south and three hundred meters east but it’s the closest town.
I’d gotten distracted and nearly missed the marking on the tree where I was supposed to turn. Luckily, I didn’t miss it though and turned south walking until I found what I was looking for. It would be called a haven to anypony else with a small hill that seemed to always have grass growing to the colorful flowers planted around. In the center of everything was a small pond maybe ten meters in diameter but I knew the secrets of this place as few others did.
“The past is prelude, tomorrow a dim promise. Allow us entrance, do not reject us,” I uttered the ancient phrase next to the pond. After a few seconds the sparkling clear pond raised a few feet before sliding back a little revealing an underground staircase. I was down about ten feet before the pond above slid back into place covering the entrance once again.
I’d finally reached my destination, a giant underground room with very few ponies walking about. The ponies came from all over the world but they all had the same cloak as mine. Carved in the floor of the nearly circular room was our insignia, it looked like two scythes forming an upside down ‘v’ pattern. I always loved the insignia of the Assassins Creed but right now I needed to finish my new disguise and get my Creed photo updated.
