Memories
Yesterday

I woke up, turning to the side. This bed is really comfortable. The pillows are nice, too.Yesterday was crazy, I thought to myself. Especially when Vinyl woke me up just for my birthday, she' so spe-"Happy birthday!"I covered my ears nearly instantly. I could feel the party streamer-thing-that-you-blow-into tap the back of my head. I could assume she was smiling."Very funny, Vinyl. My birthday was yesterday, if you can even remember."I can hear a short pause followed by a nervous perk."B-but I thought your birthday was the 16th! Oh, crap! Did I really miss it? But you didnt even say anything! Look, Tavi, I'm really really-"I flipped back over, facing Vinyl. "No, it's the 16th. Today's just the 17th, you dummy"Vinyl pointed to the calendar I keep by my bed. I make sure to check off every night. I don't know why, I just do. It keeps me organized. Believe it or not, the 16th was not checked off yet."But I could have sworn we already celebrated it..."Vinyl poked my side. "Must'a just've been dreaming it. C'mon! I got your whole day planned!"She dragged me out of bed, and led me into the kitchen. I sat down on the barstool, rubbing the last of the sleep from my eyes. She put a plate of okay-ly made food in front of me."Today for your high class meal, we have egg on waffle with just a touch of syrup, hash browns, and some freshly squeezed orange juice. And to top it all off we have-"I interrupted. "Oven pancakes waiting in the oven?"Vinyl looked a little stooped. "How'd you guess?""I guess I was just hoping for the best" I gave a weak smile. They really were my favorite, though.Vinyl smiled and looked into the oven. "Well they're almost ready, so you enjoy your breakfast while I get something else prepared for you"I dug into the breakfast. I get pretty hungry in the morning. I am breaking my fast, I guess. So that makes sense. The breakfast wasn't really all that bad. The egg yolk could have been more yolk-y, the waffle was a little burnt, and the hash browns... were pretty alright, I guess. However, I do remember the oven pancakes being absolutely delicious. As soon as I finished that thought, Vinyl came back in. She opened up the oven and took out the oven pancakes. The corners and edges were all fluffed up, while the center was nice and flat. I licked my lips."I knew that these were your favorite, Tavi, so I managed to get the secret recipe from your mom just so I could make them for you"She dished me up a plate. I put a slab of butter on it and poured some syrup, allowing it to cover the delicacy evenly. In four bites the piece was gone.Licking my lips again I took a gulp of the orange juice. Pulpy, just the way I like it.I think I remember what comes next."Now, I've got a shower ready to go whenever you are" She said, caressing a hoof across my mane.I followed her into the bathroom and got into the shower. The water was perfect.
I sat around the dinner table. It was later in the day. It definitely felt a little odd repeating everything again. Or maybe my brain is tricking me into déjà vu. Thoughts are really easily sculpted into whatever you want them to be.Only close friends were with me today. Vinyl, of course. Lyra and my old friend from university was there as well. They weren't dating, of course, but I didn't mind. I never fancied any of them in that way for our entire friendship. Except that one time. But that was different. That was in high school.Lyra was rambling on about a story from university. I've already heard it before. Something about how are parts got mixed up and she was stuck trying to play low notes on a small lyre.Classic Lyra. She was so calm and collected in university, albeit the weird fascination with imaginary creatures.Who's she dating now, Bon Bon? Somepony or another. Why couldn't she make it? I don't really know."-and then that whole thing started all over again. Crazy, huh?" I only caught the last part. I didn't answer."Octavia?"I snapped out of it."What? Oh, yeah. Sheet music. Crazy"She squinted at me. Or, at least, I assume so. She does that. The night has gone a little different than what I thought it should have. Maybe because I brought it off of its normal track. Or whatever it was.I rubbed my eyes again. Today just felt off. Was I really dreaming it all? I don't know. Maybe it's not healthy to talk to myself with my thoughts. I should probably stop. "What about you, Vinyl, got any good stories from our past?"She smiled and took a sip of her drink. I listened for a little bit before drowning her out. It was the same story: when she first fell in love with me. Hell, its not even true. The first time was when she was high off her ass eating bags of funyons like sleeves of oreos. I'm pretty sure it was to the funyon, as well. But she didn't mean it then, at least I think. She doesn't even remember that happening.I do however. She's just telling the cliché story of us in the rain. I was soaking and crying- she had an umbrella. Except it really wasn't that romantic. I like the funyons story better.I was stuck staring at her broach, however. It paired nicely with the red dress she had on at the moment. I've always liked her coat color. Her eyes too. They were lovely. The broach was a music note. Maybe it was more of a pin? I dont really know. I could have sworn it should have-Plink-fallen off by now.She reached down to grab it. Something just didn't feel right. I feel woozy. Like a wave of vertigo had just overcome me."I-I'm going to lay down for a bit. I don't feel so well."I got up, stumbling. Vinyl said something but all I could hear was a soft muffled sound. Ringing.I fell onto the couch and closed my eyes."I'll see you tomorrow, Vinyl."
