"Pinkamena Dianna Pie." I look up to see my mother standing above me." How many times have I told you, there isn't anything in this world that can make you happy."

"But, Mom." I began.

"No, I'm sorry, but you can't go." She says.

I look down at the invitation in my hooves." Yeah, ok." I say gloomily. I imidently put it into the trash bin. And with that I move outside. I look around and I see Dad working in the rock garden. Now I look left and see Mom hanging towels on the clothes line. How did she get out here so fast? Maude had been out in the town picking up any supplies we needed. I walk out to the rock field, where our helper,Cosmos, was breaking rocks. He noticed me as I walked up.

"Oh, hi Pinkamena. How are you today?" He asked with his usual dopey grin.

"Just as I'll ever be, gray." I say and this must have put a dampiner on his day, because his smile completely falter.

Poor Cosmos, he is stuck with such a dreary family, on a dreary rock farm, earning dreary minimum wage. And yet he goes about smiling and happy, as if nothing is wrong.

He must have noticed that, I saw him and he smiled again, just less happy. "Oh, well I'm here to help all you have to do is ask." He said.

"Thanks." I say with a gloomy, sarcastic tone. He returns to his work. "Wait, Cosmos can you help me?" I ask quietly.

"Anything." He says.

"Could you help me sneak out tonight?" I ask.

"I don't know, why?" The gray earth pony asked suspiciously.

"Don't worry I just wanted to go to a party." I say.

"Party, who's party." He asks now with a large smile.

"Oh, just a girl named Starlight gave me an invitation to the party. I remember it very clearly this morning." I say." She caught me on my walk this morning. She said she really wanted to see me there. But, Mom said I couldn't go, she said it would be a bad idea. What do you think?" I say finally.

"I don't know. Do you even know her?" He asks.

"I've seen her in town before. But surely she was trying to be nice right?" I say confidently.

"Yeah, nice." He said." But I will help you out so don't worry." He finishes with a smile.

"Thanks" I say as I through my hooves around him." You're my best friend." I say.
