When Twilight and Princess Celestia are working on some of Starwirl the Bearded's groundbreaking discoveries, they uncover a rather huge theory, that he was unable to research. The spell itself was unknown to both Twilight or Celestia. When Twilight decides to preform the early stages of the unknown spell, she unintentionally plummets Equetria's inhabitants into what looks like an alternate word. All while encasing the ponies in multiple protection domes that don't seem to be opening. 3 generations down the line, a young mare decides that she is sick of her confinement, she decides to work out a way to escape the dome, and figure out a way back to the real Equestria; a place that she has only heard of. But this may not prove to be as simple as she thought.
