Blitz abandoned his task and flew down to the ground, alighting on the grass of the small front yard. Duskshine peered at him through the pink force field, his mane looking slightly disheveled. Dusk's horn flared a bright magenta, and the magical shield disintegrated in a flurry of sparks, leaving the two stallions standing face-to-face.
"You're right, Rainbow," said Duskshine, holding his head surprisingly high. "We do need to talk. Please, come in." He motioned to the open door with his hoof, turned, and entered through it, Rainbow Blitz close behind.
The library was slightly disorderly by Rainbow's standards, but by Dusk's normal qualifications, it would probably be classified as a disaster area. Dozens of books were scattered across the floor, some lying face up, some face down, and a couple standing upright, their covers slightly spread, giving them support. It looked like Dusk had been up all night studying or something. A few chalkboards displayed diagrams laid out in grainy white, but Duskshine flipped all of them with his magic before Blitz could get a good look at any of them.
Dusk magically conjured the couch that normally sat in the big room on the third floor and laid down on it. He gestured behind Rainbow, offering him a simple metal chair with what looked like an engraving of a circle on the seat. Just a circle. There was no point to it, and there seemed to be no real reason for it to be there.
"Sit," he said politely. So Blitz sat. He normally would have protested the difference of furniture between them, but he was not going to fuck up this one chance to make things right with his friend. He sat in the cold metal chair, supporting his weight with his plot. "Revenge?"

His horn glowed, and he levitated over a small, simple rectangle of metal with a red button and short antenna. Dusk reached up with a hoof and pressed the button manually. Several large panels opened on the wood floor, and a vast assortment of contraptions, doohickeys, gizmos, and thingamabobs extended to hover over Blitz's head.
"What the buck are those things?!" he yelled in terror.
"This," said Dusk, "is what I've been working on for the last two days!" He said it with the kind of excitement one might expect from a school filly who had just won front row tickets to a Sapphire Shores concert. He stepped back and began to walk around Blitz counterclockwise.
