You gave a long low sigh as you waited on the front porch of your new cottage. After your parents kicked you out, you bought this little place for almost nothing at all. Nearly twenty miles from Canterlot, this cottage was in the middle of freaking nowhere, there wasn’t even a road that allowed you to take a cab to work at The Secret Ingredient. You had to walk a painful twenty miles to work each day. On the bright side, you thought, I won’t have to walk alone anymore. If only she would get here!
You had finally finished prepping the guest room and were anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new roommate. You turned your head so fast you got a crick in your neck. You had thought you had seen movement. Groaning and rubbing your neck a bit, you looked up at the sky again and saw a speck that was seemingly approaching your cottage. It was getting closer and you could start to make out the wings. That couldn’t be her! You quickly closed your jaw. Her wingspan had to be at least seven feet! As she got closer to the ground, you could see the color of her pelt. It was a rich bright purple, close to that of an orchid. Not only were her wings above average size, they were seemingly perfect, preened to the last downy feather.
Her mane was just as impressive. Reaching just below the top of her shoulders, it was a shimmering waterfall of honey brown hairs. I hope she doesn’t have too many toiletries you thought to yourself, I only have two bathrooms and neither of them is very large. Your thoughts trailed off as she got even closer. You could see something bobbing against her chest, a medallion of sorts. You could see her tail now. It was around the same length as her tail and just as well groomed. Both had the same shimmering waves and color. She must have been flying fast because her mane was still windswept. Strangely, there didn’t seem to be any flyaway strands.
Your eyes drifted over her figure. Luckily she was still too far up to see that you were looking over her body. She wasn’t thin or fat. She was athletic and streamlined. Her legs were perfectly muscled, but not so much that you could see strain marks in her skin, but enough that you could make out each strong lump if you looked long enough. Your gaze traveled down to her flanks. You squinted to try to make out the shape on them. Her cutie mark was a silver shield with two crossed pencils in front of it. She had said online that her job was moving her to Canterlot, you mused, I wonder what sort of job she has?
You didn’t have any more time to think about her, because she was getting ready to land. You had seen pegasi land before and knew it must take a lot of concentration, especially coming from that high up. She would have to slow down and-wait she wasn’t slowing down. She was speeding up! You saw her fold her wings in with a loud SNAP! Did she break her wings? Either way she was going to crash! You jumped to your feet and made a movement as if to go towards her but she had sped up even more! Was she even in control of her speed anymore? Your question was suddenly answered as she did a high-speed barrel roll towards the ground then suddenly opened her wings again, landing gracefully on all four hooves. She was just as beautiful as she was in the air, if not more so. You tried to keep your jaw from going slack again, but realized it already had. She snorted at your reaction. Aw shit, you thought, Now I’m going to be living with one of those mares with a big attitude! The last thing you wanted was a fight every time you talk. From the looks of her, you would probably lose too.
Your concerns suddenly melted when you saw she muzzle crack into a crooked Mona Lisa grin. Great job bud, you thought, Now she thinks you’re some kind of idiot perv. She held out a delicate hoof, it had a natural shine but not to the point of being polished. You tentatively reach out to shake her hoof. Damn she has a strong grip! She releases your hoof and tilts her head to the side. “You’re a strange one aren’t you? Most ponies at least say hello when they meet their new roommate.” She says. Her voice was light and had a sort of southern accent. Not as heavy as you cousin Apple Jack, but it was still there.
You shake yourself mentally and reply, “Sorry, I was just really impressed by your entrance.” You say. She laughs. Faust, she had a great laugh. She wasn’t even self-concious about laughing. Whenever you made most mares laugh, they looked around to see if anyone noticed them snort. She snorted without a care in the world. It was kinda cute. You had a feeling she wasn’t going to be like most mares.
“Thanks. Names Drawn Sword, but most people just call me Draw.” She said with that voice of hers. Somewhere inside your head you slapped yourself. You had to stop thinking like this if you were going to live with her! Otherwise you would be melted to a pile of honey by the end of the week.
“Name’s Apple Slice.” You say. You flick a piece of green hair out of your eyes. She looks at you expectantly. You pull your head back and look around. She starts laughing again.
“Are ya gonna show me around or what?” she asked, still grinning that Mona Lisa smile. You nearly trip over yourself trying to get to the door. You stop and turn around, almost crashing into the mare. You avoid collision only because she rose into the air in surprise.
“Don’t you have any luggage?” you ask.
“
Uh just these.” She replies, shaking her hips slightly to indicate her saddle bags. They were rugged black leather with a patch of her cutie mark in the corner.
“What does you cutie mark mean?” you blurt out. She laughs a bit. “You know, I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. I’m pretty sure it means two things.” Two talents? That was almost unheard of! “The pencil could be how I got my cutie mark though. I threw a pencil at a colt for making fun of my best friend in the second grade. I always think it means protecting. I don’t know from what though.” She said She threw a pencil at a guy? You had a feeling she was your kind of roommate. She laughed at the expression on your face, so you just turned around and proceeded to give her the grand tour.
“…this is your room, and over here is the adjoining bath. So you can unpack if you want…” You trail off as she chucks her saddle bags onto the couch.
“Done!” she says happily. “Now to celebrate!” she say, pumping her hoof in the air.
“Uh celebrate?” you ask, dumbfounded. You hadn’t met someone this energetic sense last family reunion when you met the new “honorary Apple”, Pinkie Pie. Hadn’t she just flown miles to get here? Isn’t she at least hungry?
She just laughs. “Of course hay-brain. We gotta celebrate!”
“
Celebrate what?” you ask, still confused.
“Our new friendship of course!” Drawn sword grabs your white hoof in her purple one and drags you out the door.
“Uhh…Draw?” you ask tentatively, already on the porch. She turns to face you and tilts her head to the side again. “How are we gonna get where we’re goin’?” She laughed and hoisted you up on her back. Damn was she strong!
“Tonight Apps,” Apps? “We fly!” she roared.
She took off like a jet into the night sky. All you could do was yell and try not to wet yourself right there on her back. She whooted and laughed at you screams of terror. She turned to face you, an amused grin playing across her muzzle. “Apps?”, she asked.
“What?” you asked, breathless and afraid.
“
Look down.” she said.
You gasped at the sight below you. Blurs of color swirled beautifully together. Did pegasi see this everyday? You had a feeling that you two were going to have a great time together.
