Alzheimer's

by The Monstre

The day was bright and sunny in Ponyville. A beautiful spring day. The air - now intoxicating with each inhale. The smell - the smell of wet dew and spring flowers. The sky - blue as ever with little clouds and pegasi flying around. The yellow farm pony - Applejack - was trotting through Ponyville. Going to one specific place. She closed her stand early because she needed to be there in a quick hurry.

The clock was at 12:20 Pm. Applejack saw it at the tower as she was passing by. Applejack was nervous. She didn't know why she's nervous. Why should't she be nervous? Should she be nervous. Applejack is a tough mare. She should have the time to be nervous. But sadly, she is nervous.

She was in front of the building. Her heart was throbbing. Stomach churring. And sweat pouring from her eyes. She had to restraint herself for just a little bit. She inhaled. Exhaled. Inhaled. Exhaled. Repeat. Repeat. She headed inside the building.

As she made it through the doors and was greeted by the guard pony - he was tall, strong, brown coat and black mane, the uniform covering his cutie mark. The main lobby was large, white ceiling roofs and light blue walls and different color and decorations of rugs. Applejack went to the front desk where a mare - while mane and white coat and her cutie mark is a a heart - was there and waiting.

Applejack looked at her. The white haired mane pony was reading a book and didn't notice Applejack, until she sensed her. She looked at her and said, with a soft and gentle tone, "Why, hello, miss. Oh, you must be Applejack, right!"

"Well miss ah am. How do ya do?" Applejack tilted her hat to her.

"Well I'm fine, Miss Applejack. If your here to see you grandmother she right down the hall and to the left, she'll be in room 12," she pointed and showed her.

"Why th'nk ya kind'y," she said and trotted to the direction where the mare said and made it to room 12.

She was getting that nervous feeling again.

She inhaled and exhaled.

Repeat.

Repeat.

She slowly placed her right hoof on the door nob...

Inhale

...she slowly turned the door nob...

Exhale

...making a little effort to push the door...

Repeat

...while the door is making a little squeeeeeaaaaak...

Repeat

...until finally the door was fully open...

Applejack was petrified to see her grandmother on the ground as Applejack was gonna see if she was all right. Granny Smith complained that her stomach was hurting her and that she excused herself from the table and went to her room to sleep it off.

That was two hours ago!

Applejack didn't know what to do. She screamed. That was the only idea she had. She ran to her by her side.

Granny Smith was face down on the wooded floor and her white hair covering all of her head. Applejack shook her with her left hoof.

"Granny Smith," she cried. Tears running down her cheeks.

"Granny Smith," she cried again. This time she sob in her hooves.

She screamed, "Help! Help! Big Macintosh! Applebloom! Help!"

In an instant they ran to her like they could've teleported and stood still.

Big Mac ran out the door and left to Ponyville while leaving Applejack, Applebloom, and the now dead or not dead Grandmother.

Applebloom was just as terrified as Applejack, but she didn't know what was happing. For her little young, innocent mind this was too much for her. She panicked. She huddled to her older sister and sobbed with her.

For about ten minutes (which felt like an eternity) Big Mac arrived with help. The ambulance came in and went just like that.

Applejack saw her grandmother's eyes closed. They told her she was alive, but they needed to take her to the hospital for closer examination...

Applejack didn't have that stomach turing feeling anymore. In fact, she didn't feel, nor hear anything. It was like a brief moment that time stopped when she went inside the room. She looked around the room. Examining it.

It has three walls all colored blue with with one wall was a huge window. The window had a great view of the park and beyond. The rug was light brown and a hooves couch. There- her grandmother- was there. She was sleeping. Her head resting on her left hoof. The chair was in front of the huge window.

Applejack took a stool that was next to her brought in front of the chair her grandmother is in.

She sat her rump on the stool and stared at her.

"Hello, Miss Apple Smith. Woohoo, get up," said Applejack. Trying not to use her southern accent. It was kinda hard.

Her grandmother eyes began to move around under her eyelids till she opened them fully.

She looked at her...

The Apple family, Applejack, Big Mac, and Applebloom, all went to the hospital that night. They were waiting at the waiting room for two hours. They still didn't get any word from their Granny.

Till suddenly, the door was slammed open by one of the doctors. He looked around the waiting room, which nopony was their, till he found the family.

"You three," he said," you may come in and see your grandmother now"
Applejack, Bloom, and Mac left the waiting room and followed the doctor to their grandmother.

"Hey doc' could ya tell us what happ'n ta my Granny Smith?" Applejack wanted to know.

"Well, Miss Applejack, your grandmother had a heart attack. We didn't know how did it happen. Your grandmother is a very healthy mare at her age. But..."

"But-?"

" - well you must see for yourself. Were here." The doctor showed them the door.

Big Mac told Applejack that he must take Applebloom home for her rest.

"Fine," she said.

Big Mac place his hoof on his sister's shoulder. "Stay strong," he said and left.

She open the door to see her grandmother on the bed with IVs next to her; wires all over the ground.

Applejack saw her. She went next to her and said, " Granny Smith, are ya all right?"

Granny Smith looked at her and blinked. "Wha," she muttered, but more of a soft not audible sound.

"Granny Smith it's me, Applejack."

Granny Smith still looked at her.

"Sweet heart I have no idea what your talking about. And who you calling 'granny'? I ain't got no grand children..."
