//-------------------------------------------------------// The Last of Us -by FireShine- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// A Morning of Grief //-------------------------------------------------------// A Morning of Grief I lay on my aching back, staring at the bright ball of fire in the sky as I realize its daytime. I get up and stretch out my neon blue wings and try to dust my dirt filled rainbow main and tail. Seems like a typical morning, right? Wrong. I blink ever so wearily and I adjusted my vision so what I couldn't make out the blotches of colors I was seeing. I glanced around the small cave and noticed that my 5 other friends weren't here with me. I desperately wanted to leave and find them, but only God knows what is out there. And besides, the rules are somebody must be watching the cave at all times. I yawned and scratched my back. Probably gathering breakfast. I wanted to get up and brush my teeth but with what toothpaste or toothbrush would I? I'm practically a cave pony now. I suddenly hear trampling heading toward the cave opening so I walk toward it. Afraid that it was one of them, I brought the gun with me just in case. "Well, that's it for firewood," I heard from Princess Twilight Sparkle's voice. I watched her as her purple presence entered the cave followed by the other 4 ponies. "Wake up sleepy head!" Pinkie Pie, the completely pink and enthusiastic hyper one of the group, said to me as she hopped toward me. Applejack, with dark circles around her eyes said in a drowsy mood, "We tried waking you up but you wouldn't so we decided to leave ya." I grunted. "Got me scared to death! Well...obviously I wasn't scared but I was..uh...worried. I mean how would you like it if you woke up alone and those...things are out there?" I was truly scared and I think they acknowledge that, but I urged to hide the factors. "Did...you see any out there?" Twilight shook her head, sending her violet mane with pink highlights swishing back and fourth within the morning breeze. "No sign of them, not even one. I think we're safe here for now, they're more active at night so we should keep watch." I nodded but felt queasy in my stomach. It was nerve-racking to think about. "We..we got breakfast," Fluttershy stammered shyly. Fluttershy in my point of view was extremely too shy and didn't have the guts to stand up to herself to this kind of environment. Hell, she wouldn't stand a chance in this new world. It gets me worried. Applejack stacked the firewood and Twilight lit up her horn to try and light the flame to cook our breakfast. Rarity, who was usually the beauty of our group looked surprisingly the messiest. "Ugh!" She bloated. "I can't stand these conditions! I just want to go back to Ponyville!" She whined. Second to die, I thought guiltily. "Ponyville is gone, Rarity. Its time to move on." Twilight shook her head and whimpered. "I just wish I could have saved Spike.." Applejack fixed her gaze upon Twilight. "Hey, sugar. We had to make sacrifices. I'm just glad we're together. Hopefully we'll all stay together. I wonder what happened to Big Mac, Applebloom, and my other relatives...I know they're alive. They have to be, they grew up in the country with me so they're used to this kind of life." I sighed. "It just doesn't seem right. Cloudsdale practically doesn't exist anymore." That silenced them. Total silence for a minute, then two, then three . . . Finally the fire was tall and ready for cooking. We took the dead turkey that the others caught and skinned earlier, and placed it on the wooden rod and held it over the flames. Fluttershy moaned in the corner like she was about to cry. She was always a vegan. Animals were her passion, her friends. I watched as the meat crisped overtime and it was ready to slide off the rod. "Breakfast is ready," said Applejack, who probably had the best survival skills of all of us. She sliced pieces of meat off the turkey onto our plates and we silently ate up the sloppily cooked meal. "I don't want to eat this..." Fluttershy whinnied. I sighed in annoyance and glared at her. "Do you want to live? Or be the first to die?" "Cool it, Rainbow Dash," Applejack warned. I sat back down slowly and Fluttershy began picking at the meat. It must be difficult for her. Eating her friends. Still, absolutely pathetic. When we were done, we stacked our plates and had Rarity clean them for our next meal. They were the only plates we had. We had to make use of every item we could. I lingered around for the rest of the morning, layed in my sleeping bag on the cold dirt floor. I sometimes sketched shapes in the dirt, sometimes ran around for exercise...but for the most part. I imagined a perfect world. Just like the one we once had. A world where fillies went to school, ponies got jobs, no conflict, just a perfect world. "Celestia...if you're out there..." I prayed to myself. "Please, just keep watch of my friends. Please make them safe. Make this the perfect world that was once here. I just want to have my friends back. This world isn't normal anymore...and every second of our lives are now wasted for looking for the creatures that creep around here. Some kind of virus, I guess. Some kind of flu...that when one pony gets bitten we loose our minds and turn into something we're not. Its only been 5 days, and I'm already barely surviving out here and they're multiplying. Please...get rid of these...these...zombies!" //-------------------------------------------------------// Let's Have Some Fun //-------------------------------------------------------// Let's Have Some Fun The afternoon went by briefly. No zombies in sight as we see it. I was bored, had nothing to do, we had no fun like we used to. I was just surrounded by depressed ponies with no more sense of humor or joy in them, except for Pinkie Pie of course. Pinkie was always joyful, its just the pony she naturally is. I knew she would want to have fun. Fluttershy was too scared, Rarity was to conscious about her cleanliness, Applejack was too busy, and Twilight was not in the mood and too "mature". I scampered next to Pinkie who was sitting on the cold cave floor, doing nothing like most of us. "Hey, Pinkie Pie..." I said shyly which wasn't like me. "Hey, Dash! Want to see a new trick I learned?" "Oh...uhm...sure, of course Pinkie. Show me what you got." Pinkie Pie happily tripped about 5 feet away from me, before doing an effortless cartwheel. She turned her body like a wheel almost. I shyly clapped my hooves together as she did her fabulous trick. Why was I acting this way? "Pinkie?" I asked. She turned her wild pink curls to me. "Yes, Dashie?" I sighed, "Why aren't you afraid?" "Well...I like to look on the bright side of things. Just laugh and have fun!" I snorted. "How can we have fun at times like this? Its a fricken apocalypse I tell you!" Pinkie rolled her eyes. "You have to learn Dashie that in bad times you have to make something fun! Lets just be happy!" "What's the point? We're just going to die," I said glumly. What was I saying? I was just looking for fun but now I'm getting slapped with reality. "Have fun while you can." I rotated my head, whipping my scrappy rainbow mane. "Huh?" She giggled. "Y'know, silly goose! While we're still here! Why not have fun? Who says we're going to die anyway?" I thought about it. She really wasn't wrong. "I guess so. But what to do?" "Wellllll...we can sneak out and find somewhere." "Are you crazy?!" I hissed. "You want us to get eaten?" Pinkie shook her head. "What are we supposed to do? Stay in here?" "Well we can't go out there!" I protested. I really wanted to have fun with her. But we just can't. "Looks like someone is scared," Pinkie teased. "Hell no! Watch it, Pie, before you regret something." Pinkie laughed and snorted. Why is she like this? "Look, Rainbow! We cant live our lives in dull boringness! You're like the only pony here who knows how to have fun. Do you want to make me change your mind?" "No...uh....no.." "Well then why won't you have fun with me?" "The risk of being eaten alive?" "They said there was no sight of them. Wherever they are, they aren't around here." Pinkie Pie wasn't usually like this, getting smart with me. "Well.." "Well?" I didn't know what to do. I'm going to trust her, even though I feel like I will regret it. "Let's have some fun."
